Mark (smokey mow)
Thats a good fail Dom, and it sounds like you've had quite an eventful but fun day
Dommo
Yeah that's probably a bit too long. Short version: Went wrong. Fixed itself. Went wrong. Fixed it. IVA refinement required. Went wrong lots of times. Fixed it once. Now it's someone elses problem for a week. And on the plus side, I get to legally drive it with no number plates some more
the stoat
Congrats nothing to serious then :-)
Doug Dastardly
That's some day out! Sounds like it should be straightforward to get it passed next time though Although your tempermental reverse light and speedo could be a pain in the My windscreen covers wouldn't stay on either so I punched holes in them and ran small cable ties through the holes to hold them in place. The tester didn't like them and told me to sort it after the test, but let it go. I explained I'd be fitting side screens anyway. When I took the cable ties off the covers were reasonably stuck on, so this might be worth a go if you're stuck. Doug
KugaWestie
Not too bad all in all then Dommo, well done mate. I superglued my windscreen pillar covers on, they stayed on no problem.
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman
Yeah SPARING application of the Superglue for covers and edging works wonders for keeping it in place, yet still allows it to be removed for, er, servicing, later on
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman
Oops, forgot to add, bad luck for the fail, but that's not a bad work sheet to get you through the re-test. Just hope you can track your gremlins down before round two.
Dommo
I'm wondering how many pulses/revolution the mk2 speedo sender gives. It goes in the same place as the cable drive on the gearbox so would remove any problem of the distance between the current sender and whatever it's reading changing. Which might be what I have now, due to the sender working its way loose again.
Westie66
This was very like my fail, couple of fixable on the day faults and a couple that needed the car taking away. My re-test took all of ten minutes as they are only interested in looking at the fail points. I think the car I have now, a few months after the IVA is a much better one than the car that was tested. Once you get to drive it properly you get the chance to properly debug the build. You should walk the retest And then comes DVLA
Dommo
Whilst the weather remains so poor, delays due to fails and DVLA won't bother me!
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman
Yep, normal practice is to only re-test the fail points. However, if they suspect the corrective work on a fail point looks like it will affect an area that was previously passed, they will re-check that too. (Typical example would be turning a silencer to hide a sharp edge might see them rechecking the noise level in case you'd made it worse). Dommo
Retest is booked for the 27th July. It wasn't until a few hours after I booked it that I realised they didn't take any payment. I wonder if I'd just scraped into the free retest category? I'll phone up on Monday and check. I've had it confirmed by Frank (he of the turbo mx5 westfield in Belgium) that the mk2 speedo sender gives 4800 pulses per mile, so I'll order one of them. That should solve my speedo problem once and for all!
KugaWestie
Dom Did they say they would send you a confirmation letter for the appointment? If so, why not wait a week and see if it arrives, if it does, happy days then you must have got it for free. I would not ring them up and give them the chance to sting you for another £90 just yet. You have some time on your hands.....
Carpenter Chr7s
Dom They will carve you on the day. Same happens to me!
