I would just like to point out for clarification that non-members: > Cannot post anything > Cannot see anything in WSCC Members Only Area and the big one in particular: > Cannot see anything in Tech Talk, FAQs, or Build Diaries, where the vast bulk of helpful knowledge is located The last one definitely cut down on non-members benefitting unfairly.8 points

This has been mentioned by me before . The amount of guests or old members using the forum on the daily for free . (Freeloaders) You see the same names on the daily who are old members (sorn) coming to view the forum . Have the admin and people incharge seriously looked into fully locking the forum down its very unfair to the paying members who pay year in year out and with the increase in the fee's I feel the freeloader numbers will increase. This morning before I started writing this on the first page of the members online out of the 30 people Only 6 were paid up members which in my eyes is shocking so is it time that something should be done about it ??5 points

If the forum is going to attract traders and sponsors then it needs to be somewhat open, since there are very few new builds progressing and a limited market of potential customers otherwise - I used to get contacted by people from all over the world that had stumbled on threads here in 'tech talk' - those contacts stopped completely when we went to 'member viewing', so it's definitely a tricky balance to strike.3 points

It's a hard balance. If we don't let non paying members see what a great forum this is, they won't be convinced to join. If I'd not joined, I'd not have been invited to go to Le Mans in 2017 by @Greenstreak-Andy D and I've had the expense of a further 5 euroblats since then. I'd be minted, If I'd not become an Alp Addict 😉 These has cost slightly more than the meagre membership fee.3 points

You have to pay. If we close everything off then I think it will mean we lose potential members. A certain amount of free to view/participate surely encourages those who are in a mind to join, whereas if it is purely “pay up or f-off” then they are more likely to stick with FacePoop. Welcome back mate 🤣3 points

And forced long old paying members to re-join and have to pay for information that they generated in the basis of being free for all. And while probably is perfectly legal, the morality of having to keep paying in the future just to have access to your own build tread is really obscure. Sorry Scott our first interaction after re-joining is a rant... but I can't shake the feeling I had when I wanted to recover the shopping list for my MNR wishbones and I couldn't do so... I hope you are well tho... I almost always liked you. :P3 points

I totally agree with this, but there's no harm in reviewing the balance between paid and free forum areas. Something that I think isn't made enough of is the fact that membership often pays for itself in insurance reductions as lots of insurance companies offer discounts for club members. D2 points

Good Lord, a man goes away for a few hours and…! I’ll try to reply as best I can. 1) Bear in mind I’m not a committee member and don’t make policy decisions any longer. I help with technical things backstage on odd occasions as I’m retired. That’s it. 2) I refer the Right Honourable Member to the Guidelines we all agreed to when we joined, specifically the last paragraph: ”Content Reuse The Club owns all forum content and reserves the exclusive right to retain, use, re-use and re-publish in part, or whole, material including text and photos, submitted to and hosted by the forum, for the benefit of its members in perpetuity. Such uses may include reposts, links to posts and publication of same in the Club's official magazine. Material posted to forum areas which are available exclusively to club members (such as in Tech Talk or FAQs) may not be disseminated, copied or shared by members outside the club, to other websites or to social media platforms.” However, if a member leaves the club and wishes a copy of their build thread, all they need do is contact the committee and a copy will be made available to them. (I’m fine thank you and hope you are the same. I almost always liked you too and never found you to be boring or lacking an opinion - which is a good thing overall.) 3) I’m not a committee member. 4) Agreed. 5) Did I say I’m not a committee member? 5) You’re not misremembering. I was trying to be brief, but people can join for free as a Trial Club Member for up to 60 days or 50 posts (whichever comes first) to see if the club is a good fit. 6) In case you missed it, I’m not a committee member.1 point

Speaking from personal experience, I joined WSCC before buying my car which I ultimately bought from an old member who is no longer a member. The car was advertised in the Cars for Sale section of the forum and I did find it before joining. I have found the forum an invaluable source of knowledge. I’d like to say it has saved me money, but the reality looking at other people’s cars and their upgrades has simply made me spend more! 🤣 There needs to be certain sections of the forum that remain ‘public’ and those that need to remain for members only. Striking that balance is the key for me.1 point

I'm not a fan of electric vehicles; I think that they are being pushed into use cases that they don't fit. In my opinion carrying around a literal tonne of ruinously expensive batteries 24/7 for an occasional trip across the country is crazy. They're much more suited to local runarounds and short commutes. However, one use case that I can see being popular would be a fun car like a westy that you take out for an occasional fun ride. I'm not sure how well electrics would fit into the diy builder area though. D1 point

Do people buy a westfield then study the forum to see if they would like It then because a member? 20 plus years ago when I purchased my first narrow westfield I brought the car from somebody my dad was doing abit of business with I hadn't even sat in the car and did I know what I was buying no ! when I went to collect the car he said ash the best thing you can do is join the wscc it's great fun you will make some great friends if you have a problem with the car they will help you out so I drove the car home and joined the wscc straight away and never really looked back but maybe I'm a little different to most people 🤔1 point

I’ve taken a dual motor tesler around Abingdon.. it was a few years back but no problems with it being run in sparks. It was by far the quickest car on the track.. But on the down side after 1 gentle lap and one spirited lap all the dash lights came on to say the brakes were to hot… I’m sure a massive Diesel generator batching out black sulfer rich red diesel smoke, I’m thinking like the fairground use on the back of an ancient AEC/Scammel/ERF could top the battery up between each lap and break cooling time..1 point

I think the "free "forum is being abused by some who are not members and if you look everyday and the same none members are online viewing the forum which in my eyes if you want to view the forum take advantage of the tech section or just want the enjoyment of reading thread's they need to GET THEIR WALLET OUT ! Because if we don't have as many paying members as possible the membership will just continue to get more expensive for the people that are fully paid up members and effectively things like the marquee at Malvern will disappear so let's get as many people paying to be a member.1 point

I love the idea of this I've just bought a high ratio diff for our road car, and will be looking to reduce the deafening cruising induction roar which quickly gets really really tiresome at current cruising revs. I think the idea of a relatively quiet westfield is fab. There's plenty of noisy ones to choose from so having the choice is excellent. I wish them well.1 point

You're a registered trader same as me, so you know how much we are paying for our memberships so I understand what you're saying and agree 90%. The other 10% of me thinks we need to allow *some* free forum use otherwise everyone will just move to facebook.1 point

Whilst it clearly isn't for everyone, as nothing ever is, I very much doubt that 95% of our cars do more than 200 miles in a day. Whilst touring and longer drives are bread and butter for some, it's only for the trip to big shows that the majority of owners would ever need a charge.l en route. Would the lack of noise and the emotive aspect of driving be a problem? I'd say this is the much bigger hurdle to EVs in the fast car world. Having been in a few quick EVs, capable of sub 4.0 0-60mph, they just wizz along and lack the sense of drama and driver involvement that an internal combustion engine and manual gearbox brings. Having said all that, I very much wish them well with it!1 point

300 miles city & 200 miles spirited - I’d need 3 + stops for city & 2 + stops for spirited - but with no orchestra playing in the background it would feel like 10 miles had taken 2 days1 point

Sorry, I'll try and plan around your schedule in future!1 point

I think they’ve lost the plot now. The time and effort doing the printed board would have been far better spent designing an actual PCB and getting one made. Prototype all the circuitry on breadboard, freeze the design, build. Given the crazy amount invested in re-inventing a really crappy version (printing solder) of an already very well designed (standard PCB) wheel just feels gratuitous. Sunken cost maybe?? Is the entire point now just YT vids??1 point

I can't open Facebook links, so can't see what this refers to, but don't forget that (Old) Westfield did build an electric Seven style car, essentially using the "normal" Westfield as a base. This would be in around the early 2010s. One actually competed in a few Speed Series events, and famously rolled at Curborough. They built 4 of them I believe, which oddly all belonged to Potenza, the parent company of (old) Westfield.1 point

Forgot to say - I’ll pop a post up in September with the menu choices and reservation details. If you want to stay over, may I suggest that early booking is essential - it was fully booked this year so get in early to avoid disappointment - we have already booked a room. Date is one week later than this year to avoid The Classic Car Show at the NEC. The Chatsworth House Christmas will be open together with their Christmas Market but you will need to be very quick to book once tickets have been released!! This is not a select group just a good location - open to any WSCC member plus guest.1 point
