February 2024

February 1st, 2024 Spend: £26.25   Using some 3D printed moulds (thanks to @Paul Aspden (MoFast) for releasing the STLs for his bonnet vents; they weren't a perfect fit, but it made designing these moulds a lot easier) I pressed my own bonnet vent meshes.            Have also given the meshes a quick once over with some paint as the original paint flaked off where it had bend the sharpest.     February 3rd, 2024 Spend: £0.00

January 2024

January 3rd, 2024 Spend: £16.60   Continuing with the side panel by bonding in the bonnet locating block       And then trial fitted it all when cured       January 14th, 2024 Spend: £48.00   Dreaded this moment a bit, but it's now time to fit some AeroCatches to replace the old bonnet locks.  Decided against the lower position which would have covered up the two holes left by the old lock, but would have also mean some

December 2023

December 16th, 2023 Spend: £0.00   Using the Enterprise Bold Italic font and Fusion 360, I created a copy of the Westfield badge that @Marcus Barlow - Show and Events Co-ordinator used to sell and printed it on my 3D printer (.STL attached).  Brass screw inserts sit on the back and then some thin aluminium was used to create tabs that hook into the back of the grille.     A few coats of primer followed by gold paint and lacquer makes it look convincingly metal

November 2023

November 4th, 2023 Spend: £5.00     Designed and 3D printed some tie wrap guides and bonded them in with P40.  This should hold the grille in place just nicely.         November 11th, 2023 Spend: £0.00       First layer of Isopon P38 applied and sanded       Last month: £  5341.94 This month: £     5.00             ----------+ Total:      £  5346.94

October 2023

October 1st, 2023 Spend: £0.00   Car is once again SORNed, it must be tinkering time...     October 18th, 2023 Sold: £50   Met up with @RickRack who bought my old 15" wheels.  Was great to catch up and am looking forward meeting his SEiGHT one day.     October 19th, 2023 Spend: £4.71   The nose cone on a SEiGHT is incredibly difficult to remove due to the cowling around the radiator, so to make life a little bit easier, I

May 2023

May 1st, 2023 Spend: £0.00     A lovely spring weather evening called for a spontaneous trip with my son and daughter.  Pulled over at Althorp estate and got few nice pictures.     May 11th, 2023 Spend: £270.00   After I replaced my front wishbones I knew I needed the wheel alignment checked and so I booked it in with Northampton Motorsport.  Was very surprised to learn that the car only weighs 680Kg.  I expected it to be a lot more given t

April 2023

April 8th, 2023 Spend: £514.07   A long time desire finally fulfilled.  13" Smoothies from John Brown Wheels.  5.5J for the front, 7J for the rear complete with Toyo R888Rs from Tyretek.       April 21st, 2023 Spend: £18.08   Finally gone all smoked lights by replacing the side repeaters by a smoked set from Performance Lights.         April 27th, 2023 Spend: £29.00     Arranged for a swap

March 2023

March 16th, 2023 Spend: £0.00   Continuing on the other side of the car with the spray on arch and arm protection        Took again multiple layers of black followed by a couple of layers of gloss FullDip to get good coverage       March 18th, 2023 Spend: £0.00        Sprayed the steering wheel boss black     March 22nd, 2023 Spend: £15.30   Installed new foam tape for the bonnet t

February 2023

February 4th, 2023 Spend: £10.00   So what to do with the gaping big hole left by moving the fuel filler?  Fill it up with a 3D printed blank and cover it with a V8 Westfield gel badge.       Big thanks to @Steve (sdh2903) who led the way with this and pointed me to someone who can create these gel badges in whatever colour/design you like.     February 5th, 2023 Spend: £0.00   I finally used the 3M Perfect It Gelcoat Medium Cuttin

January 2023

January 7th, 2023 Spend: £0.00        Having removed the rear arch protectors I need to fill the holes that are left behind and then I'm planning to use vinyl wrap to create new arch protectors, just like I did on my previous Westfield.  I'm using knifing putty to fill the holes and then sand it flat again using various grades of sanding paper.     Yes, it looks awful, but it's flat and the wrap will cover it all     January 15th, 2023

December 2022

December 4th, 2022 Spend: £108.56       On recommendation of Jody, I sourced an idle control valve / stepper motor which controls the idle by passing air into the plenum chamber upon startup but because my rocker covers where installed in such a way that the hose connecting to it would have to run the long way round, I went down the rabbit hole of swapping the rocker covers around.  This meant cleaning them, installing new gaskets, renewing filter, o-rings, plugs, leads,

November 2022

November 4th, 2022 Spend: £712.20   Collected the car from Jody and started to disassemble it again so I can give the new wishbones I kindly got from @Nemesis, and exhaust shields a lick of paint to further darken the car's appearance.         November 12th, 2022 Spend: £0.00        Multiple coats later...     November 16th, 2022 Spend: £221.51   With the wishbones finished, time to focus on fitting th

October 2022

October 1st, 2022 Spend: £35.90   Slowly going dark mode.         October 5th, 2022 Spend: £7.00       When I fitted the seats I used some black PVC edging, but this kept on coming off, so this time I've used some edging that has better grip.  Also went round the whole seat instead of just the sides.     October 14th, 2022 Spend: £0.00     An empty garage for a few weeks as Jody at J A Kit a

June 2022

June 18th, 2022 Spend: £54.04   For a while I was planning to replace my rear lights with something homebrew as I just can not find a nice aftermarket set that I like as much as I did on my previous Westfield.  Having already replaced my fog and reverse lights with those from the LED AutoLamps 82 Series, I thought maybe I should do the same for the indicators and stop/tail lights...?   The old units are quite wide, and these round lights are slightly taller than the spac

April 2022

April 9th, 2022 Spend £0.00   Having had @Nemesis SEiGHT in my garage for the past 2 months for an entire rewire job, I welcomed Barney back today.     April 17th, 2022 Spend: £0.00   After a lovely easter breakfast with the family, set off with Q-jr to meet up with Paul to drop off some tools that he'd forgotten to take home.  About a mile in, the engine shut off and we had to coast to a stop in a quiet road.  When turning the ignition the usual 2s f

January 2022

January 9th, 2022 Spend: £101.19     New year, time for action.  Having had a tiny coolant leak for ages it was time to sort it out.  But how the heck do you get the nose cone off when the radiator is part of it?  Turns out it relatively easy.  Just undo the top 3 screws on the duct and the 3 bolts holding the cone itself in place.  Access to the top 2 bolts was a challenge, but with the help of @Nemesis quickly sorted.     The number of joins is in

October 2021

October 1st, 2021 Spend: £8.25     Last week discovered to my great horror an oil spill on my drive the size of Exxon Valdez left after a drive.  After inspection it turned out to be squeezing oil past the oil pressure sensor, but even after tightening it, it still came dripping out.  Got some Permatex 59214 High Temperature thread sealant and re-assembled it all today.  So far it seems to have done the trick, but I need to take it on a trip (any excuse) first to ensure

September 2021

September 8th, 2021 Spend: £0.00     Company update required us to be back at the office (since over a year!) and when the weather is good, it would be rude not to take the Westie.     September 11th, 2021 Spend: £69.53   Took advantage of the Westfield Stoneleigh discount and bought new wiper arms to go with the taller windscreen.  I needed new blades anway.  Didn't realise I'd only been given one wiper arm when I collected it, but @Westfi

July 2021

July 9th, 2021 Spend: £0.00   First MOT in my ownership.  Given the all clear for another year       July 24th, 2021 Spend: £5.88     Used the 3D printer again to fabricate a phone holder.  Already had a .stl for the iPhone 8, and then designed a new clip that just slides between dash and scuttle.  Then fitted a USB charger so I can take it for a longer journey without worrying the phone nav runs out 😄     July 29t

May 2021

May 3rd, 2021 Spend: £0.00   Been at it (nose cone and scuttle) with the DA polisher and some more Fine 3M Perfect-It gelcoat polish but it does really need a coarser cut.  Something to do during the winter       May 7th, 2021 Spend: £5.14        Received the pillars back from Westfield and took a punt at fitting.  Had to re-drill one pillar hole and the new pillars do not follow the scuttle as nice as the older version, but the

April 2021

April 1st, 2021 Spend: £7.97   Back on the road again!  Quickly fitted some PH stickers and two press studs so I could use the doors again.  Then picked up my son from his work and took the scenic route there and back.         April 7th, 2021 Spend: £21.88   Seeing as the back end is now finished for the time being, I thought it was also a good time to fit the SEiGHT sticker @maurici made for me.       And added some stor

March 2021

March 4th, 2021 Spend: £566.00        Look what the parcel man delivered today!  The JK Composites seats I ordered a month ago; a standard N4246 for the driver side and a modified N3946 for the passenger side to fit in the reduced space that that side has.  Keith stretched the area for the hips to be as wide as possible within the dimensions I had passed to him.  A perfect fit!       March 6th, 2021 Spend: £0.00        I

February 2021

February 6th, 2021 Spend: £38.58   Using Cardboard Aided Design to get the size right of the side panels.  Thankfully they are symmetrical so I only had to do this once.     Then transferring this to the stitched fabric.       And then the moment supreme, does it fit?     It does!  After that, the tunnel top is easy peasy.       February 7th, 2021 Spend: £0.00   Cleaned the car a

January 2021

January 9th, 2021 Spend: £0.00   Looking at the results of my spray painting and tears are welling up.  It's just the wrong time of season for spray paint; unless you can do it inside in a warm room maybe.  Cutting my losses and ordered some black vinyl wrap last week instead.  It's too cold in the garage to do this, so am moving into the dining room this weekend     January 10th, 2021 Spend: £13.48   Wrapped the panels and am now waiting for a deliv
