KugaWestie
You need them on the cycle wings for IVA
Mark (smokey mow)
14's look great as well, I am sure Mark will be along soon as he is running MX5 14's I'm on the lookout for a set of 13" revolution 4 spoke wheels though You called A word of caution with 13" wheels. i've used steel weller wheels sucessfully but they will only fit over the smaller brakes used on the 1600 MX5's not the larger fronts used on the 1800. Depending on the thickness of the alloy rim section there may also be a chance that certain 13" wheels wont fit.

Ben-H
Thanks Mark, Ive read about the potential clearance issues of 13" wheels on the mx forums, as you know, mine is early 1.6 based so there is a chance they'll fit but i'm not gambling on buying a new set until I've found a second hand one to try!! That said, i'll be staying on the 15's and keeping things "standard" until after IVA time...

daveq92
took the gearbox, prop and a bit of the rear wiring out today ,had a good look at the brake discs and they look nearly new so I wont be changing those, checked my wheel size 15" surprised me. so tomorrow if I have time and weather permitting I'll be tackling the diff and brakes. just a question to those in the know, do I need to go to westfield for the steering rack and if not what make and spec of rack is best
Prawnabie
I got mine from burton but rally design do a mk2 escort rack with metric ends too. You may have to fit lockstops to it to stop the wheels hitting the bodywork on full lock though.
Mark (smokey mow)
The steering rack is Mk2 Escort, the advantage of the Westfield rack is that it includes lock stops to prevent the front wheels and cycle wings from hitting the body at full steering lock. If you go for a rack from any other supplier also budget to fit your own lock stops fo limit the movement. I'm using the standard Westfield steering rack in my car but you may want a quick rack if your bias is more toward using the car on track rather than the road. KugaWestie
Mine is a standard Westfield rack. 2.4 turns lock to lock - is that classed as a quick rack?

That's the same of mine, but 2.4 lock to lock on a Westfield Rack that has lock stops fitted wont be as fast as 2.4 turns lock to lock on rack without lock stops fitted as one has to move further. daveq92
what a day ! had a go at tackling n/s brakes and hub on the mx. All was going well the brakes came off a treat and looked in great shape , the discs looked new though a bit rusty as they have been stood a while nothing a good clean wont sort out then I tried the hub nut after tapping out the divet on the nut itself and nothing, didn't budge so I put a extension on the socket bar it was now about 2 feet long and nothing I then put an extension on the extension and still nothing, this by the way in case your wondering how I held it is after I had put the brakes back on so out came the seven- eight foot tube to put over the socket bar and guess what still nothing so out came the gas torch and after heating it up still nothing even after jumping on it. I decided my only alternative was to cut it off so out came the angle grinder and cutting I began of course the grinder wouldn't go all the way through without damaging the hub itself so out came the drill and chisel eventually after another go on the bar it came off, great now to the top bolt on the hub easy peesey now the bottom bolt the long one, off came the nut and surprise surprise the bolt would not move, I tried the socket on the other end nothing, with a seven foot bar and below is the result so out came the grinder again. only the o/s side and the fronts to do, cant wait ! I'll tackle the seized bolt tomorrow, and I was going to buy some axle stands for mx then I remembered all those trees I cut down earlier this year, what do you think of these beauties .
