Thanks @Flying Carrot Steve. What issues have you experienced? My (new to me this May) car is on the drive as it's the only current option & I'm quite concerned about corrosion over the winter. The brake discs are already looking pretty orange after ~3 weeks without driving. Happy to take this to DM or another thread, if appropriate, considering the topic of this one. To bring us back to topic here's mine, as ended up yesterday, waiting for the shocks to come off and go back to Nitron for service after one allowed all of its oil escape.1 point

Weather forecast was brilliant for Sunday if not slightly wrong. Instead of clear sunshine as promised, we left home at 7.15am in fog! Still nothing was going to dampen our spirits. Met up with @si_salisbury and newby Gary at Markham Moor services A1 en route to Quackers. Arriving at Quackers just before 10, there were no other Westies in the car park but soon this swelled to 9 (bit of a relief for a trainee leader). Good to see even more first timers and we sincerely hope that they had a great time and will come again. After a good chat, a sausage roll or cake, we left on a round trip for about an hour, ending up at Chatsworth Garden Centre - might appear to be a strange place to aim for but it has a large car park and an excellent restaurant. Great to find @Chris Emm waiting for us in the car park. At this point we had 7 as a few had decided that they needed to go back home. After a hearty lunch we moved on for cake to the Wetton Tea Rooms - about 45 minutes drive through some lovely Peaks countryside. By this point there were only four ( @aeg couldn’t find reverse gear to park in the car park ) Westfields but plenty of cake was consumed. Most of the cake was eaten by Becky - no idea how she does it. This left me with a trip home of nearly 2 1/2 hours arriving home at 6.15pm but by now the sun was out and it was brilliant. Pleased you all seemed to have a good day. Our esteemed entertainment manager @Julie Hall - WSCC AO Representative is back from holiday next week so the batten of responsibility is returned to her. Great to meet up with everyone this morning, big thanks to @AndrewBClarke for organising 👍 I left home early to head to our normal pre meet location where unusually I was the only Westfield in the village 😂 Heading north, traffic was amazingly quiet! With no convoy in tow, zero traffic and my favourite B5023/5012/5056 route ahead of me meant one thing.... if you know, you know! 😉😇1 point

Last update of the year. progress has slowed a bit recently as a change of career and the cold weather has meant I’ve not made it out to the workshop quite so often. I was fortunate to source a set of the correct Dunlop CR65 Tyres in the right size second hand, they’ve got some age to them and probably not ideal for serious racing but at 1/10th the price of a new set they’ll be fine for setting up the geometry and getting everything rolling and pointing in the right direction. For now I’ve put these onto a set of minilites till I work out what to do with the JA Pearce Magna’s. with the car now at a rolling stage and with not much more to bolt on other than the bodywork I decided to give e it a weigh, 105kg on the front axle, 140kg on the rear giving a dry weight of 245kg and 57/43% across the axles. over Christmas I hope to get the firewall in and the fuel system finished I still need to fit the pump and filter, as well as terminate all the electrics at the rear. There might be a pause after that as the final job I’ve been putting off for a long while is the bodywork. I’ve started stripping back the layers of filler and paint revealing it’s original gold colours from the Racing Car Show. There’s also a lot of damage that needs repairing, so I need to find somewhere experienced with aluminium bodywork and probably also wheeling. Before that can happen though I also need to buy a bigger trailer that the car will fit on. A couple of pictures to finish1 point

This thread is long overdue an update but the truth is that very little progress has been made over the last 6 months. With Covid restrictions in place and the inevitable impact this and furlough have had on many of the local businesses I’ve been using I found it easier to leave it until matters improved. Before things were put on pause one major job that I did compete was a full trial assembly of the car with all the parts. I wanted to do the as a) I had no idea how it went together and b) I had no idea if I had all the bits. Well it’s complete and aside from a couple of small questions along the way most of it seems to be there and fit as if expect. As for the questions well one of the rear trailing arms is half an inch longer than the other, no idea why as the chassis mounts are in the same location so I suspect it’s just lazy welding and the other is that I’m missing most of the coolant hoses from the front of the car so need to figure how this crosses the pedal box. Over the Christmas break I’ve been looking into the Roll hoop, this is only 1” diameter tube so has got to go. A replacement hoop has been drawn up so I’m now at the stage of getting prices for this to be fabricated and fitted. For now just a plywood mockup to show. The other major milestone is that I’ve sourced a suitable engine for the car. I’d originally looked at getting something built as the spec required for this car would be scarce to say the least. By chance I spotted an advert that sparked my interest and after an exchange of emails the deal was done. The engine in question was built by George Bevan for the imp touring car. For those who no their Imps the Bevan Imp raced to victory in 3 years running from 1970-72 in the British saloon car championship at the hands of Bill McGovern. This engine was the spare from that very car and I bought it directly from the Bevan family so can attest it’s provenance. The spec is as good as it gets, 998cc, R23 steel full race cam (9200rpm) ported and polished head with wills rings, lightened rods and balanced crank all of which takes the power from the stock 39bhp to a conservative estimate of 110bhp based on period data.1 point
