:) cheers capt'n

i dont think i have been heavy handed or even to harsh at all with any new forum freeloaders :suspect: or old forum freeloaders or even folk who want a pat on the back for things they have done for the club and its members over the years ,folk who come on here wanting everything for nowt then moaning coz they cant get it for nowt :p i stand by it ,pay or shut up :p :p

thats not to bad is it and if that offends you then ,oh dear its sad ;)

depends on the out come you are looking for.

if you want them to go away and stop bothering you spot on!

if you would like them to hand over some hard earned ,then maybe a softer approach would work as well.

Hi

As an Area Organiser who like so many others give up their own free time to benefit their friends and members of the club I feel a little disappointing in some of the non constructive comments made by some people in this thread.

For a start the cost of joining the club is minimal. Especially if you take into account that from some of the sponsors give a 10% discount on the insurance ( as most decent kit car insurers will do if your a member of the club ). So for an average £250 insurance the 10% discount covers the cost of membership.

Everything else then is a bonus :-

  • Web Site Access
  • Area Meetings
  • Area Events
  • Track Days
  • Run outs
  • Bulk Buys
  • Recommendations
  • Unlimited Advice Westfield Related Or Not
  • Friendly Banter
  • Good Mates
  • Meeting Nigel Mansel

I'm sure active members have also lent and borrowed specialist tools saving countless cost and hassle ( That reminds me wheres my engine hoist !!!)

Its even been known when members have damaged their pride and joy replacement, spare parts have come flooding in with offers to assist in the fitting so members can get back on the road ASAP.

I also agree that its good that the club remains independent from the factory. Yes the factory are welcome and can contribute to the forums whenever they see fit. But its good that the forum can be open and independent. For example if it was not independent we would not be able to post Where and what alternative parts can be sourced.

Personally, I don't think you could get much better value for money.

Steve

I think I understand the driver for all this ;) and as a member agree with the princible but from a Hearts & Minds point of view it is far better to offer something extra rather than take away (although within a couple of months this will all blow over).

How about a members only area (no not that sort) where only members can post like the AO area. Over time we could use it to hold details of local area events etc so on a national just browsing basis you can look but further buy in requires buy in ???

Just an idea and my 2p if the driver is really what I think it is ;)

WSCC is not the only club in the world whose website has limit access to one (or more ) of there pages e.g. search facilty , technical advice , archives etc. etc. for members only ,

I support and pay membership to 2 motoring clubs and 3 sailing clubs . 4 if you count the RNLI .

I cant understand the mentality of anyone who thinks they should have an "automatic right" to gain full access to any Organization ad lib.

Perhaps the OP thinks its OK for some one else to pay for his pleasures in life , but in my book you expect to get out only as much as your prepared to put in :t-up:

I think we are moving from flogging the expired equine and getting dangerously close to necrophilia...

but...as a recently re-joined member, I am more than happy to pay the trivial membership fee. It's amazing value. I re joined due to an up-turn in my use of the forum, and out of a sense of fairness, not through the lack of a search tool.

Sorry wuv these days health and safety has deemed it too dangerous to flog dead horses in case you breathe in equine hair :d

Interesting nine pages of genuine comments.

Can't understand why some thought the OP was a troll - a pleasant well structured opinion of how, as a newbie, they found the site.

Personally, I wouldn't at all pay for this forum. From an IT perspective, it is very good and very fast (most important aspect IMHO), but nothing really stands out where you should pay for it compared to others on the internet.

I do agree with members having more features, but search and LIMITED PMs should be availible. Things like avatar, signature, new topics in FS, blogging function, like button and all of those trinkets should only be available to members.

I still firmly believe that the forum should be used as an advert to entice members, not a totalitarian 'Feuck off because you haven't paid' domain. I have no doubt SteveD is like that for everyone, but it is kind of off putting to newbies that see this and then see 'The Diplomat - Cheshire & North Staffs AO'. It doesn't look good in the same way in that if Davey Cameron did an interview saying 'Feuck the poor, i'm alright Jack!' even if this is inevitably what he actually thinks :)

Having said that, Captain C has already told us that nothing will change, so to the OP, your opinion, whilst insightful, falls upon deaf ears.

However, the rest of the stuff you get as a member - certainly worth the fee. The discount in insurance alone was more than the £40 I paid (and this is the only car club I have been a member of that has actually delivered on an insurance discount), so i'm a happy bunny.

The magazine is a bit weak, but it passes several minutes whilst on the 'throne' :)

I have not yet got into the Speed Series aspect of the club, but it is an avenue i'd like to explore. I have no doubt i'll appear on some track days organised by the club too

Stoneleigh - I attended Stoneleigh as a non owning non member last year. The WSCC tent was quite large but it did seem a bit dull. I only stayed for 30 minutes mind, so do take that comment with a pinch of salt because it may well have been more active earlier on in the day.

Methinks you significantly overestimate my persuasive powers...! Nought to do with me!

I've been through this thread again and cannot find anywhere that I've said or alluded that. In fact, I've actually said that limited searches or posts until a paid member if possible was a good idea in this very thread - if you look.

From past comments of yours, I may not be your favourite member - that bothers me not a jot, couldn't care less, and wouldn't let it colour my judgement back towards you. But I will correct anything said about me in error to avoid it influencing others' opinion of me to make it even less favourable than it already is! :d

couple of phrases in life appropriate to this thread.

if you have got nothing nice to say than say nothing...

and you catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar.

I have nothing against you!!

It was back on the old 'Why can't I search' thread where you were abrupt saying that nothing would change and we should just accept it:

Posted 13 January 2012 - 07:35 PM

We have established:

Members who pay a very reasonable fee have more privileges hn non-members

Some non-members feel this is unfair

Most members feel it is fair

The policy will not change, so those who disagree will have to live with it

Not everyone will be happy, but that's life

Ok, can someone please lock this thread now?

The full thread is here:

http://forum.wscc.co...-search-system/

I'm certainly not proud of a couple of my posts, but I must admit I got frustrated!!

I was just trying to jokingly recap and provide a synopsis of what others had said in the thread, not dictating policy as it's not mine to dictate - apologies if you misinterpreted it.
