Half day = Half Doors !

Bit of a hectic last weeks with work, so Friday was work form home day, and slightly early finish Mainly timed to coincide with the arrival of my latest Soft Bits for Sevens order Got my drill, poppers and rivets ready and spent about an hour fitting the first door, the 2nd much quicker as you get the hang of it. I fitted the doors where I though they looked good, not sure if the is a correct height or angle etc. Anyway, I think they go with the half hood quite nicely.

Too Busy to Play

Not much to update, Big work project has kept me busy evenings and weekends, but I did find a little time to internet shop. Then before heading off to Milton Keynes ready for an early start Monday, got these wind deflectors fitted. Need another bend adding at the top to clear the half hood cleanly, hopefully have time to do that next weekend. Hot or Not ?

Thought I'd check over the cooling side of the car, as the gauge was always showing it as running hot, even without any physical symptoms. And I've never heard the electric fan running. Ordered a few bits, new thermostat, new fan switch, and a gasket or 2 Got round to looking today. Half a hood is still a hood

Took a punt on a half hood on Ebay just before I went away for a weeks hols. Spoke to the seller, and from his description, the roll bar etc was the same on how written off car as my bar, so there was a decent chance of it fitting OK, he was offering collection only, and down in Kent, so I managed to persuade him to wrap it up and I'd send a courier in. Catch Can Tme

Was pretty much finished messing for the day, and thought I'd just take a look at my heavy breathing catch can issue. I'd been collecting bit to have a go at it. This is what I removed The large  tank ? was bolted to the motor mount, well with 1 bolt anyway, the other lost ! The smaller tank was bolted to the inlet manifold in a heath robinson kind of fashion And a lot of home made plumbing was evident. Anyway I just ripped it all out.   I fitted a B

Let the modifications begin

So for me, tinkering and messing with cars is a lot of the fun, and simple cosmetic changes, make the car feel a bit more mine. Now, I know it's a Westfield and not a Lotus 7, but I like car because of it's roots. So it's sunny if a little cool, so off with the cover and photo op Check it over, and go for a startup, I'd share the video but it's a little embarrassing, been a few years since I started a car on carbs, with no choke. Ebay and the Distance Calculation

After a few false starts, including one Westy described as Mint and a perfect driver, an MOT check revealed it hadn't been tested since 1999 and on questioning the seller further, he agreed it needed MOT'ing and they would repair any failures, he couldn't actually tell me what number of miles he had done in it to declare it a perfect driver.   Next, and after a few more false starts, I saw this Westy, asked lots of questions and got back sensible replies, spoke to the seller a few time

Why a Westy ?

So, I had a Porsche Boxster, and it's the longest I've kept a car, just over 3 years. The problem with them is value for money, they were expensive new, and that cost doesn't disappear as they become affordable to buy.  Now I did all my own brakes and service jobs, but anything that involved getting near the mid engine, meant a big bill, so the novelty was wearing off. So this was my ‘home’ race really. I live about 5 miles from Castle Combe and I really wanted to race here as it’s the only race in the calendar that all my friends and family can conveniently attend. Aug 2017 - Carbon NV aeroscreen

One thing I'd never really liked on my car was the original aeroscreen, did not look integrated at all so decided to order and fit a Carbon NV aeroscreen. Liaised with Mark and agreed on a V pattern with the weave, arrived on Tuesday and the quality is superb. Bonded the four fixing bolts supplied by Mark with Vudu-Glu (highly recommended) to utilise the same holes as on the old screen. Very happy with the new look and hopefully the expense has now stopped - £1500 on upgrades sinc

First Racing Incident...Ok, Crash (Now with video)

Regrettably, I have to write that I had my first racing incident at Pembrey on Sunday. The cars looking decidedly second hand at the moment as the rear offside wheel was literally hanging off. The upright had sheared in two places and will need to be repaired. I also sheared the brake line off the top of the calliper and the rear arch is completely mashed.    The race weekend started well as I finally found a hotel that’s welcoming, comfortable, with good food and not silly money. July 2017 - new seats

Few more jobs ticked off the list at the weekend New seats arrived from Intatrim (custom designed to my spec), as did the new FIA approved Scroth harnesses.  As the harnesses came with all new fixing bolts and eyelets I obviously wanted these fitted - problem number one the left hand side passenger eyelet cannot be removed without removing the rollbar. Rather than seeing this as a problem I took it as an opportunity to remove it, clean it, paint it and tidy up all the fixing bolts which

Tel’s Tales Blyton July  weekend 2017   Well as I look back at the Friday trackday (on two track layouts) plus Saturday and Sunday sprints, it seems that absolutely everyone had a fantastic weekend of motorsport, sun, bbq, gluten free meal deal, beer, buying and selling T Shirts for charity as well as support from families and club members. Update for recent activity

A few more jobs ticked off the to do list.   Oil and filter change - after speaking to a fair few people including Technical support at Millers Oils I plumped for Millers Nanaodrive CFS 10w60 NT+ - not exactly cheap at £17 per litre but you can't put a price on looking after your engine. After identifying the filter as being from a Sierra Cosworth a quick trip to ECP got me 5 of them, they were on offer and as I intend oil changes twice per year it makes sense to have a stock of them

Pembrey Weekend 2017

Tel’s Tales Pembrey June weekend 2017   After a 7 hours 297mile drive I arrived at about 1845hrs and was pleased to see my Westfield mates had adopted the best paddock position and saved a place for my motorhome and trailer. I thought I would break out the beer but was told I could sign on and be scrutineered straight away so that was a big plus meaning a relaxing Sat morning start.
