Been a little quite recently been busy with some other projects/businesses. I've been installing a new autoclave oven which has taken far far longer than it should have done and like all new equipment you have to learn the inns and out but I think I've turned the corner now. So as the cold winter weather is coming maybe time to spend abit more time in the garage keeping warming playing with abit of carbon so keep your eyes open for some new projects and products.6 points

Hello, I just acquired a Westfield that a fellow imported from Japan. I’ve always wanted a 7 and it’s a very nice dark green with the full front fenders and RHD. So far I have found no one in the States that has one so I hope that when I have a question, which I am sure to have, some of you folks can help out. Great fun! Bruce (AZ7)4 points

Just catching up on this… one of the things I’ve often thought I’d like to have a go at. It’s great the club do it. Despite being in the South East corner, I’d happily sort a trailer and try and find the time throughout the year but my concern is always, mines just a road going Zetec 150hp car, and will not be competitive enough in the eligible class up against the times Duratecs etc. Reading some of the comments I hear others saying similar, if there was a novice group of some sort for general owners to compete in their “Sunday cars” that may be popular to get people involved?3 points

Hiya Paul. I am only guessing but my hunch is you will continue to receive paper copies until your membership is due for renewal, from then on you will only get the digital version, so I'd say sign up for the paper ones for £18 on your next membership renewal? That's my plan anyway mate.2 points

I'm just getting mine back on the road (after 10yrs in a garage while life got in the way and I tried to be a father to 2 little'uns), I've never competed before but I think this would be the perfect motivation for me to get it runing again for next year. I'm sure I'll have many basic questions if I did enter though........2 points

Yes, a poll here together with where we have also communicated this new 7's Series to should start to firm things up. These posts are invaluable in suggesting the things to look at so very big thanks to anyone posting. 👍👍2 points

Does that mean you may consider re-introducing similar for 2025, if there's enough interest? Why not put a poll on here to explore?2 points

I needed it. It's what every style icon is wearing. Windscreen wipers and indicators would have been good too.2 points

I have done it! so it must be easy. I have ordered my paper copies of the Westfield World magazine, they will continue to be delivered through my letterbox. I clicked on 'STORE' which is on the blue line at the top of the page. There is a box with the magazine on, I clicked it, put it in my shopping cart and, like the good wife that I am😉, I used Glen's Paypal account to pay for it (£18 for 3 copies per year). I will look forward to continue receiving real paper through the post. Remember if you don't do this then you will only get a digital version. Good luck and if you are struggling, post on here and someone much more techno than me will come along and help you.1 point

No idea why this reminds me of @Ian Kinder (Bagpuss) - Joint Peak District AO… (Not a political statement, just a bit of fun)1 point

I've investigated this and whilst we originally had 8 rounds in our Draft Regs, we added more rounds and then decided to increase the number of scoring rounds to 10, but didn't update the scoring spreadsheet. So thanks for spotting, appreciated.1 point

Yeah that is interesting, but I'd need a Calmac Ferry compliant one, or fit a nose lift. 😆1 point

I'm surprised at that given that the membership fee we have already paid includes hard copies. I guess they have to draw a line somewhere though. I can see the printed copy disappearing in time tbh.1 point

Thanks - just read the Chairman's Chat and I think that's correct, to get any more paper copies I need to buy the subscription. I renewed my CKC magazine subscription recently and due to a fault with their system I ended up getting another copy of the last edition as my first edition with the renewal. Thought I might end up making the same mistake here.1 point

At better newsagents located on shelves in between fine motoring literature and Peppa Pig Weekly1 point

Does anyone know where they stock the club magazine? 🤣1 point

That’s the Australian version, it costs £0.03 per issue but postage is £33 a year.1 point

Yes, you order the magazine separately to your membership Everyone has to do it if they still want a paper magazine delivered through the door.1 point

You are right, when I bought mine first Westfield from Belgium , got contact to shop in Netherland who was selling those side bars, will try to find it and see what the price is etc.1 point

I've got to say that until Sunday at Harewood I was unaware that the championship structure had changed in 2024 and none westfields were allowed to compete & score. based on what i can see of the calendar I can see alot of alignment with the events we are doing already and I think both Matt and I will be joining in with the 7 Speed Series next season.1 point

Everyone seems to "take the ahem" out of my brilliant storage facility. But just look at how useful it's been over 3 days at the Newark show this weekend. 1, camping box, 2, cake table, 3, pizza table, 4, 2 man seat. Other possible uses, Beer table, Hiding bodies, Keeping a small dog in, The list is endless. Where would we be without it?1 point

I bought it! Drove home 1hr 45min in the dark on the motorway last night which was interesting! Love the car, it does have a few very small niggles which I’m looking forward to addressing once I’ve finished re-concreting my garage. Will post some pics soon, in the meantime this is a bad photo of me stopping for fuel!1 point

Im with Howdens and when I went to look at a Westfield I might buy, they suggested I do this. Take out a policy on the car I was going to see - This allowed me to drive it on a test drive, and if I liked it allowed me to drive it home. If I didnt like the car I had 28 days to cancel the insurance and would get a full refund. They did, however, say they also did temporary cover though - which is different from the message you are getting. Are you all lready a polidy holder with them? I have to say, I have always found them immensely helpful1 point

As as seller I would be very reluctant to do this. if the potential buyer does have an accident resulting in a claim then I’d be looking at increased premiums on all my cars for the next few years.1 point

Reviving an old thread by updating it and condensing it down… #1: Any thread that is started where the author requests an opinion as to whether or not something they do or have done voluntarily is right or wrong, will end with the author concluding they were right, no matter how strongly the majority who gave said requested opinion disagree with the author's point of view. #2: Any thread where the author states they are looking to purchase a tintop and then lists the cars they are willing to consider, will end after considerable debate, further models not on the list being suggested, and the author buying something utterly different from anything discussed or not purchasing a car after all and sticking with their current transport. #3: Any thread that is more than three pages long will end with a subject totally different to the subject that started the thread. #4: If a thread asks for a serious opinion it will not receive it - moreover, if the word "serious" apears in the title, it is open season for silly answers. #5: When asking if option A or B is the better, the answer will always be that options C to Z are infinitely superior (depending on the respondent's deep seated fears and prejudices). #6: Whatever the subject, no matter how well thought out and reasoned the subject matter is, someone will take the diametrically opposed view just to be contrary. #7: Asking what your car is worth will always cause issues and invariably will not end well. #8: Threads including references to unconventional dashboard instrument arrangement can only end in one way (see @Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman). #9: There are more build diaries started than finished. #10: If you, presumably with the knowledge that you're mechanically incompetent, cack-handed, or just not interested in the oily side of things, make the simple mistake of asking about good garages / mechanics for Westfield related service work, prepare to duck and cover as the outrage at not "doing it yourself, it's easy" pours forth. #11: Any thread mentioning the word "Pinto" will also include the words "mighty", "anchor" and / or “boat”. #12: Threads asking which engine is best will only result in complete disagreement. #13: Threads arguing whether which of BECs or CECs are best will never be resolved. #14: In any thread that mentions driving a Westfield in poor weather conditions, those who don't will only say that those who do are "mental", and those who do drive in poor weather may only refer to everyone else as "wimps". #15: Whatever the tricky problem and no matter how many solutions are offered, the author with the problem will never come back and tell the members what was the actual solution to the problem was, leaving everyone following the thread wondering forever. #16: All Westfields for sale were built by retired engineers and were never driven on a track or in the rain. #17: Any claims to bhp figures, no matter how credible, will always be met with scepticism by other members unless supplied by an approved Westfield tuner and even then, those figures will have doubt cast upon their accuracy by members with identical engines producing less power. #18: Any member who starts a contentious thread that gets so out of control that it requires Moderator intervention will shortly afterwards post another thread entitled, “Where did my thread go?”. #19: Any post seeking to correct the grammar or spelling of a previous post will contain a grammatical or spelling error. #20: Using the Search facility will result in getting you so sidetracked looking at other interesting threads that two hours later, you will have forgotten what you were searching for to begin with. #21: An engine problem thread started in Tech Talk will invariably fail to state one or more of the following: engine type, engine size, or carbs or throttle bodies, distributor or ECU type, but will mention the age and condition of the battery. #22: The Westfield you really want to buy will inevitably be at the farthest geographical point away from your home, ie. you live in Aberdeen and the car you want to buy is in Cornwall. #23: When you buy your Westfield and arrive to drive it home, the weather forecast of bright sunshine will instantly change to thunderstorms, pouring rain, hail, and ten degrees colder. You may add your own below, remembering to number them for everyone’s future reference. (Please note that I reserve the right to edit as necessary or if it's not in keeping with the spirit of the thread - thank you.)1 point

Addition to #16 any Westfield sales advert must start with the phrase “it is with a heavy heart” and include the words “much loved”1 point

Welcome! The odometer part of electronic speedo is ridiculously common and entirely believable. Looks to be a tidy, well specc’d car from the photos. It also falls under the Westfield Truisms list: #22: The Westfield you really want to buy will inevitably be at the farthest geographical point away from your home, ie. you live in Aberdeen and the car you want to buy is in Cornwall. And after you get it: #23: When you buy your Westfield and arrive to drive it home, the weather forecast of bright sunshine will instantly change to thunderstorms, pouring rain, hail, and ten degrees colder. Good luck!1 point

I've always kept all my cars clean and shiny, and the Westfield is no different. It's always put away clean, so it's in pristine condition for when it next comes out of the garage. Some may laugh, but I find it therapeutic. There's a process to go through, and it allows me to switch off whilst I'm doing that. Regarding the Westfield specifically, I had the same question as the OP to start with about 'how'! I tend to carefully wash it in sections so as not to soak anything too much with the hose etc. Current favourite products are a mix of Gyeon and Gtechniq.1 point

To be honest, I'm not sure that the economics of buying a 'new' kit car really make sense any more. It used to be a cheap way of getting into performance motoring, but that's not really true now. If I was in charge of the new Westfield, I think that I'd be putting my effort into supporting the existing cars with spares, repairs, upgrades, servicing, service kits, advice, and maybe update modules for more up to date things like modern engines, gearboxes, ECUs, LED lights, carbon parts, that sort of thing. A cracking day out to the Racer Cafe , 270 miles of fun, leaving just before 8am with a lovely sunrise behind us, we met Barry at aviemore then across laggan to spean bridge onto Ballahulish and then to the cafe where we were joined by Gordon and his family. We were welcomed by wayne who showed us his westy and then took care of us as we warmed up in the cafe. This really is a definite visit in the summer , Suitably fed , watered and warmed up, and a few pictures taken we said our goodbyes and headed for home refuelling at fort William , at spean bridge Barry headed north whilst we headed back over laggan to aviemore and home, getting home just before 5pm. Thanks all who made it today 👍1 point
