Which to my mind would not work ( for a few reasons). But you're not a scientist. Maybe your mind isn't the one we need for this project... 😄 Sorry... 1 Quote

Stuart Davis AO - Devon Cornwall & Somerset Posted August 18, 2024 Posted August 18, 2024 The Moon is looking very orange tonight. Apparently there is a lot of smoke in the upper atmosphere, brought over on the jetstream from the wildfires in Canada. 4 Quote
Stuart Davis AO - Devon Cornwall & Somerset Posted Saturday at 21:18 Posted Saturday at 21:18 Had some great views of the partial solar eclipse this morning. Took a couple of fairly average smartphone shots through the scope. Was able to share the views with Mrs Stu and Little Stu which was fun. 1 Quote
Blatman Posted Tuesday at 09:40 Posted Tuesday at 09:40 Superb. Was doing a bit of stargazing myself last night. I'm in London so light pollution is a bit of a b*****r but, with a set of decent 10x50 bins I had a good view of the new moon, Jupiter, Neptune and Mars, Betelgeuse (the rest of Orion was too low) and all the ususal stars I use to track the path back to my home planet... and also a couple of satellites, one east to west (Ish), one west to east (ish), about 20 mins apart. I don't have a satellite tracker (is there a half decent free one?) so they could have been anything. Definitely too small to be the ISS though, I reckon... Quote
corsechris Posted Tuesday at 10:29 Posted Tuesday at 10:29 Stellarium is pretty good for free. Offers satellite tracking. No doubt plenty more out there. 1 Quote
Stuart Davis AO - Devon Cornwall & Somerset Posted Tuesday at 10:32 Posted Tuesday at 10:32 Yep, Stellarium is good. I have the pro version of SkySafari which is expensive but the basic version is free and worth trying. I just downloaded a free one called Satellite Tracker Pro which looks interesting and again worth trying. 1 Quote

Blatman Posted Tuesday at 22:04 Posted Tuesday at 22:04 I disagree with much of Elon Musks politics, but the technology stands on it's own, along with SpaceX. It's a shame he's the head of it all but I put that to one side and marvel at just what is achievable. And thanls for the tracker app suggestions. I used to have Stellarium. Not sure why I deleted it. I shall have another look Quote
corsechris Posted yesterday at 07:17 Posted yesterday at 07:17 Sadly, I just can’t do that. While I am well aware musk isn’t responsible for any of it, he just buys things and pays smart people, I can’t get past the fact that these companies fund his politics. Let’s not forget where rocketry really came from. What is it with Nazis and their rockets? Quote
