April 2017

April 1st, 2017 Spend: £9.00   Paul (@black st) offered to come round to see if the car was running on all cylinders and if it did, use his synchrometer to balance the throttle bodies.  After unplugging lead no 2, it was quite clear that the problem lied there.  A quick trip to Halfords to pick up a set of spark plugs was made, but they made no difference.  New coil pack ordered, but it may well be the leads.  Also had a listen at a rattle when the engine was running and this was

July 2019

July 8th, 2019 Spend: £0.00   A lovely evening at the pub with likeminded people     July 17th, 2019 Spend: £0.00   My son and I both wanted a 3D printer, and with the great thread from @nice_guy on all things 3D, we bought an Ender 3 Pro which was delivered a couple of days ago.  Biggest hurdle for me is the CAD side, but after a few tutorials I was confident enough to print my 1st car part: a backplate for the Hella 3rd brake light mounted on

June 2014

June 15th, 2014 Spend: £446 Sold:  £300   For the past 2 months I've been sitting on a padded garden chair cushion due to not being able to drive the car with the standard Westfield sport seats. At the Stoneleigh show I visited the Intatrim stand which had a lovely, but more importantly, comfortable thin shell seat on display.     I placed my order the next working day, and last Thursday they finally arrived.     Cleaned up the old seats

August 2015

August 1st, 2015 Spend: £9.03     Fabricated a muselet which should hopefully prevent the filler cap from popping off again.   August 2nd, 2015 Spend: £1.99   Continued with fitting the DRLs and after testing it over and over again put the dash back in (had it off as much as I could without removing steering wheel) and tightened the scuttle back discovered that the DRLs would go off as soon as I started the engine... Grrr! Too late in the day to

April 2014

April 12th, 2014 Spend: £100   Prior to collecting the car, I'd agreed to meet up with Barry as he had a lovely Aeroscreen up for sale. What better way to start ownership with your first upgrade?   April 14th, 2014 Spend: £36   Managed to snipe a brand new, never fitted leather boot tonneau cover on Ebay. Although it's designed for the single (cosmetic) rollbar, and I have an RAC one, I reckon with a little bit of DIY it can be made to fit.   Apr

May 2016

May 1st, 2016 Sold: £20.00   The annual pilgrimage to the spiritual home of the kit car... Stoneleigh! Organised a small convoy with the Northants members   Photo courtesy of Mark Russel of Carbon-NV fame   and when we arrived there, I was told to park it at the front of the Westfield Avenue     Managed to sell my old mirrors, but gave the cycle wings and harness to the club to sell, hopefully raising some money for the WSCC support

February 2019

February 21st, 2019 Spend: £0.00   The sun is out and the urge to go out in the Westfield again is growing.  Time to start cracking! Agreed to borrow @Marto303's sliding hammer so that I could remove the half shafts.  What a difference the right tool makes to a job .  They were out in 5 minutes, although I could not remove the OS without also removing the brake drum back plate.  And that means replacing the brake fluid as I've had to disconnect the lines.  Oh well, just anoth

February 2020

February 1st, 2020 Spend: £0.00     Not happy with the layout of the new centre console, I moved the USB charger to the dash and moved one of the remote control buttons to the other side of the steering wheel.   February 2nd, 2020 Spend: £11.94   Replaced the saddle clip and re-greased the Type 9 gearbox linkage, hoping it will improve the shifting issue I've been having for the past 2 years.  This time I put two spacers on the extension to rais

December 2016

December 5th, 2016 Spend: £17.26     Refitted the high level brake light and roll bar back onto the car.  Also connected up the high level brake light to wiring loom and tested it to make sure it has never have to come off again    December 9th, 2016 Spend: £923.00   Got a message from @windy at the beginning of the week telling my that my gearbox and diff were ready and were being dropped off at @Marto303's on Thursday.  So quickly arranged wit

May 2014

May 3rd, 2014 Spend: £7   Now the brakes are back together again, I could finally concentrate on the diff. The breather was smaller than the thread on the diff, so I bought some Sikaflex EBT+ from Screwfix and just glued it in place.     Then went for spin to warm the diff oil up and used my Pela 6000 to suck the old stuff out (by god it smells!). Got about 800ml out and put about 1.1L back in. Looks like it was well overdue!     May 9th,

January 2015

January 17th, 2015 Spend: £29.35   After a very docile December month, we're finally getting into the 'spend a weekend in the garage' routine that I need in order to get the car back on the road on the 1st of March (this year!). We're starting off with a piece of dashboard off-cut that will serve as a holder for the relays and fuses. I've had to order some more relays now I also have got my wiring diagrams done.       January 24th, 2015 Sp

August 2017

August 26th, 2017 Spend: £0.00   Lost a little interest in the car over the holiday period, but set myself to it today and was pleasantly surprised to discover that removing a crank from an engine is not actually that difficult.       This is the crank out of a spare engine, which, once checked, will be making it's way into my engine.   August 28th, 2017 Spend: £0.00     Fitted the oil pressure gauge that I collec

October 2015

October 29th, 2015 Spend: £0   Seeing as the weather looks to be wet and miserable I'm putting my sensible head on and put the car on SORN. Gives me plenty of time to fit those winter upgrades I've been collecting   October 31st, 2015 Spend: £0   And so the story ends for the year... To serve as a little reminder to myself, a little video I recorded earlier this month         Last month: £  2122.67 This month: £     0.

December 2019

December 1st, 2019 Spend: £36.99   Continuing with the badge fixing.       And then I moved onto the next thing, replacing the odo display.  This turned out to be a bit of a 'mare, but hopefully once put back together, not very noticeable where I had to damage things to get it apart.     I'm taking the opportunity to change the face of the gauge as the plan is to replace all gauge faces in a similar style.   December 8th, 2019

February 2017

February 4th, 2017 Spend: £66.98   Completed engine mount alteration and now it looks like the bonnet fits, as well as having enough clearance with the alternator on the chassis.     Started on fuel lines and relocated fuel pressure regulator to the rear of the engine next to the coils by altering an IKEA fastener slightly.     Fastened the clutch and accelerator cables.  Measured up all the cooling pipe sizes so I can start ordering these

June 2019

June 2nd, 2019 Spend: £18.45   Too hot this weekend to do anything on the car, but did manage to spend 5 minutes replacing the coolant sensor in the thermostat housing that is connected to the ECU.   June 6th, 2019 Spend: £174.00   Ever since I had been messing with the suspension, I had this profound knocking, mostly audible at low speed.  Could not figure out what it was, so handed the car over to NMS and left them to sort the geometry and eliminate the

May 7th, 2017 Spend: £16.95   After speaking to Graham about my 2nd gear selection issue one of the things I learned was that the Fuchs Titan Race Gear 90 LS differential oil I had put in my live axle with plated diff is the wrong one and that I should have used Castol B373.  Got 2L from Opie and replaced it today.   May 12th, 2017 Spend: £112.11   My new TPS (a Penny&Giles one) arrived from Spoox Motorsport yesterday and as I was "working from home" t

October 2019

October 19th, 2019 Spend: £0.00   Earlier this week I had a small electrical faux-pas as my carbon cycle wing had slowly worn away at my wiring and caused a short!       At the same time my engine would turn over but not start, so after a lot of failed attempts at diagnosing the issue, it actually turned out to be the damn idle adjuster screw again.  Have now marked it's position, so I can spot it earlier.  Repaired the wiring and all is good again...  other th

January 3rd, 2017 Spend: £10.00   Visited local welding place Bucks Welding & Fabrication who welded a larger metal plate on the bottom of the mount so there is a better surface cover.     January 7th, 2017 Spend: £6.98   Back to the engine mount.  This time armed with some additional aluminium spacers I fixed the pedestal into its final location.  The engine is mounted!     Now concentrating on the exhaust.  Started wit

June 1st, 2017 Spend: £25.00   When I notified the DVLA about the engine change, I got a letter back saying that they could only accept an inspection of a garage on headed paper.  Visited a few garages today and found  V-A-G Tune Services just around the corner from work who was happy to oblige to that request.  Paperwork now off to the DVLA again, so fingers crossed!   June 11th, 2017 Spend: £0.00     Free tickets to see the GT3/4 racing at Sil

January 2016

January 17th, 2016 Spend: £0.00   Decided to finally make a start with the winter upgrades although the temperature outside made it not very pleasant. As I'll be fitting (finally!) some carpets I stripped the car of it's interior and scuttle to allow for decent access.     Ready for the next step; cleaning up the accumulation of oil, grime and grit.         Last month: £  2122.67 This month: £     0.00             ----------+

November 2nd, 2014 Spend: £0   Now the dash is removed, I need to untangle the wiring mess. After recommendation on the forums I also removed the scuttle. It makes access so much easier.     November 16th, 2014 Spend: £5.55   Finally had the courage to tap the 5/16th UNC thread in the exhaust manifold and I shouldn't have been so worried. Turned out to be very easy     November 22nd, 2014 Spend: £144.96
