More CAD and more parts...

Not loads to report this time, but have made some bits of progress. Done a bit more chassis 'design' (loose term - I'm pretty much just adding triangles everywhere I can and getting them to terminate at the same locations where possible!) and chucked it through the weight calculator on the software - coming out around 78kg at the moment, so should be under 100kg for chassis, wishbones and dampers which is reasonable I think. Not light, but should be stiff and durable. From here I think the whol

Early stages - CAD & accumulating parts...

Having sold my Fisher Fury (which gave me the bug for light cars with bike engines), I decided to take on a new project. This was something I have wanted to do for a while, and having done most of these jobs in isolation thought it was time to tackle them all in one project... building a car from scratch. The first stages revolved around a lot of thinking and some mocking up of a layout - see below. Once I confirmed everything would fit, it was time to nail down the suspension design. Quite

Sport E Sprinting - Plan B

Back in July 2015 my Sport E electric Westfield was very badly damage due to a 'racing incident' at the Curborough sprint circuit. The car rolled three times and in the process ripped off or bent all four corners of the car. None of the wishbones, uprights or wheels escaped undamaged. In addition all the bodywork was broken in some way. On the face of it this was a total loss situation. However, amazingly all the electrical systems, motor and battery remained undamaged and in full working order.

Where did the last year go? Back on track.

Hello, It's been nearly a year since my last post and indeed since I last tinkered with my Westfield. Life got in the way in a number of ways and I had to focus my attention elsewhere. Now though, my lovely car is safely relocated and visible through the window down in the depths of Kent. With easy and level access all around hopefully I can crack on and get it on the road soon. If I can remember where I'd got to then I'll let you all follow along through this blog. Thank goodness you're al

Tel's Tales Issue 058 -Anglesey October 2015

TEL's TALE's 057/2015 Ty Croes Oct Weekend: 2015 This was the weekend showdown when everyone wanted to improve or consolidate their position in the various categories and championships with the biggest battle between John Hoyle and Adrian Clinton Watkins (ACW) for the overall championship position. John Loudon and myself were trying hard to stay near the top and Tim Nunn also wanted more points. The Novice championship was also up for grabs. The event was run by the Longton and District

September 2015

September 6th, 2015 Spend: £25.00   Julie kindly organised a (very) small group buy on a stainless steel laser cut Westfield badge and today I fitted mine.     September 13th, 2015 Spend: £0.00   Another weekend spend to investigate why the DRLs switch off with the engine running. Have taken the brave pill and partly rewired everything so that I can access the fuses easier when the scuttle is on. Also rewired the indicator/hazard circuit, but th

Tel's Tales Issue 057 -Ty Croes Anglesey September 2015

TEL's TALE's 057/2015 Ty Croes Sept : 2015 A big Westfield presence was to make this a great weekend for most but not everyone! Many had long journeys and fought their way through the Friday traffic and Pete Goulding and his son Jack had another epic 8hr trip which they were thinking was too far and too long. Lee Smith had pulled out as his engine failed close to the weekend. As most people know Adrian Clinton Watkins made a monumental effort to get his (well Barry Slingsby's car actuall

Headlights

I have 1995 Westfield with the traditional halogen headlights and I would like to upgrade to something brighter/whiter, ideally both. Does anyone have any suggestions for brands, suppliers. Prefer the smaller headlights mine are approx. 140mm diameter (guessing from memory).

Passenger turbulence

Hi, I am soon to be a first time owner of a Westfield and have just joined WSCC. The car I am purchasing has vertical pespex wind deflectors, hinged from the windscreen. No side panels in the 'door' location. No turbulence at the driver side, but turbulence very uncomfortable for the passenger, seems to be a featue of Westfields and completely mystified as to why this should be, but would like advice on how to resolve. If effective I would rather address by installing a wind deflector in the r

August 2015

August 1st, 2015 Spend: £9.03     Fabricated a muselet which should hopefully prevent the filler cap from popping off again.   August 2nd, 2015 Spend: £1.99   Continued with fitting the DRLs and after testing it over and over again put the dash back in (had it off as much as I could without removing steering wheel) and tightened the scuttle back discovered that the DRLs would go off as soon as I started the engine... Grrr! Too late in the day to

Tel's Tales Issue 056 -Curborough Fig 8 August 2015

TEL's TALE's 056/2015 Curborough Figure of 8 : 2015 A big break for several competitors since Blyton saw a split of events betweeen the Loton Park hillclimb weekend (which seemed a little expensive to me) and Curborough. Clearly I chose Curborough having enjoyed the new layout last year. There were 8 Westfield's as Adrian Clinton Watkins had withdrawn and was going to Loton Park. An early start for me and Steve as usual saw us arrive bang on 0730hrs for me to find that some pea brained C

July 2015

July 4th, 2015 Spend: £59.00   Saw these lights a while back, but could not find them anywhere for sale other than Australia. Luck would have it that one of my friends has moved there and happened to have his dad over for holidays. Had them delivered to his place and then smuggled back to the UK in his dads suitcase.     They are slightly to big for the arches, so some careful cutting/sanding with a Dremel saw them fit as well as they can.

On A Deadline

Back from two weeks in Crete, so not that much has been happening. Westy is now booked in for it's vinyl wrap week of the 10th August, so there's a list of things to do to prep her. Everything is off at the front (makes it easier for the vinyl technician......apparently). And the little perforations at the back are beginning to vanish, although getting the glass matting up behind the holes was just a bundle of laughs! Next post will be when it's all back together!

Tel's Tales Issue 055 -Blyton July 2015

Tel's Tales 055 – 2015 Season- Blyton 11th and 12th July 2015 This was the place to be at our own Westfield Weekend. First let me make an apology! There was so much happening over the weekend and we were all split up in different positions that I cannot possibly comment on everyone's problems but just the ones I became aware of. My weekend of motorsport started when I arrived on Friday morning to help run the Sprint School with Paul Morcom and Adam Read. The Friday trackday was used by some to

Stephen's Story

Curborough July 5th 2015 Stephen’s story Arrived at the track at 7.20am to find most of the Westfields already there and ready for signing on and scrutineering. Unfortunately the driver’s briefing wasn’t until 8.50 but we managed to fill the time! The briefing was exceedingly brief for the 99% who had driven the track before and rather more detailed for the few who hadn’t. P1 arrived to find that Graham Frankland had forgotten to put his timing strut on! Howard Gaskin went fastest on 60.50

June 2015

June 4th, 2015 Spend: £3.17   First the fuse had blown on the starter button (my own design, so my own fault), then for further humiliation I had to pay £3.17 for an assortment of replacement fuses and even then the car would just about start again. Later at home discarded the fuse on the starter and it shows all the signs of a starter that is on the way out.   June 7th, 2015 Spend: £0   Put the car on stands to have a good look at the starter in case I ne

sally's scribbles

Sally’s scribbles (non technical): Having risen bright and early (4.45am) Stephen and I arrived at Aintree at 7.25. John Loudon and Garry Bunn were already there and Stephen signed on getting back in time to get the car ready for scrutineering. Lee Smith and John Williams were further down the paddock together. The loos were locked and there were only four portaloos by the office. Fortunately the loos opened around 9am. The weather was brilliant. Fabulous sunshine all day and just a head wind

Pre-lit Westy Dismantle Blog!

There's so many build blogs I thought I'd go the other way....... Seriously though, having a lot of fun and finding my way around the car a lot better, shame it's the best weather this year! Everything is off at the front and being prepared for new paint and the wheels are away for powder coating a new colour. Bespoke mirror finish stainless steel windscreen supports being fabricated to replace the horrible home made aluminium ones, and some carbon and carbon effect goodies are in the post or

Set off on the wrong foot ....

Slow going today, realised that I have set off on the wrong foot with my build (following a printed manual i got when i collected my kit from Ian which I assume is now out of date) suggests to fit all the panels first. Here is the culprit ......... I only realised this today at work when i stumbled across a downloaded .pdf of the S2000 specific manual which I forgot I had acquired from someone's dropbox well before i ordered my kit . I don't think it's a major problem (fingers crossed), ju

More Panel Work....

Got a little it more panel work done today.. Rivetted up the passenger side tunnel panel Also got the rear bulkhead panel drilled off and fitted. I had to omit a couple of the awkward holes located in tight corners as I don't have a 90 degree head for the drill in the garage at home - they will live to see another day !! (Not sure my arms and shoulders could take any more drilling and rivet pulling today anyhoo !!!!) Began the hunt for the engine today, also chased up the next set of par

And so it begins .......

Greetings!! Today is a good day, it's the day I finally get my finger out and start work on my Mega S2000 build! The starter kit has been sat in my garage since 10th April. I have been waiting for some shortages which finally arrived and I didn't want to start it until I had all the bits. Progress was pretty slow and all i achieved was drilling off the tunnel side panels and fitting one of them. I hope to keep momentum going and I will endeavour to keep this blog current with the build
