And so it begins .......

Greetings!! Today is a good day, it's the day I finally get my finger out and start work on my Mega S2000 build! The starter kit has been sat in my garage since 10th April. I have been waiting for some shortages which finally arrived and I didn't want to start it until I had all the bits. Progress was pretty slow and all i achieved was drilling off the tunnel side panels and fitting one of them. I hope to keep momentum going and I will endeavour to keep this blog current with the build

Upgraditus.......me?.........never!

How wrong could I have been! There's bits off the car, and bits to come off. My local engineering company are helping out with mods to the rocker cover, to facilitate the new breather system. I've got an oil catch tank and bits from Carbon Mods on their way, not to mention some bodywork to sort out when the spare wheel bracket and carrier come off. Might even change the colour! I've made a list of jobs and a list of what I need. I have this week before I'm off to Crete and then three and a

1987 Pre-lit 7SE

It's just over two months since I took delivery of my 1987 crossflow powered Pre-lit Westfield and so far, all I have really done, is drive it. The only upgrade completed to date was to me, by way of a graphic I produced of the car to go on my "Pre-lit Westy" T shirts. The car.......... .........and the T shirt Having said that, there are a few bits coming off this weekend and being left with my friendly engineering company and hopefully, when I get back from Crete next month, I will hav

Tel's Tales Issue 054 -Anglesey June 2015

Tel's Tales 054– 2015 Season- Anglesey 13th and 14th May 2015 The build up to this June event run by MAC and Chester MC started to cast some doubts when the finals saw that we had different numbers on both days (never seen that in my 15 plus years of competing), there was to be no cafe/restaurant open and maybe no catering at all! Plus there are no awards at the event (sent to winners at the end of the season). So I packed burgers, sausages, stove, beer, bbq, frying pan etc as I prefer to stay in t

Tel's Tales Issue 051 -Barbon June 2015

Barbon Hill Climb 13/06/2015 Report by Howard Gaskin Barbon is a new event to the Speed Series calendar although it has been around since 1950 and hosts a round of the British Hillclimb Championship each year. It’s the shortest hillclimb in the UK at 890 yards but nevertheless quite fast and furious, akin to Shelsley or Gurston. I arrived Friday evening to find Mark Schlanker already there, and perhaps one other small group. A pleasant evening was spent eating, chatting, walking the

St Goueno Blog

So after months of anticipation Wednesday 27th May had finally arrived and time for us ( Michelle & I ) to set off on our trip to the St Goueno Hill Climb. We set off for our ferry from Portsmouth to St Marlo at 2.00pm, after an easy run down the A34 we’d soon joined the queue at the ferry terminal and could see ahead another member of Team WSCC Graham ( Windy ) Millar. Once checked in the three of us headed for the terminal bar to get in the spirit of the weekend while we waited to be loa

Tel's Tales Issue 050 -Pembrey May 2015

Tel's Tales 050– 2015 Season- Pembrey 30th and 31th May 2015 The Pembrey weekend which has been so popular in the past had only 8 Westfields plus Matt Hillam making the long trip to south Wales. Three members of the Yorkshire Mafia team (John, Steve and myself) fought our way down the A1, M42,M5,M50,M4 and took about 7hours to do the 295 miles in my case. We had the usual trackwalk and met up with the gang including John Loudon who appeared to be developing Man Flu. The paddock looked a bit emp

May 2015

May 3rd, 2015 Sold: £75.50   The annual kit car show at Stoneleigh! Packed the car with stuff that I no longer have a use for and after some creative use of straps it is surprising the amount of stuff you can take with you     But, the great English weather being what it is, changed for the worst and although we've had lovely weather in the weeks leading to it, the day starts off with heavy rain     It dried up on the way in and by the t

Tel's Tales Issue 049 -Snetterton May 2015

Tel's Tales 049– 2015 Season- Snetterton 16th and 17th May 2015 This venue is quite a long haul for most people but the one and threequarters laps on a wide and technical tracks run by Borough 19 is a great attraction and the trip is now better following completion of the A11 upgrade. There were 13 of us there including Matt Hillam and Paul Morcom in the J classes and it was good to see John Loudon back out with his rebuilt engine. The weather forecast was promising but as we left the bar on Fr

Tel's Tales Issue 048 -Harewood May 2015

Tel's Tales 047– 2015 Season- Harewood Sat & Sun May 9th and 10th 2015 This is the local event for me (25 mins drive) and set in God's own county so I was looking forward to the annual visit. I was very happy as Steve and I had to rebuilt Steve's and my own car in 4 days since the contacts we made with the Armco at Hethel. I have to thank Dennis Silman who runs Siltech racing for providing complete new Wishbones and fitting at record speed and its great quality. Alas the heavens had opened

Tel's Tales Issue 047 -Hethel May 2015

Tel's Tales 047– 2015 Season- Hethel Sunday 3rd May 2015 For me and Steve travelling south for 4 hrs was fairly easy despite the slow roads around Kings Lynn and East Anglia. We had a good meal and a few pints talking with Duncan Cowper ( Dax Rush Turbo fame) and his mate before getting to sleep I the trailer. Woke about 0400hrs with the rain lashing it down bang on forecast. As it turned out WET WET WET (not the pop group that formed in 1982) turned out to be the theme for the event. The 5 Wes

April 2015

April 8th, 2015 Spend: £0     The day of the dreaded MOT. I say dreaded, because it is the first one in my ownership, and who knows what kind of relationship the previous owner had with his MOT guy. Thankfully it passed, with some recommendations on things that should really be sorted out when I get the chance:   - Leaking gearbox (small drop, but still) - OSR axle leaking grease (needs new halfshafts/seals) - Front braided brake lines chaffing on th

Lego Sport Turbo seats and Zetec engine install :-)

Changed the seats for the expensive sport turbo option not as harsh on the buttocks as the old GRP seats and fitted: The last major job is the engine replacement, here is the new Zetec in bits: Zetec partial build: V8 out Ive had to remove seats, windscreen and bonnet, then turn car upside down to fit engine block and connect it to drive shaft, engine position same as the old V8 so no changes required to gearbox ...exhaust still needs a bit of tweaking though..

Tel's Tales Issue 046 -Blyton 2 Lapper 2015

Tel's Tales 046– 2015 Season- Blyton 2 Lapper 19th April 2015 So what would this new event be like? Everyone thought that 3 Sisters was cold but with an easterly wind today was every bit as cold and seemed to cut through your clothing reminding us that summer was not yet here! Steve was meeting me en route and despite me giving him instructions from the M18/M180/A15 etc he still nearly got lost. There were 12 Westfields taking part out of an entry of 30 cars and if the MDA club's Regs had been

Tel's Tales Issue 045 -3 Sisters 2015

Tel's Tales 045– 2015 Season- 3 Sisters 12th April 2015 From being sunburnt and sweaty at Croft to being frozen silly at 3 Sisters was a shock to my delicate system and a few others as well. People were wearing gloves, jumpers and every layer of clothing they could lay their hands on. In a nutshell it was bitterly cold in the wind and most of us thought that getting anywhere near the target times was going to be a joke. But, on a positive note the track was dry despite a bad weather forecast fo

Tel's Tales Issue 044 -Croft Easter 2015

Tel's Tales 044– 2015 Season- Croft 6th April 2015 Our prayer's (well hopes really) were answered as the day was dry and very felt hot at about 18deg C and I used 3 lots of suncream on my delicate facial features and still got a bit sunburned. There were 11 Speed Series competitors plus Nick Algar out in his new DJ Firehawk which very annoyingly had issues with the static and trackside noise levels so did not run competitively. We all had 2 Practice runs and hoped for the 3 timed runs as sugges

Tel's Tales Issue 043 - Rockingham 2015

Tel's Tales 043– 2015 Season- Rockingham 22nd March 2015 Well this was it, the start of the new 2015 season for 12 Westfield guys to clear the cobwebs and prove that their winter mods worked and their driving had not gone rusty over the winter period. It was clear that any New Year's Resolutions in terms of dieting and losing weight (rather than paying for more bhp!) had been long forgotten and last years overalls were still a skin tight fit for some. So there was 1 class A, 4 class B, 1 class
