Captain Colonial
Music schedule: Rocking and Racing Silverstone Classic isn’t just about fantastic racing, its ‘rocking and racing’ with great live music to enjoy after racing on Friday and Saturday evening. Friday DJ Sterling Moss will be playing to warm up the crowd and playing inbetween bands on both Friday and Saturday. Saturday Friday The Boomtown Rats had stand-out number one hits in the late seventies with ‘Rat Trap’ and ‘I Don’t Like Mondays’ but disbanded in the mid-eighties while frontman Bob Geldof concentrated on his charity work and a solo career. The Irish new wave band, however, reformed in 2013 when in Geldof’s own words, he felt it was the right time to ‘re-Rat, go back to Boomtown and start doing all those great songs once again’. It’s a magical musical treat Silverstone Classic visitors can savour in July. Revving up the crowd for The Boomtown Rats on Friday will be Ultimate Elton who performs many of Elton John’s hits and Limehouse Lizzy, which is keeping alive the great compositions of Phil Lynott and Thin Lizzy. Saturday For 2016, legendary performers The Stranglers and West Country rockers Reef will top the live music line-up on the Saturday evening of this year’s event. Born in the seventies’ punk rock era, The Stranglers are one of the punk bands to have stood the test of time and remain great live performers today. They have had no fewer than 23 UK Top 40 hits and 17 UK Top 40 albums in a career spanning five decades, with major hits including: ‘Golden Brown’; ‘Peaches’; ‘No More Heroes’; ‘Always the Sun’ and ‘Skin Deep’. Reef also put on a brilliant show and have enjoyed considerable chart fame. Their most successful hit ‘Place Your Hands’ reached number six in the UK singles charts while the album ‘Glow’ went straight to number one when released in 1997. Reef are regular favourites at major festivals and have some great new material for 2016 too. Both will be joined by Live/Wire who will be pumping out some stirring AC/DC hits to get everyone in the right party mood, it’s going to be another rousing night to remember at the Classic! Captain Colonial
Aerial Displays The programme is being stepped up again this year with not only displays from Twister Aerobatics, who will be back by popular demand for more pyrotechnic action on both Friday and Saturday evening, but awe-inspiring displays from The Blades and the Wildcats too. The Blades operate a low-wing, high performance aircraft designed for the most adventurous aerobatic manoeuvres and were created with advanced aerobatic flying in mind. Wildcat Aerobatics are also a crowd-thrilling formation aerobatic display running two Pitts Special biplanes. Twister Aerobatics - Friday and Saturday evening. Wildcat Aerobatics - Friday and Saturday during track lunch break. The Blades - Sunday during track lunch break.
