I know exactly what you mean. I spent ages painting bits of my engine whilst waiting for my chassis to arrive.

Had a couple of hours out in the sunshine working on the engine

First job was to paint the camshaft pulleys

Whilst I was waiting for the paint to go off enough for a second coat, I had a tricky task to undertake ???

When I got the engine, I noticed that one of the camcover bolts had been snapped off and the stud was left in the head. Time to try and get it out.

Firstly I took the camcover off, and put a centre punch in the stud.

Then I drilled a hole down into the stud approximately 5mm deep.

Then I cleaned up all the swarf.

Next was to insert a stud extractor tool, and out it came :)

Well pleased to get it out.

Next job was to etch prime the engine

The last job of the day was to get the angle grinder out, and cut the camcover

I'm going to cut my cam cover down. Why have you left the front bit on?

Gary, is there enough room to be able to remove the cam belt with the tab left on the front of the cover?

My brether hose at the moment runs from the engine, down the vertical chassis tube transversely along the chassis tube under the crank pulley and then back up the other side to the inlet of the throttle body. One think i'd looked to do this winter is replace that with a hard line over the top of the cam cover made from a short length of brake pipe.

If you don't want to run a closed breather then you can remove the PCV valve, plug the corresponding holes in the cam cover and inlet manifold, and then run the vent to an oil catch tank.

Good point - I am not sure Mark.

I will check it when re-assembling the engine.

I am going to leave finishing the camcover until one of the last jobs.

If it is in the way, the grinder will be out again

Done a bit more this afternoon.

First, I made up a couple of blanking plates for the inlet manifold for things that are not needed. Sealed with some Loctite copper sealant to maintain vacuum

Then I got the etch primer out again, and done the inlet manifold
