westfield7se Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 Sorry to interrupt the ‘beer festival’ In 1987 when I was looking for something ‘different’ there wasn’t much about in the way of quality ‘kit’ cars. The Caterham was miles ahead of most in terms of style, quality and of course ‘price’. For me, it was then and still is a style icon of its time, which is why so many companies have copied it, some closer than others’ Mr Smith’. Least we not forget the ‘history/heritage’ of the modern day Westfield. The main reason I bought my ‘seven’ because it was a replica of a car that I had always admired but for a fraction of the cost. I’m sure most people on here know what followed soon afterwards and as a result my Westfield (No.331) is affectionately called a ‘pre-lit’. It was only for this reason that Mr Smith had to go back to the drawing board and the westfield was reborn. The only adverse comments I have had surprisingly are from a couple of westfield owners a few years ago, that I was trying to make my westfield look like a caterham!!! I have no experience of Westfield or Caterham aftersales so I couldn’t comment on any issue people have with them. Westfield’s product now, is so much different from back in 1987 and as such stands alone as a quality ‘seven’ product. I just think it is folly always trying to compare it to a Caterham – why not compare it to the many other ‘seven’s out there? As to value for money, boils down to what you want the car for really I would have thought. On a personal note I am not a fan of the styling of the modern day westfield which brings me back to 1987 and the reason in the first place why I bought my westfield. Well best get back to my 1664. a4drk Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 funny you should say that, I'm off Skye and the outer Hebrides next week. I will get a bottle when I pass.... have some Aberlour while I’m gone. There's a pub near the Talisker distillery, it's called something like "The Inn" or somesuch. Last time I was there it was a great place to stay and to drink and to eat. That was in 1999 though If anyone is planning a visit to The Isle of Skye, I delivered a 1974 (or N reg) Caterham 7 to the B & B owner (a friend of a friend) So, if you are looking for a B & B with a Caterham 7 owner .... www.stonefieldskye.co.uk Quote
