Persil
Ok rather than replace my broken VDO Speedo im looking at fitting a Push Bike Speedo. Popped into Halfrauds and they have the Sigma ones on display but there not selling them anymore They have there own brand ones but i have no idea if they will go up to a decent speed and will got down small enough for a car wheel. The local bike shop has vdo/cateye/specialised ones but all the ones we looked at only went to 65mph or never went down small enough to use on a car . Now i have seen 3-4 people at my local meet have them fitted and a few posts on here about them so please list what model you are using (and where you got it) and any pictures of how you mounted the sensor would be nice.. Man On The Clapham Omnibus
Got mine from 'alfred's and it's their £9 (ish) cheapo. Goes up to decently illegal speeds (allegedly ) and will adjust for proper wheel sizes.
felters
I had one and dumped it... bought a proper speedo. Couldn't see the numbers in a hurry. Hopeless.

Persil
Dont really need to see it in a hurry as just for a rough speed for when in areas where it matters what speed im doing. Was also planning on fitting back light led's . The other product looks lovely but at £189 i may as well buy a new vdo guage . So still looking for info on what other people use and how they have fitted them. Regards Persil
Major Stare
Look on e-Bay, there's loads ! This goes upto rdZ1QQcmdZViewItem" target="_blank">99 mph
Blatman
Loads here. Prices look OK too. If you're feeling flush then I have one of these and it's excellent with lots of toys to play with..
Man On The Clapham Omnibus
Right! Don't buy a cordless one 'cos the distance is too great from speedo to sender. To see if you like it spend £10 at 'alfred's and get a cheap push bike one, extend the wires (twin core bell wire - easy), fix the magnet to the rear drive shaft, run the wire to the dash and fit the gauge. My magnet is cable tied to the cylindrical part of the cvj on the inboard end of the offside driveshaft and the pickup similarly cable tied to a bit of aluminium angle fixed to a near by chassis member. If you take the bootbox out it's all there to see. No pics, I'm afraid. Calibrating is easy too. There's a web site somewhere (no doubt someone will be on in a moment with the address) that tells you the rolling circumference of various tyre sizes (or "tires" as I think it is from the other side) or you can measure it yourself with a bit of chalk, a tape measure and a bit of flat tarmac. If you find the digital readout to your taste and don't mind a bit og lag in the reading it's a cheap and fairly accurate speedo.
Persil
Cheers Motco . The main reason i wanted to know what other people use is because alot of speedos dont go past 60mph or go down low enough in wheel size to work on a car . I dont want to really buy one and run all the cables and make brackets up only to find it does not work. I checked the cateye website last night and seems a few of there models will work...but with the bank holliday i think i will have to wait till next week to get one . Blatman
And FWIW, I had cause to recalibrate my SPA speedo this morning. I used this calculator to workout tyre circumference, and this gear calculator to work out the speed in gears based on RPM as a double check. Between them, I got my speedo to within 1MPH of actual speed across the entire rev range, although I didn't test it flat in 5th for obvious reasons... Man On The Clapham Omnibus
I knew Blatters could be relied on despite recent minor negative comments....
