The science nerd in me can't help but post this sorry Blatters, but it's not an inoculation but a vaccine, an inoculation is the live version of an active virus ( albeit in small amounts) whereas a vaccine is a modified active ingredient that prevents the virus getting into your cells - bit more to it than that but that covers the basics. Sorry but its one of my bugbears 🤣 I'm prone to a bit of pedantry myself. However I was using inocculation in the colloquial
Richard (OldStager)
I had my letter today, and as was said already it just says to book online, which is what I attempted to do the other day. Going to have to drive the 15 miles , when the woman next door walked to one up the road ( as did an old boy over the road) - very odd how this is being done. Richard (OldStager)
Yet another interesting discussion on vaccines, anti- vaxxers and more. Science Shambles is a science QnA show hosted by Robin Ince and Helen Czerski. This week we're looking at COVID and vaccines with Prof Dan Davis and Prof Sheena Cruickshank. Robin Parker (Red Spider) - Yorkshire AO
Had my first one tonight at Elland Road. Very efficient, in and out in 15 minutes. Had to wait 15 minutes as I was driving, but could wait in the car.
jeff oakley
Had my first one last night very happy no reactions so far. The questions on how this is being organised is interesting. The big centres are seperate to the GP run centres. I had a letter inviting me to have one at Bath Racecourse two days later GP called to offer one, which was walking distance from home. The NHS are now trying to direct as many as they can to the centres, where they can do more each day and get GP's back to being GP's but that is hard as GP practices will never be what they were before the pandemic. stephenh
Me and Mrs H went to one of the smaller ones, simply because it was the first available when I went on line to book, on the morning of getting our NHS letters saying we had become eligible. Half an hour later someone from our GP's practice rang to ask if we would like them to arrange our jabs. I was told that the small centre we went to was arranged by a group of pharmacists in the area. Whatever, very efficient, and when I booked on line I was able to book ahead for our second jabs as well.👍
Blatman
Had my first Oxford/AstraZeneca jab about 4 hours ago at my local chemist. Slick, efficient service, in and out in under 10 mins. No sitting around required although they did say don't drive for 15 mins. But rather than sit in my car I went for a walk. Better to get the blood moving I reckon... So far, no pain in the injection site and no general arm pain either. And I barely felt the injection at all. So for those who are nervous of needles (as I am) there is honestly nothing to worry about. I've hurt myself more having a shave...
Onliest Smeg David
Was Saturday morning and 1st AZ for me. At the time didn't feel injection at all. Having a little sensitivity around injection site, and arm a bit of ache.

I am a needle phobe as well, but I'm having it. Better than being really Ill or dead.

corsechris
I’m on the verge of getting aggravated about what’s happening with the AZ vaccine in europe. I have an alternative reason to suspend the use...car crashes. I bet more people have had car crashes after the vaccination than have had issues with blood clots, therefore, car crashes are a direct consequence of having the vaccination....no?? What the heck is wrong with these people? Fewer cases of thrombotic events in those who have been vaccinated than would be expected in a sample that size. Why not claim the vaccination is reducing said cases rather than causing them? At least the data actually supports that notion. Good grief...it’s almost as if someone is orchestrating a smear campaign against AZ.
