A couple of videos of the car at Donington. The lightweight R1 engined MNR and the heavy MegaS2000 (with a fat old bloke behind the wheel) are quite evenly matched 👍4 points

A great day, thoroughly enjoyed the visit, thanks Rob! As for MacG Racing, an impressive setup there, and their knowledge and enthusiasm shines through. Knowledge of Westfields and similar is great too, especially the race prep knowledge. Based off conversations had there today, I'd certainly give them a go for geo set up's etc.3 points

The "few of us" ended up as 8 Westfields, 2 Ferrari replicas, an MK, a Racecorp V8, an Elise and a TVR! And that was just for breakfast! 👏 Nice to see some of the Burton Car Club guys out with their lovely motors. After a lovely "all you can eat" breakfast (I won't need to eat all weekend 😂) we headed off in convoy. Landing at MacG we found Dave, Ian and Andy already there, the car park was full of stunning cars.... It was great to old friend (and ex Westfield owner) Steve there too in his beautiful Noble in prime position, flanked by a Ferrari 400i and an Ultima. Huge thanks to the MacG guys who had put on a fantastic welcome, with tea and coffee laid on with a huge array of cakes and danishes! Their operation is even more impressive, with excellent road and race car preparation, chassis set up and parts sales department. While they are very well known and highly respected in the Ultima community, they also have experience of our cars (Westfield, MK and GBS) and can supply 13" and 15" wheels (4x100 and 4x108 in various offsets), shocks, springs and do full chassis set up, geo and corner weighting. A very successful morning, not only a great car meet in its own right but we have also met a new company with the ability to help with our specialised and beloved motors. They are a great bunch of guys too 👍3 points

I will do. My kids are super excited to watch. We went to the Red Bull Soapbox race at Alexandra Palace earlier this year and had a great time.1 point

Was almost going to be there, then the sun appeared, then we went to the pub next to where our boat was moored…. Have a great day all and see you next time.1 point

Only a couple of weeks to go until race day, so today I went to check out the competition at the Bury St Edmunds soapbox race. there was the usual variety of builds on display from the very simple I love the shoe on a handle for the brake To the much more adventurous. The team from Sealey tools had really gone to town building a full roll cab compete with pull out drawers and tool kit. The best costumes were dastardly and muttley This meccano build looked great too1 point

Not much progress to show for the last couple of weeks as I’ve been very busy with work but I did manage to get the screen finished and some colour on the bodywork. my pushing team suggested I needed something a bit bolder than plain red so I’ve gone for a bright camo vinyl wrap. there’s a few bits to finish on the nose cone before it’s fitted but I’m almost there and ready for testing.1 point

With the nose complete it was fettled to the final shape and offered up to the chassis. An aluminium bracket was made to fix it to the top of the chassis and a Dzus fastener fitted. The bottom is secured in a similar way with a Dzus fastener through the floor. the back of the bonnet will be fixed with slide fasteners.1 point

The last major task is the nose cone. I must confess I’ve been putting this off and it’s been redesigned more times than any other part of the racer. My first thoughts were to fabricate from steel or aluminium since they’re materials I’m happiest with but eventually I settled on fibreglass since it would allow me to introduce sone curves. First job was to make a buck. As I’d already drawn the nose in 3D in Solidworks I made some prints of the profile at 50mm intervals to give the general form. these I then to roughly cut the shapes from 50mm thick insulation. Rye four layers of this were then glued together to roughly form the nose. Once the glue dried these were then cut to the final shape and then sanded to the finished profile. Onto the buck I then applied 2-3 layers fibreglass resin and chopped mat. I’ve not done much with fibreglass so the end result was looking somewhat lumpy but generally what I hoped for. Much like my skills at plastering walls it needed plenty of sanding to remove the high spots and then I gave it another light brush over with resin to fill any holes. the insulation was then cut out from the inside leaving the finished nose cone.1 point

Back on it again this week. Looking at the bonnet I felt it didn’t quite look complete and needed a small windscreen. I cut and folded a strip of aluminium to make a mounting and then ran it through the rollers to put a slight curve on it to match the profile of the bonnet. I then used a scrap piece of aluminium to mock up a small screen and get a shape I liked. once happy I then cut the screen from 2mm polycarbonate and riveted it to the aluminium mount.1 point

I'm a boring git, I prefer the non-stickered look.1 point

If you extended that box filter forwards, into some of that unused space over the cockpit, above the roll bar, you could have both a convenient way of keeping dry/out of the sun, delete as applicable, and have invented the first Luton bodied Westfield!1 point
