Please find below the 2024 Speed Series Calendar, it's taken quite a while to get to and there has been a lot of discussion about which events to go to as a Championship. We need to ensure that we get a reasonable number of our competitors attending any specific event for it to remain on the Calendar ie 5 or more competitors. For 2024, some events that didn't reach that have still been included, but they will be up for review at the end of the Year if we have a poor attendance. If you favourite event is not on here, then you should still be able to go as membership of WSCC and our Motorsport UK membership / affiliation with Regions means that you have a good chance of your entry being accepted by the Event Organisers. There is a PDF with the dates you can download. After 17 (to dispatch and 20 to recive ) weeks of waiting today recived my Halfhood and Storm cup from Soft Bits for Seven ( wrr for duty I need to pay although there should be no duty tax for items "made in UK" but, reality is different, not first time. Anyway quality looks realy nice, solid material etc zips, velcro, nice bags, hope it will allow us for more days in Westfield next season! (if I manage how to get in and out, but hope openings with zip allow for that as in open car (or almost?) Sadly, right now maybe not best time to try 😕4 points

OK, Dont laugh, but I have reasonably succesfully used heavy duty bathroom scales (that go up to 250Kg). I weigh each corner at a time, ensuring its all completely level (use wooden height adjusters / planks on the 3 wheels not being weighed). Real cheapscate solution (scales are £20 from amazon). Happy to be ridiculed, but for a rough guide I have found it pretty good... (Waits for incoming.....!)3 points

Yes Caldwell is on my list, another that will be new to me. Looking forward to next year.2 points

Although I won't be there I think this is the most challenging and exciting track I have ever driven and you drive it both ways for 2 laps so I recommend people try it2 points

Yes, I'd really like to have another go. A fantastic circuit. It would help if you could publish a best guess calendar so I can reserve the weekends!2 points

Meet at Quackers 10am before going for a run out finishing nicely at The Crispin for 12.30. The current weather forecast is good so who is joining us?1 point

i can also personally vouch for both Cadwell and Knockhill, both great tracks to drive - worth making the effort, I will certainly be at Cadwell - you just need to do those jobs on the car now, the event will be here before you know it!1 point

I’m up for this, subject to a couple of mechanical checks I’ll be there! Cheers1 point

Never overlook the humble bathroom scale! My dad has used a set of old school analogue scale to do corner weighting for as long as I can remember, and it seems to have been working pretty well all these years! He has some 'fancy' wooden frames built around them, even has little holes so you can turn the zero-ing wheel!1 point

It's one of the difficulties of running a National Championship. Hopefully we can see an increase in the number of competitors that gives us higher numbers at each event. But in your case more in the Midlands will hopefully help. I saw your interested in Knockhill, it's a great track and somewhere you have to experience at least once 😉. Like Caldwell Park another personal favourite of mine.1 point

Yes thanks Nick I did read it, just thought I would comment on the fact it's not on the calendar, unfortunately I get the impression that a lot of competitors restrict there events to the area around where they live, ie the Midlands, and won't travel great distances to compete. Unfortunately I have no choice as I live on the south coast, where the ferry sails from to the Isle of Whight and so every event is a distance, Gurston is my nearest but next year I intend to go even further afield and enter Knockhill.1 point

That was exactly why I put one on mine with the traditional style body, and swept front wings. It just finished off the back, and visually balanced the car, nicely.1 point

60 plate is F25. We've got a 2017 F25 30d with 57k on it. Cracking car. Auto box is ZF and AFAIK bomb proof. BMW claim they're sealed for life but ZF say they need servicing at 60-70k and service is expensive - around £600. It's been recalled twice for replacement of exhaust gas recirculation valve. Rear diff output oil seal has needed replacing due to leak which I think is common and a £300+ job as it means drive shaft out which involves rear suspension removal. It's usually only a very slow weep so I think often gets left until car sold so watch for that. It has had a rear wheel bearing go noisy and need replacing - common on high mileage cars (but not at 50k) according to my independent service guys and cheap enough to replace. Oil filters are paper ones and I have read that unless they're decent quality they can disintegrate which means a new housing, but we haven't had that problem. Set of decent run flats will cost you close to a grand but they're good for 28-30k miles. You can switch to non run flats but I have kept them as it's the Mrs. who drives it most. Haven't towed with it.1 point

This caught my eye today - it didn't sell, so you could always make an offer... https://www.historics.co.uk/buying/auctions/2023-11-25/cars/ref-142-1955-lotus-mk-vi-ebs/ From the blurb: 1977-2009 Chris Smith of Westfield Cars raced extensively winning the AMOC Sports Car Trophy in 1979 and competing at the 2001 Goodwood Revival.1 point

Thanks Mark, hopefully a good year and some more Midland based dates. I think 2009 was very much a one off, the car unfortunately was written off in 2019 by the owner I sold to. Besides, your never as fast as you remember you were1 point

Some good weekends there 👍 are you going to be back at Mallory to break your record Nick 👍 😉1 point

Since taking over from Terry I've been busy with the SSOT looking at a 2024 Calendar, one event which we have the opportunity to visit is Knockhill on 7th & 8th September, but before adding it, want to make sure there is enough interest, ie 4 to 5 competitors at least. The price is £ 375 for the weekend. If this would be of interest please reply confirming, there is no commitment to go at this stage. Thanks1 point

Thanks everyone for your replies, I have also had some other competitors express an interest to me in going who are relatively close. So on that basis our Championship will go in 2024. It's a fantastic circuit and because it's run in both directions that really adds some variety to it. An absolute must do Track, I've been going since 2004 when I was competing in my Megabusa, great fun. 👍1 point

I would if I could but I can’t. Couple of reasons - I need to get the venue ready for our Christmas dinner and as I’m bringing Clare I need to be in the big car!! Hope you have a good turnout and I’ll try and keep the front car park at The Crispin ready for you.1 point

I think they look superb mate. With the blue & carbon, I reckon they stand out. That’s why I wanted Minilites with black centre & diamond cut alloy rim to break up the full black wheels. But think I’m going for the Pro-Race 1.2’s gloss black on my yellow SEight with a change to black cycles, windscreen & roll-bar. Hope we meet up in the new year to have a catch up. 🙏👍1 point

Hi guys. Still 4 spaces available. Even if you have not met up yet it would be a great ice breaker prior to next years excitement. Cheers Martin1 point

I pulled into the garage after a quick blast round the back roads and realised that I could see my feet. I didn't realise that I had illuminated footwells! But then I started thinking: had I always had illuminated footwells? I honestly couldn't remember. Why would a car as simple as a Westfield have a feature so Max Power? And if it did, wouldn't it be an offputting colour like lilac? This needed investigating. It stayed on with everything bar the ignition. Not a single switch on the dash made a difference. Weird, weird. A bit of gymnastics got my head into the footwell. Yep, there's a bulb under there. I need a bit more space to figure it out. Maybe if I put the handbrake off for more wiggle room.......... I'm really ashamed at how long it took me to figure out that the handbrake warning light had fallen out of the bulb holder.
