Glutey's Gurston Gander

By about 4-00 pm on Friday afternoon the decision to go for a 2 day event in July (because of better weather) seemed a little silly. After over 3 hrs to do 120 miles to get to Gurston we arrived to be greated by insecent rain. Fortunately we had a small window of dry to allow the tents to be put up without being soaked. Almost as soon as we had finished, the rain returned for another session. A second dry period allowed Keith the Teeth to assist with the beeding of my new rear calipers afte

Tel's Tales Blyton July 2019

Blyton weekend 13th/14thJuly 2019   As usual the trackday on Friday was well attended and most people were very happy with their track time and the open pit lane as well as the tuition package offered by Alan and Nick Mugglestone of Triple M Motorsport. Mick Dent was out practicing but his car suffered brake binding , a failed bottom rose joint on his ARB and the threaded end of his flatshifter sheread off. Good use was made of the phone so that a die was obtained to rethread the gears

Tel's Tales Harewood 2019

Harewood 6th& 7thJuly 2019   Once a year the speed series circus visits God’s own county to tackle the longest hillclimb in the country at Harewood. I have to report that the weather was fantastic on both days with both sun and warm weather despite a few threatening clouds so our decision to move the event to July rather than September seemed to pay off. The only downside is that due to its popularity there is always a big entry and we only achieved 2 practice and 2 timed runs on b

June 2019

June 2nd, 2019 Spend: £18.45   Too hot this weekend to do anything on the car, but did manage to spend 5 minutes replacing the coolant sensor in the thermostat housing that is connected to the ECU.   June 6th, 2019 Spend: £174.00   Ever since I had been messing with the suspension, I had this profound knocking, mostly audible at low speed.  Could not figure out what it was, so handed the car over to NMS and left them to sort the geometry and eliminate the

May 2019

May 4th, 2019 Spend: £78.00   My ECU had arrived back from Ian at Oddified and of course I could not wait to fit it.  Just in time for Stoneleigh!  My joy was however short lived as when I started the car, the engine would not settle in an idle, and kept trying to stall again. 😢     But as Ian had told me that he was going to be at Stoneleigh as well, armed with laptop and lead...  If I could get the car to him and find him, he could tweak it.

Blyton 18th & 19th May 2019

Blyton 18th& 19thMay 2019   Well after a slow start to the season with low numbers of drivers this event proved very popular with 9 Westfields and 4 Class J2 single eaters taking part. In addition to the Westfield class competition there were good class battles on the day for both road going and modified cars mainly running on slicks. Del and Gary were back out with the upgraded Dick Spanner supercharged Honda machine which now has even more power and is off the scale. My brother S

April 2019

April 1st, 2019 Spend: £62.00   And we're off for the new season!  New Pipercross filter arrived, so installed that and then put the car on the charger so I can drive it a little later when I finish work.     April 14th, 2019 Spend: £0.00   Went for some coffee at Caffeine and Machine in Ettington.  Nice place!     April 15th, 2019 Spend: £30.00     MOT time!  Great service at Nene Auto Repairs as u

A Seven Tour (To Scotland!)

Well, after a few beers in the pub at the start of April, it was decided that we should start scratching our itch to take the Westfields further a field than a weekend blat around the lake district. Date - 17th April and return sometime after the bank holiday weekend.  @Bigchris092: 91 Westfield Seiw // 1660 Crossflow // Bike Carbs @Brad Stone: 06 Westfield Sei // 2.1 Ford Pinto // Weber 45s Joe Ashworth: Passenger &

It's been a day of dodging showers but my son and I wrestled the crossflow's sump off. Annoyingly the dust sheild between the engine and bellhousing was one piece so a little cutting was required to get the lower portion off. It'll be fine of course. The oil pick-up pipe got snagged on one of the baffles but a little wrestling and it soon came off. Tomorrow I'll clean it, screw it down to a stable surface and cut the bottom off! Full details and pictures as we go. Here's the car at the mome

Just remembered, I own a Westfield!

It's true! After several dormant years of ignoring the car as I walked past each day, a furious amount of activity and a fist full of cash waved in the right direction has seen my car turn a wheel for the first time in 20 years. Having gotten fed up with a non-running car it came to the point where I sought help. The ever helpful chaps at Car Builder Solutions recommended Aeon Sportscars over in Marden, just a short blast away from me. Having explained my woes and citing that a car with an MOT w

March 2019

March 2nd, 2019 Spend: £98.33   If you need to vent frustration, I can recommend replacing wheel studs...  hammering those in allows a lot of venting        But in they went, and so did the half shafts.  Had also ordered new Pagid brake drums from Euro Car Parts (9" drums for a 1978 RS2000) and they fitted nicely. And finally the new wheels      They still stick out a little beyond the arch, but I will decide on any action after I've driven

February 2019

February 21st, 2019 Spend: £0.00   The sun is out and the urge to go out in the Westfield again is growing.  Time to start cracking! Agreed to borrow @Marto303's sliding hammer so that I could remove the half shafts.  What a difference the right tool makes to a job .  They were out in 5 minutes, although I could not remove the OS without also removing the brake drum back plate.  And that means replacing the brake fluid as I've had to disconnect the lines.  Oh well, just anoth

I don't want to think about the total cost but it will be worth it....   Spent so far this month... Far too much again in March and its not over yet …….. Well March is turning out to be a bit of a nightmare... Discovered the slight oil leak on the axle was from the mounts welded to the axle (keep it in place and prevent torque t

November 2018

November 2nd, 2018 Spend: £0.00   Oooh, it's fresh today...     November 29th, 2018 Spend: £0.00   Realistically, I'm not seeing the weather being nice enough to drive the car to work and back without getting p*ssed on, so I SORNed it today.  I need to get the half-shafts machined so my new wheels fit, and I need to take the petrol tank out to re-fit the pump so it reads on the gauge again.  Plenty to do this winter!       La

Anglesey weekend

So the time had come for my first trip to Anglesey, It was going to be either brilliant weather or freezing so earlier in the year asked a few fellow competitors if they would like to share a cottage. In the end it was just myself with wife Michelle and baby Olivia with @Howard (the champion) Gaskin and his son Alex. we arrived at the cottage late afternoon and eptied all the thigs you end up carting around when travelling with a wife baby and dog and i headed up to the track. I was plesant

Tel's Tales Ty Croes Oct 2018

Ty Croes 6th/7th Oct 2018 Well the was the long awaited finale to the 2018 season. Most of the year had seen John Loudon and myself as leaders in the overall championship and Simon Waterfall pushing for at least Novice championship honours in the ex Kev Bamber car. After celebrating our 50thwedding anniversary Margaret and I booked  a one week cruise to the Greek Islands and I would be back just in time for ANGLESEY. Whilst I was away John Loudon and Howard (I am sneaking up on you)  Gaskin

Tel's Tales Harewood Sept 2018

Tel’s tales – Harewood weekend 15thand 16thSept 2018 This weekend saw the speed series visiting god’;s own county of Yorkshire and sample the local weather which once again was windy and at times wet as well as a little chilly. It’s the only hillclimb Steve  and I do as its only 30 mins away and on  the doorstep. For those that have not driven it Harewood is the longest hillclimb in the country and notoriously difficult to get a good time as there are several places to get the corner wrong

Tel's Tales Curborough, Aintree and 3 Sisters, Aug 2018

Tel’s `Tales CURBOROUGH FIG 8 , AINTREE AND 3 SISTERS 2 LAPPER   So here is a roundup of the last 3 events I attended   Curborough Fig 8 There were 7 Westfields competing at the popular but very slow 2 lap event and we has=d 2 practice and 2 timed runs. It was good to see Howard Gaskin back out and he had installed another gearbox and hydraulic clutch release in a short space of time since it failed at his last event. In P1 I suddenly experienced an intermittent mi

August 2018

August 20th, 2018 Spend: £511.02   An early birthday present!  I desperately needed new tyres and as I was also considering going to a smaller wheel size or having the wheels refurbished into a different colour, I weight up the options and costs for each permutation.  New wheels won!     They are John Brown Wheels Smoothie's in 5.5J 13" for the front and 7J 13" for the back.  They fitted them with Nankang NS-2R tyres in 185/60R13.     I've

2018 Champion (and a Caterham Sandwich....:) With Vids

Like a kid counting down to Christmas, this race meeting could not come round quick enough. I had been over thinking the championship and really trying to get my fitness up, I just wanted to get out there and was chomping at the bit!   This was the penultimate meeting of 2018 with the Welsh Sport and Saloon Car Championship.   I had to book a different hotel to the one I usually get and although an ok place, it did smell damp in the room and my mate again, snored like a troop

Blyton weekend 11th/12th August 2018

Blyton Sat/Sun 11th/12thAug 2018 On Thursday I was in shorts and T shirt as I got my car ready for the weekend run by Longton and District Motor Club who had a very small entry but the event still went ahead. I had spent 2 weeks trying to track down an intermittent fault which was causing a misfire or fuel starvation. I spent hours remaking connections on the wiring loom, changing the fuel pump, all relays, plugs , coil sticks and all sensors as well as checking earths for ECU and Power Com
