Any Stargazers Here?

Should really post this one up. Amazingly complex active region on the Sun. Multiple times bigger than the earth. Phone shot through my solar scope.

A few more recent images, some of the Moon, Venus and a recent large Active Region on the Sun.

This shows a feature called Schröter’s Valley and the bright crater is Aristarchus.

This one below shows two features called the Lunar X and V, highlighted in the next image.

This one is of Venus showing around half phase.

Finally a very large and detailed Active Region on the Sun. It was big enough to show a a black dot when viewing the Sun with eclipse glasses. Through a decent solar scope it was amazing, about ten earth diameters across I think.

Jupiter at opposition at the moment so at its biggest and brightest. Amazingly I had a clear night last night and had some excellent views. The Great Red Spot was on show, always good to see. I managed a quick shot with my phone through the scope. Will look ok on a phone, view it from a distance on a PC otherwise it will look very grainy.

View it from a distance he says. Presumably no pun intended... 😄

Nice shootin'

Much closer to home, your path needs some weedkiller...

Sorry

I have inherited this monster, I have no use for it, it’s not been looked after, the tripod has been left outside and needs a good clean.

i don’t know if all the bits are there, as well as the big scope there is a smaller one and a box of bits.

can anyone suggest a guide price and the best place to sell it, I’m thinking of advertising it  for spares or repair. I reckon the tripod alone is worth a few bob. I have looked online at various places,  but I have not seen one like this. So I’m putting it out to the knowledgeable WSCC collective for help.

Looks like a bog standard reflector telescope you get for £100 or so new .

If its been left out uncovered its odds on the mirror has become  tarnished , which makes it pretty useless as a reflecting scope !

EDit to say , just found this on the webb

The big tube is a skywatcher 200 so around 349 new if its the basic model. In good condition about 180 second hand...

A lot will depend on the condition of the scope and in particular the mirror. It looks at least very dirty, but can’t tell if the coatings are damaged or not.

Looks like this one to me:

https://www.firstlightoptics.com/telescopes-in-stock/skywatcher-explorer-200p-eq5.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIlaeu-ZyCgwMVgoxQBh2u0w9BEAQYASABEgI45fD_BwE

Current price is around £650 new. Sadly, it looks to be in very neglected condition, so would be a heck of a punt to buy. Sorry.

Also sadly, modern Tasco aren’t a patch on what they were.

This is my latest Astro madness! It’s a 150mm Hydrogen Alpha solar telescope, which shows, amongst other things, the prominences (flares) which erupt from the limb of the Sun.

It has taken me probably 4 years from original idea to gathering all the right bits and then getting someone to build it for me. Solar observing needs to be done right, so it has the necessary energy rejection filters to avoid any fried eyeballs!

The scope will need excellent conditions to be at its best, but when that happens it should show amazing close up views. Better when the Sun is higher in the summer.

For context, the scope is about 1.5m long……
