Hi Gary great work and the bias valves is correct the F top and bottom I used ( on the last 7) for split fronts and the top rear for the rear line with a hydraulic switch in the line, bottom rear for the fluid in.

in hindsight I could have run the front top to a T for the fronts and put the hydraulic switch in the front bottom ( no trapped air bubble with it pointing up)

loving the build

Thanks

Looking good Gary. With those used bits, are you not going to give them a bit of paint? Just one coat of silver POR15 would look a lot nicer. Its what I did on alternator and tensioners on mine.

I started having a look at the brake lines this evening.

First up was to put the brake switch into a tee piece, this got fitted at the bottom of the chassis in front of the footwell bulkhead

Next a tee piece centrally at the front of the chassis

The last tee piece at the back of the chassis offset to one side of the tunnel

Finally I made up a pipe to run from the brake switch tee to the tee at the rear of the chassis

Hopefully the last leg of the pipe into the rear tee piece will be acceptable at IVA

The brake pipe runs are guesswork really as the build manual (good for firestarting only) does not cover routes, it just says "Install the brake lines"

I probably will coat up the used bits @Thrustyjust, once the chassis is back upright. There is bound to be a couple of dead days when I am waiting for parts to arrive

When you got the kit Gary, are all the bits part of what you got ( other than Mazda stuff) or are you buying everything now ?

What I got to start with consisted of chassis, bodywork, jag donor parts (running gear) steering column, brakes and discs, diff, prop shaft. Also it included engine, ecu and wiring loom that I sold on

Sorry guys , I did read bits, got confused and put it down to an age thing :d On the other hand, Gary is almost Oxfords breaker yard, with spare parts of cars generally lying around !

I got the hub carrier bearings and fulcrum pin back together tonight.

This has been a bit of a challenge for a couple of weeks. I did not take them apart and was struggling to wrap my head around how to put them together. Got there in the end though.

Here was the jigsaw

Bearing races installed

And all assembled

One step forward and one back today!

I broke out the Tiger Seal and run some beads around all of the floor pan, tunnel and bulkhead areas, so hopefully the chassis is nice and waterproof now

After letting that go off for a couple of hours I then turned the chassis back over with a view to starting to build up the suspension/running gear. I decided to start with the front. After 15 minutes of searching I found the lower fulcrum pins, only to notice that one of them had been totally mullered on the threaded end by the guy who dismantled the XJS :bangshead: He obviously does not understand the principle of putting the nut back on and hitting the nut to move a shaft, instead choosing to hammer the end of a threaded shaft!

After a good hour of trying to repair the thread I have given it up as a bad job and ordered a pair of new fulcrum pins

Posted

Whilst waiting for the new fulcrum pins to arrive, I had a quick look at the upper front wishbones and how they mount to the chassis.

I dug out the bolts and the special “D” washers. The bolts are knackered so I have ordered some new ones.

I did clean up the D washers though, before and after

Then I loosely hung on the top and bottom wishbones on one side
