Ben-H
I'd recommend soaking everything with penetrating oil, wd40 or similar before trying the rest. I gave all the fittings on my mx a daily 'squirt' for a week before pulling it apart and had no issues on a 1990 car. Gotta be easier than struggling Please be careful with those 'stands' don't put yourself between the car and the ground! Might be worth leaving the trolley jack under as a backup! I had my mk1 escort on me 25yrs ago from not using axle stands, not a comfortable experience!! :
Prawnabie
I had to used a windy gun on the nub nuts. I also had to press the rear lower arm pins out after they had snapped.
Prawnabie
As a side note be careful with those blocks of wood, it doesn't take much to split a log down the grain when there is that amount of weight involved - id get a cheap set of stands from halfords or the like. daveq92
I'll be careful thanks , I have used logs before and don't forget they used them down mines for hundred of years and I always leave the jack under just in case. I would of used a windy gun if I had one, as for the lower hub bolt it could have been soaked in wd40 for 50 yrs and it still wouldn't of come out lol. does anyone know how to fit and where to get lockstops for the steering rack..? Prawnabie
I made some out of perspex but you can buy them off the shelf. If you can get the shafts down to willenhall I have a windy gun at work.

daveq92
Not a lot been happening the last ten or so days apart from stripping the mx which could have gone a lot smother, but hey it's all part of the fun of the build. I've bought a few more bits and pieces, steering rack ,head gasket set ,water pump, track rod ends, ball joints, new seal set for all the breaks and ordered the cams and new springs .I have taken all the bits I want sand blasting , ie the brakes, hubs, discs and diff and cleaned the gearbox. I have now put the fuel lines on and sorted the rear loom and put that in place ,finished clipping the brake pipes and shortened the rack ready for fitting and made a start on the hand brake should finish that over the weekend . Oh and I took my wife Jennie away for the weekend for our anniversary, went up to Bradford over the Tour de France had a great time and visited family also, had a great time. I've took a few more pics and I'll post them next week
