Surprised I have to travel 40 miles to the appointment but it is what it is and not an issue. 40, wow. The internet says mine is about 15 miles away, yet all my immediate neighbours have traveled no more than a mile or so. One chap over the road walked there... 2 mins walk. Well done anyway.
Dan Ingram
Just now, Blatman said: Really? 10 mins? I thought they were supposed to monitor people for 15 minutes post jab? You have to sit inside for 5 mins while they monitor you then if you have driven yourself there you can sit in your car outside for 10 minutes. I think it's to stop it getting too crowded inside. There isn't a lot of space.
Blatman
Ah right, OK. I was wondering if there was some discrepancy there.

I am not 100% sure so please don't take this for gospel but speaking to my neighbour who booked online as he has fallen within the current age bracket with no underlying health issues, he has to go to Reading football club (started vaccinations about 2 weeks ago) which is about 20 miles away, however there is a big vaccination centre 5 mins away at Newbury Racecourse that has been operating from day 1. He was under the impression as he booked online he is going to Reading and the ones that are classed as vulnerable and get called up by their GP are going to the local (to us) vaccination centre???? So it does seem to depend on age/health issues as to where you get sent, does this sound right? I'm mid 40's, so a while yet, however saying that they are getting through it fairly quickly so it may only be in next couple off months? I do have asthma but it's well controlled so maybe I should just drive the 15 miles then?. At least it will be done with then.

I was surprised at the mileage but that was the closest one that came up when I put in my postcode. Not sure if it is to do with the category that you are in. It did give me to option to wait to see if one more local came up but I am not bothered about travelling to go get it done.
AlanHodge
So, vaccinated today @ AFC Fylde, Wesham, nr Preston. Really well organised. From booking in, waiting, short series of questions to injection about 10 minutes. Had to wait 10 minutes before leaving although self monitored so could have left sooner. When I booked online I had 3 or 4 options of which site I could use, so picked the one with shortest lead time about 10 miles but only 4 days wait. Can’t really praise the staff and volunteers highly enough, so if anyone knows anyone working or volunteering at any vaccination centre please pass on my thanks, there all doing a fantastic job.

MR.C
Bit like sheep inoculations.
jim_l
Travelled a way to get mine, don't mind if we leave GPs and local services for those less mobile. Told I could leave but not drive for 15 minutes. 300 million worldwide vaccinated now. All of the science I have seen says it isn't going away, we will still need Covid wards in autumn and winter, I wonder how the vaccine reluctant will feel when they realise those wards are almost exclusively for them? How will the rest of us feel when a lot of our tax and NI contributions are funding their selfishness because of some ridiculous belief system. Plenty of anit-vaxxer complain about the world becoming a two tier society (as if it wasn't already). yet they fail to understand that a simple innoculation puts them where they want to be instead of realising that their reluctance is the cause of the thing they rail against. Talk about a self fulfilling prophecy...
Richard (OldStager)
True, but think on the bright side, when they die the rest may start to work out that it perhaps a good idea to have it after all. The science nerd in me can't help but post this sorry Blatters, but it's not an inoculation but a vaccine, an inoculation is the live version of an active virus ( albeit in small amounts) whereas a vaccine is a modified active ingredient that prevents the virus getting into your cells - bit more to it than that but that covers the basics. Sorry but its one of my bugbears 🤣
corsechris
Another variant of the 15 minute monitoring, if I’d been on my own, they’d have insisted I sit for 15 minutes. As I had the missus with me, they were happy for me to go as long as she drove home. Basically, treated like a responsible adult. Rare these days!

I think they were monitoring people for 15 minutes after the Pfizer jab because there had been a few cases of anaphylaxis reported at first but no cases had been reported after the oxford vaccine so they were not monitoring people but advising they just sit in the car for 10 minutes before driving as a precaution.
