For a track day you are (or can be) “socially distant” apart from the briefing.

I think the "unnecessary travel" pretty much kills off everything Westfield related? 😞

I reckon it's a sweeping statement. Using a little bit of sense will always prevail IMO. A drive out by yourself in a car that only you drive, having no contact with any other humans (other than perhaps using a petrol station - which you can still do with a contactless card at the pump) doesn't really fall into the high risk category. Using the tube to pop over and see your mate for a coffee in Starbucks.... a bit different!

Yes Adam, having thought a bit more about it, I would think the PM is referring to public transport use. The other undesirable aspect of trackdays is of course bringing people together from all over the country? As has been suggested though, a bit of a rethink over the briefing situation and we could all stay apart.

Could really do with a statement from MSUK or a TDO representation to clarify things.

I suggest limiting trackday numbers to about 20. 😉

There was a line about withdrawing all emergency services from sporting events.. not sure how that effects the medics at trackdays? Are they privately owned ambulances and volunteer medics?

We’ll stay we’ll away from you Andrew.....we can’t keep up! (Just realised the naivety that I still class myself in the “young” demographic)

I think given the average age of Westy drivers .. you are a mere sprog Russ. 😉

I was at Castle Coombe yesterday doing an interview with Ross from Slip & Grip for an article I am writing for WW and he was clear (having spoken to several tracks and other TDOs) that they plan to continue to offer the events whilst they can but will be run with added CV19 precautions:

1- Sign on will be spread out and limited contact

2-Drivers briefing will be outside where possible or again spread out

3-Cafe/Restaurants/Shops etc will be contactless payment only and also 'via a hatch' using disposalable plates, cups and utensils (where is the save the planet now...)

4-Pit lanes and Paddocks will be asked to spread out and where possible 'Chat across the car'

Other than that, the issue for many will be for those venues where people travel far and stay overnight, the hotels and restaurants that accommodate them may well be closed or at best limited (not sure ref camping).

Whilst the tracks and TDOs are VERY keen for these Track Days (approx 50-60 cars/drivers) to continue, the other car/track events may well be cancelled and this is the killer - TDs are not very profitable for the very reason they are small numbers - Big Spectator events are what keep tracks going with tickets, sponsors, retailers, food vendors, amusements etc all paying to be there.

What he was sure about was that continental trips are OFF probably for the rest of this year!

It was clear from his comments that business was already tight for the TDOs (Big ones like Javelin and MSV may have more resilience as they operate over more tracks and a greater number of events per year so can absorb a bit of a hit) and they will need our support (Drivers) to keep them afloat or they may have to take a tactical pause until restrictions are freed up?

Also, a final note was book up early as decisions are being made earlier on GO - NO GO for TDs due to the CV issues and the need to give notice to tracks ref cancellations.

REf Track Day Medics - most tracks have to have their own (often double-hatted marshals)  due to insurance issues and not wanting to pay Ambulance Service rates or rely on Volunteer St Johns Ambulance.

I think there are increased and hence external emergency services at the bigger events simply due to the larger number of people attending.

Interestingly, if you've been to a Javelin day in the last 18 months, you can read a card and avoid the briefing altogether.

That’s good to know
