Looks good.

One observation re the  spring clips on the calipers - shouldn't they be the other way up so the bendy bits push down on the pads? They aren't doing much that way round.

Just checked both Haynes and Rod's and that's how they show them to be fitted.

So I think Gary has them right.

I think they are correct. They are only there to stop rattle apparently

I have now got the IVA flat protection bar.

Can anybody tell me how or where it bolts in?

You should be able to see the protection bar fitted in this picture

Some good progress today, and a bit of a milestone.

Firstly I pop riveted to cable tie clips into the chassis around the top of the engine bay before the engine goes in

Next, I fitted the IVA bar to the rear suspension

Then, I copper-slipped all of the front suspension bolts, and at the same time fitted the cycle wing brackets.

Photobucket

Then I fitted the brake lines to the calipers all round

Finally, I fitted the mazda wheels and dropped her onto the ground, so it feels like an achievement today, as I now have a rolling chassis  :D

Just curious, 'cause my build pre-dates the requirement for that metal bar jobbie. But why in one build does it seem to fit on above the line of the rear suspension bolts, with it's mounts facing down, and in the other it's below the line of the bolts, mounts facing up?  ???

I think I might have it on upside down

Er yes, I had my Mr Diplomacy head on  :p  :D , but was thinking the bar was going to be below the level of the tank    :suspect:

Easily done, and easily sorted at this stage.

Question for anyone that's done it recently, what's the score with IVA as far as having the rear suspension bolts with the nut end towards the tank? obviously providing the threaded part of the bolt protrudes no more than the acceptable minimum.

I only ask, because if it is allowable, it means you can take the rear upper suspension arms off without removing the tank first, (on a regular SEi at least, the Mazda may be different.

I needed a job to do one night in the week before the engine goes in  ;)

7. A Fuel Tank must not be fouled by moving parts of the vehicle, or mounted so that it is likely to be subject to abrasion by adjacent parts.

and

9. Fuel Tanks must be positioned so as not to be vunerable to damage from protruding parts or sharp edges in the event of a front or rear impact.
