Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted June 30, 2017 Posted June 30, 2017 Everyone who uses Photobucket to host photographs for posting into forum threads will now find it doesn't work any more! In their infinite wisdom, they have decided that the wall-to-wall advertising that has been the plague of the site recently is not enough. Now they want to charge a monthly fee of US$40 for linking your pictures to third party sites such as forums! Has anyone any recommendations for alternative, free of charge hosting sites please? IMGUR has been mentioned but there may be others. Quote
Quinten Posted June 30, 2017 Posted June 30, 2017 Imgur is free, does not require an account and easy to use. What is not to like? 1 Quote
Mark (smokey mow) Posted June 30, 2017 Posted June 30, 2017 I spotted this myself. I think I'll be ok for a couple of months as I currently pay for it but it doesn't look like the service I'm on can be renewed when the time comes so I'll have to change to a more expensive option if I want to continue using it. I'm just not prepared to pay their prices just to be able to post some pictures in the internet so I'll be stopping it at the time of renewal. @Chris King - Webmaster and Joint North East AO @Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Secretary @Andy Banks - Chairman Please note that all the images in the FAQ's I've written are hosted on my photo bucket account so will be lost at the end of July. You may want to look at hosting these on the club server and changing the links if you want any of these FAQ's to continue. I now just need to work out what the hell I'm going to do with my build thread Quote
Kingster Posted June 30, 2017 Posted June 30, 2017 Yes - same thing happened with DropBox - pretty much my entire build thread has dead links to images that I just haven't got the time or inclination to re-link. I am happy to make some space for any FAQ images you wish to use @Mark (smokey mow) - Joint Essex AO - maybe add them to a gallery and thus we can link to them? Quote
Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted June 30, 2017 Author Posted June 30, 2017 I have downloaded my entire Photobucket library in a Zip form. It's what to do with it that's the question. Imgur may get the job, I'll look at it. Quote
Andy Banks Posted June 30, 2017 Posted June 30, 2017 Definitely don't want to loose this resource so very happy to support hosting locally @Chris King - Webmaster and Joint North East AO Quote
stephenh Posted June 30, 2017 Posted June 30, 2017 Since the last big upgrade of the boardroom website, I've been able to post pictures direct from my "pictures" library on my own computer to the boardroom, so I don't both transferring photos to Photobucket anymore. Quote
pistonbroke Posted June 30, 2017 Posted June 30, 2017 I think you will find you can copy and paste to any Jpeg on your HDD / desktop to the WSCC site . Just like so ... 1 Quote
Stuart Posted June 30, 2017 Posted June 30, 2017 Quote Tinypic (don't know why that quote box is there) Quote
Thrustyjust Posted June 30, 2017 Posted June 30, 2017 I use Tinypic, but has a lot of spam junk and to be honest is pretty rubbish these days. Quote
Stuart Posted June 30, 2017 Posted June 30, 2017 I've never seen any spam etc. from it. Not a thing Quote
Peter (Monty) Posted June 30, 2017 Posted June 30, 2017 +1 for imgur, have been using it for years Quote
Dommo Posted July 1, 2017 Posted July 1, 2017 I'd forgotten just how infuriating the photobucket site was to use! Is there a way of downloading all albums at once? Quote
SootySport Posted July 1, 2017 Posted July 1, 2017 Whats going on with Photobucket? can't see my albums for adverts now. Just registered for Imgur, breathe of fresh air. Quote
