Julie Hall - WSCC AO Representative Posted June 1, 2019 Author Posted June 1, 2019 Firstly, a special thank you to @syman84 for inviting us to Michelle's 40th birthday last night, it was a great party and the live band were fantastic. The last time we met Michelle's dad we were at The Strines, it was freezing and he was in a turquoise Robin Hood, about 4 years ago, so it was nice to catch up with him too. I only wanted to go 5 miles for some breakfast, how difficult can it be? read on. We met at Ashbourne for a quick gather together before heading North to Tissington (or not as the case may be). We had a spare moment so we did the panorama dance red cars ruled today, Chris and Mo arrived Martyn and Sue arrived as well as Andrew, Trevor and Kirsty, Andy and Ann, Matt, Richard, Stephen, Andy and Sue, John and Jacky we nicely set off on our short and unremarkable trip through Ashbourne I indicated right to turn into Tissington, but no, no, no, the road was closed due to the well dressing being on. Parking was in an adjacent field - in a Westfield? I don't think so, plus imagine the crowds, no, no. We continued, which was actually the route I had planned for later, so Glen and I racked our brains for somewhere suitable to take 10 cars, we carried on the route and STOP STOP STOP we met this fine fellow An irate farm contractor, who met 2 of his work mates coming in the opposite direction in equally large vehicles. The road sign states 'unsuitable for long or wide vehicles' he had no brake/reverse lights, no tread on his tyres and the number plate is half hidden, and then he had the audacity to get out of his vehicle and tell us to back up, but only after he had aggressively reversed and braked hard towards me. I had nowhere to go obviously and had to sit there and gulp. Long one short, Glen got out and told him what an unpleasant man he is, I had kittens and we all turned around and went on a different road. Phew. We decided to divert to Wetton but unknown to me (I had just given birth to kittens! cut me some slack) Richard had started to overheat and Trevor stayed with him. Richard appeared later and Trevor and Kirsty ended up at Hulme End ????? Wetton After being suitably refreshed and back on track we set off around the lanes of Dove Dale To arrive at Willersley Castle, and what a beautiful setting to take our beautiful cars. The view over the river Derwent from the Castle After lunch we risked a drive through Matlock Bath and it paid off because the traffic was flowing well and the road was lined with motorbikes and tourists, pose time! With the warm weather we decided an ice cream farm was required and went to Matlock Meadows, engage panorama mode again the bonnets came off and the ice cream was consumed, the conversion flowed making a lovely end to a rather challenging start Richard 2 cakes, and he even bothered to pay for them this time Mazda, Zetec, V8 and Honda take your pic Thank you to everyone for coming along today, hopefully you have enjoyed it as much as us, you are fun lot and make us laugh so much xxxx 4 Quote

He is normally a regular feature. Brilliant that he has mates who help 1 Quote

Unlike @Stu Faulkner the serial builder, I get my build fix by either re-building mine (I can change a radiator in F1 Pit Team times now!) or by helping Dave with his great project. It's an honour and privilege to help Dave and becoming more and more familiar with all the great tools he's got well stored in his garage, it's become a lot more obvious how he earned the name 'Gadgetman' 😎 There's still a lot to do, however a lot has been done too. We need to get @Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Secretary car out into the peaks soon for shakedown runs, before our road trip to Austria at the end of this month. 3 Quote
