  It wasn't an easy watch and that's the main reason why I waited 4 months to watch it. The full version was a lot worse as I was trapped in the car for 42 minutes but I think watching it now after 4 months has helped me realise how far I have come and not to focus on how far I still have to go but appreciate where I am at now. I've been able to fill in a few blanks too. 

 I would be grateful of general opinions on this one please;

 The head of the motor club who hold the event where the accident happened has asked me to remove the video from youtube. He didn't ask in a nasty way it was more of a polite request and I've been in two minds on what to do? He was good enough to store my battered Westy whilst I was in hospital and drove it up country for me when I sold the remains. He also kept in close contact with my wife and she said he helped her most evenings on the phone when she was upset so I don't want to go against his request. His main reason being is that someone shared the video on Facebook and a comment was made saying the doctor shouldn't of let me move my neck incase I had a broken neck as this could of paralysed me. The doctor has been very upset by this comment apparently. This was the only negative comment and probably around 100 opposing comments praising the efforts of all of the people at the scene. The last thing I want is for the doctor to be distressed but I think the video has a place and may help people (be it competitors or medics etc) in the future.

I'd remove it, or edit the video to show the crash and your list of injuries. Compo culture as it is, I'd not want to do anything to give marshalls and medics a reason to not facilitate us to indulge in our hobby.

People will always know better on youtube and not actually be there at the moment of impact , being the apt word. I would just delete the assistance and show the crash, if you want to and say thanks for the help at the end.

I agree with Justin, although I'd leave some of the assistance in the video, too- the cool, calm care of the medics and recovery crew is great to see and reflects well on the organising team and might even provide some reassurance to other competitors

 Thanks for the advise guys. I have taken the video off youtube for the time being and maybe I'll edit just the crash another day?

 I didn't like the fact it was causing the doctor distress and he had received one or two negative comments. The last thing I would of wanted was for him to be upset and getting grief. If I knew this was going to be the case I wouldn't of posted it my intension was to show the fantastic job the people on the scene did and it never even crossed my mind that anyone would say otherwise. I did leave him an answer phone message earlier apologising and admitting it was probably insensitive to post it with out at least asking the medics in the video, I just didn't expect any negative comments at all and quite the opposite but to be fair 99% of the comments were saying how great the medics, marshals etc were 

 My comment on the Facebook page in question below;

  I was really disappointed to hear that the attending Doctor on the scene was being given a hard time by certain people on this Facebook page. As Neil said the main reason I put the video on YouTube was to show how amazing all of the people at the scene handled the situation. It is easy for someone to sit behind their keyboard and say you should of done this and done that but you weren't there and being in a situation like that must be extremely difficult for the medics and marshals involved. I'm so grateful for what they did for me and was upset to think that Stuart was distressed by the comments. The video has now been removed. If I thought for a second this would happen I wouldn't of posted it. On the other hand the good comments far outweighed the bad ones and rightfully so! Cheers Mitch

I think you can have a clear conscience here Mitch as your intentions were only ever for praise of those who attended to you in your time of need.

I can see the point of protecting the doctor - he knows better than most FB trolls after all, and was there on site. Not sure about the safety of the course though; more bales of straw at least are needed. I think your target audience (the Boardroom) has seen the clip and after that most viewers will be pruriently indulging in a bit of crash porn so they're no loss. The Youtube of my near head-on with the Audi R8 that I 'took down' is actually still there but is set to 'private' so only those to whom I give the URL can see it.

if anything the video has made me relise how gald i am ive fitted a cage and im not considering getting a hans device even just for trackdays. glad to see your on the mend. youll always get keyboard warriors who know best

 As mentioned a HANS device would of been a wise investment prior to the accident and one thing I would advise anyone who competes to have whether it be mandatory or not is a full cage and a HANS device. The cage probably saved my life and a HANS device may of prevented some of the neck pain that I am still suffering from.

 

Hi Mitch. I'm glad you are recovering but in this instance I'm not so sure a HANS device would have done that much as the impact was side on rather than head on. However, definitely better to wear one than not and when it became mandatory a few years ago for certain classes there was uproar. Now I cant envisage being without one. Good luck with the continues recovery

Have to say I haven't watched the video in full, the first minute or two were all that I could manage, once the list of your injuries came up on screen I had to stop it.

A bit late to the reply on this one, but just browsing on YouTube during this lockdown and saw this.. oh my goodness I dont think I have ever seen such a hard impact on video. I am glad he mostly recovered from his injuries..

 

Any news on his condition now a few years later? is he ok etc..

I think he sold the car (or what was left) and we havent heard much from him since unless anyone knows otherwise.
