Blatman Posted April 1, 2025 Posted April 1, 2025 Superb. Was doing a bit of stargazing myself last night. I'm in London so light pollution is a bit of a b*****r but, with a set of decent 10x50 bins I had a good view of the new moon, Jupiter, Neptune and Mars, Betelgeuse (the rest of Orion was too low) and all the ususal stars I use to track the path back to my home planet... and also a couple of satellites, one east to west (Ish), one west to east (ish), about 20 mins apart. I don't have a satellite tracker (is there a half decent free one?) so they could have been anything. Definitely too small to be the ISS though, I reckon... Quote

I have the pro version of SkySafari which is expensive but the basic version is free and worth trying. I just downloaded a free one called Satellite Tracker Pro which looks interesting and again worth trying. 1 Quote

Blatman Posted April 1, 2025 Posted April 1, 2025 I disagree with much of Elon Musks politics, but the technology stands on it's own, along with SpaceX. It's a shame he's the head of it all but I put that to one side and marvel at just what is achievable. And thanls for the tracker app suggestions. I used to have Stellarium. While I am well aware musk isn’t responsible for any of it, he just buys things and pays smart people, I can’t get past the fact that these companies fund his politics. I popped my solar scope out at lunchtime and had some decent views today, nice to be out again. Will have a look at Jupiter tonight as the Great Red Spot will be visible at around 9pm. 1 Quote
