June 2022

June 18th, 2022 Spend: £54.04   For a while I was planning to replace my rear lights with something homebrew as I just can not find a nice aftermarket set that I like as much as I did on my previous Westfield.  Having already replaced my fog and reverse lights with those from the LED AutoLamps 82 Series, I thought maybe I should do the same for the indicators and stop/tail lights...?   The old units are quite wide, and these round lights are slightly taller than the spac

April 2022

April 9th, 2022 Spend £0.00   Having had @Nemesis SEiGHT in my garage for the past 2 months for an entire rewire job, I welcomed Barney back today.     April 17th, 2022 Spend: £0.00   After a lovely easter breakfast with the family, set off with Q-jr to meet up with Paul to drop off some tools that he'd forgotten to take home.  About a mile in, the engine shut off and we had to coast to a stop in a quiet road.  When turning the ignition the usual 2s f

January 2022

January 9th, 2022 Spend: £101.19     New year, time for action.  Having had a tiny coolant leak for ages it was time to sort it out.  But how the heck do you get the nose cone off when the radiator is part of it?  Turns out it relatively easy.  Just undo the top 3 screws on the duct and the 3 bolts holding the cone itself in place.  Access to the top 2 bolts was a challenge, but with the help of @Nemesis quickly sorted.     The number of joins is in

October 2021

October 1st, 2021 Spend: £8.25     Last week discovered to my great horror an oil spill on my drive the size of Exxon Valdez left after a drive.  After inspection it turned out to be squeezing oil past the oil pressure sensor, but even after tightening it, it still came dripping out.  Got some Permatex 59214 High Temperature thread sealant and re-assembled it all today.  So far it seems to have done the trick, but I need to take it on a trip (any excuse) first to ensure

September 2021

September 8th, 2021 Spend: £0.00     Company update required us to be back at the office (since over a year!) and when the weather is good, it would be rude not to take the Westie.     September 11th, 2021 Spend: £69.53   Took advantage of the Westfield Stoneleigh discount and bought new wiper arms to go with the taller windscreen.  I needed new blades anway.  Didn't realise I'd only been given one wiper arm when I collected it, but @Westfi

July 2021

July 9th, 2021 Spend: £0.00   First MOT in my ownership.  Given the all clear for another year       July 24th, 2021 Spend: £5.88     Used the 3D printer again to fabricate a phone holder.  Already had a .stl for the iPhone 8, and then designed a new clip that just slides between dash and scuttle.  Then fitted a USB charger so I can take it for a longer journey without worrying the phone nav runs out 😄     July 29t

May 2021

May 3rd, 2021 Spend: £0.00   Been at it (nose cone and scuttle) with the DA polisher and some more Fine 3M Perfect-It gelcoat polish but it does really need a coarser cut.  Something to do during the winter       May 7th, 2021 Spend: £5.14        Received the pillars back from Westfield and took a punt at fitting.  Had to re-drill one pillar hole and the new pillars do not follow the scuttle as nice as the older version, but the

April 2021

April 1st, 2021 Spend: £7.97   Back on the road again!  Quickly fitted some PH stickers and two press studs so I could use the doors again.  Then picked up my son from his work and took the scenic route there and back.         April 7th, 2021 Spend: £21.88   Seeing as the back end is now finished for the time being, I thought it was also a good time to fit the SEiGHT sticker @maurici made for me.       And added some stor

March 2021

March 4th, 2021 Spend: £566.00        Look what the parcel man delivered today!  The JK Composites seats I ordered a month ago; a standard N4246 for the driver side and a modified N3946 for the passenger side to fit in the reduced space that that side has.  Keith stretched the area for the hips to be as wide as possible within the dimensions I had passed to him.  A perfect fit!       March 6th, 2021 Spend: £0.00        I

February 2021

February 6th, 2021 Spend: £38.58   Using Cardboard Aided Design to get the size right of the side panels.  Thankfully they are symmetrical so I only had to do this once.     Then transferring this to the stitched fabric.       And then the moment supreme, does it fit?     It does!  After that, the tunnel top is easy peasy.       February 7th, 2021 Spend: £0.00   Cleaned the car a

January 2021

January 9th, 2021 Spend: £0.00   Looking at the results of my spray painting and tears are welling up.  It's just the wrong time of season for spray paint; unless you can do it inside in a warm room maybe.  Cutting my losses and ordered some black vinyl wrap last week instead.  It's too cold in the garage to do this, so am moving into the dining room this weekend     January 10th, 2021 Spend: £13.48   Wrapped the panels and am now waiting for a deliv

December 2020

December 5th, 2020 Spend: £0.00   Using the cardboard templates, and having measured it over and over, I 3D printed a little template that will allow me to transfer the hole for the rear stays onto the composite aluminium panel I ordered for the boot lid.     Also threaded the brake light cable through the roll bar         December 12th, 2020 Spend: £0.00   Long day in the garage cutting the boot lid.  A week later than

November 2020

November 3rd, 2020 Spend: £0.00   Just doing some stock taking for winter.     The chrome has got to go.  The cosmetic roll bar has got to go.  The spare wheel has got to go.  The chunky rear lights have got to go.  The interior has got to go.  The windscreen and doors...  they may actually stay, although the chrome has got to go . And then there is of course the maintenance, so will be ordering all fluids and filters to replace.  Got to keep myself busy!

Meet Barney, the Mid-Life Crisis

November 3rd, 2020 Spend: £12,000   Whilst on holiday in France, with very little to do, I started to reflect on life and really missed having a V8 in it.  So a plan hatched; sell the Westfield, and buy a Seight!     I present to you: Barney   I'd spotted him on Ebay, but the auction disappeared before I sold my car.  On the off-chance it wasn't sold, I messaged the seller.  And as luck would have it, the original buyer had pulled out.  So I agreed t
