The symptoms are everything to do with your immune response.

So if there is no reaction, there is no immune response and therefore the vaccine is not working? We had that debate already...

Had my 2nd AZ the other week. I pre-dosed with Paracetamol but had almost zero response to the jab this time anyway. Just a very slight tender spot at the site of the jab. 1st one gave a tender arm for a week, a day of lethargy and a bit of a headache.

For the record, my reasons for having the jab were probably 50/50 selfish/selfless. I don’t want to catch it and have a bad reaction any more than I’d want to give it to anyone else.

I’m pretty much a recluse at the best of times anyway, so this whole deal is largely passing me by. The only impact has been very first-world, I had a holiday cancelled and a couple of events I might have attended haven’t taken place. I’ve not lost anyone as there’s almost nobody left in my family anyway, I’m retired so no work to disrupt other than some occasional work I used to do for my former employer....that I was on the verge of swerving anyway. I’m well aware that I have been very fortunate.

I simply don’t understand where people who won’t have the jab are coming from though. Honestly, I just don’t get how they think. My uncle’s “partner” is one of these. She “doesn’t believe in that sort of thing”. One can only assume that she thinks the entire global community of healthcare professionals and sciences are in league and that all illnesses & treatments are a scam of some kind. Oddly, she seems OK with vets treating her animals though.

I can’t see an issue with compulsory vaccination for those in healthcare either. I was obliged to have jabs for hepatitis when I worked in the NHS, wasn’t an issue. Hard to imagine anyone in that line if work not being front and centre for a jab ASAP TBH

Your logic is totally flawed on that statement.🤣

individuals vary in their  immune response ( antibody production) and said response will be different from person to person.

Some react badly some dont, we're all different.

A small number of individuals will not respond at all and will not produce antibodies and so you can deduct that the vaccine didnt work for them.

Such is life....

Well, at the most basic level, it is....

There are hundreds, perhaps thousands of immunology books which can add additional layers of detail.

After a 33 year career in immunology with the National Blood Service I've owned quite a few of those texts or perhaps i read it in the Beano once, who knows.......

Anyway, time for a beer....🍺🍺

Hopefully you wont experience any  adverse symptoms...👍

We had this debate earlier in the thread. Clearly I mis-understood the contributions from others.

But how does that account for the Pfizer/Biontec evidence that says IF a reaction occurs it will be worse with the second dose? Is that purely becasue of the different method (viral vector versus... er...nano-something). If the desire is to kick the immune system into producing anti-bodies and both AZ and PB does that, why the opposite side effect occurences?

I had my second jab this week. No issues that I could feel, so now I have no idea if the second jab has done anything or not!

Heres hoping ….

Round 2 with AZ today. It was supposed to be this coming Sunday but they asked if I could come along sooner. I suspect this is part of the surge effort and that's fair enough given that the London boroughs I regularly visit are all seeing significant rises in cases, although the borough where i reside is still on a downward trend.

So far (5 ish hours) no  pain at the injection site at all. For the first one there was some slight pain which lasted a few days, and I felt rough the next day, so I may have that to look forward to. However they do say that if a reaction occurs, the second dose causes a less severe reaction for AZ. Given that last time it was no more than general achiness  which a good nights sleep cleared completely, I am hoping that this is no worse than that and sort of expecting it to be a non-event. More to follow...

And coming up for two days later and the only side effect was feeling quite tired yesterday afternoon and my arm hurts, but only a little bit. So all in all, round two was definitely easier than round one and whilst round one was noticable, I wasn't reaching for the paracetamol or the nurofen. So all that's left is to hope I am one of the ~90% of people who have good protection going forwards.

Had my first stabbin today (pfizer) not really noticed any effects yet, suppose we'll see in the morning. The previously retired nurse lady was chatting away and then said 'your all done' didn't even notice the needle going in! Very slick operation.

Had my second letter today, following two text messages, 'inviting' me for mine. This seems quite insistent. The literature within the NHS letters did not state that I should have the vaccine, and does not offer any good reasons why I should.

Between 8 of my school friends we know of 3 people who have had serious health complications (blood clot related) immediately following the AZ vaccine. I also know of two people (same household) who have been bed-ridden with Covid after having had both jabs. My mum ticks every risk box, had Covid, and is still alive somehow.

Ergo: I am still not sure about all of this.

In these situations I tend to speak to the most informed person I know within that area.

That happens to be a school friend who studied at Oxford, came out with a 1st, and now works in the pharmaceutical industry. He has decided not to have the vaccine.

i am going to need to do some more research, and find some bl**** some good reasons to go and get stabbed!
