  1. Just in case anyone is interested, I’m planning on getting to Quackers, Bakewell, DE45 1NY for about 9.45am to have a look at the Lotus Club cars which are due to meet up there. After I am planning to move on the the Tatenhill Airfield open day DE13 9PD arriving there at about 12 noon. Big Bro is ‘up the tower’ at Tatenhill so no free flights at this event - sorry!! If anyone would like to join in at either or both events, you would be more than welcome.

  4. Last year’s Newark show was the first for years and was organised very late with little time to plan. Even then, the stands were much better than expected and turnout reasonable. It has potential to be really good and as far as I know, lots more people are planning to attend. From the show organisers (Grosvenor Shows) point of view, if large numbers attend this will then attract more trade stands and year on year it will get better. In the meantime, let’s make it as good as we can as this will be better for everyone. For people that may need to travel further, the Premier Inn is walkable and if you need more entertainment, the Newark Air Museum is next to the showground For one, I am looking forward to it.

  11. Hello All, July is just around the corner and we've had some great Westfield weather, not sure what it's going to be like on Sunday though hopefully better than the black clouds and pending downpour we had for the last meet. The July Black Country meet is due to be held this Sunday. Hope to see a few of there for a chin wag and tyre kick. Thanks Rhett 7pm, 2nd July at the Dudley Arms, Himley. DY3 4LB.

  14. I’m apparently meant to be painting the bedroom this week so that means less time to work on the cars. The postman did however deliver the flexi brake lines today so those have now been fitted. I need to pick up a bottle of brake fluid when I’m next out and then I can bleed the brakes. I seem to be having a nightmare time sorting a set of bike tyres. nowhere I contacted seems to be answering emails or returning phone messages. I’ve finally ordered a set online only to have the fitting cancelled an hour before as they hadn’t been delivered to them in time. I was promised a call back today with a revised fitting date but so far nothing 😡

  15. Front uprights assembled. The axles are a kart part I sourced which happened to have the right 17mm diameter for the moped hubs. They just needed a few washers to space them correctly for the callipers. I’d previously stripped the hubs down, removed the seals and flushed out the original grease, this I then replaced with oil to reduce the rolling resistance.

  16. A couple more hours after work tonight and I got the steering rack cut down to the right length, new threaded ends welded on and then fitted to the car. I then spent a bit of time getting the front camber set and the toe-in to zero. To make this easier I clamped a couple of lengths of steel to the front uprights and then measured off both sides of the chassis till everything was parallel. Final job before I had to stop and cook dinner was to swap out all the plain nuts on the suspension for nyloc’s and tighten them all up.

  17. After giving the chassis a lick of paint, today I’ve mostly been riveting. I didn’t count how many but that’s a lot of holes drilled and then the chassis panelled. it’s starting to look like a Westfield 🤣

  18. I honestly didn’t think this day would come, but it’s time for a change, so my beloved Westy is up for grabs. Built by myself in 2014 and registered in 2015 on Q with all the advantages that bestows, it has been extensively upgraded during the last 8 years, as many on here will no doubt know! The car has 15,920 miles on it, with 700 of those in June this year hooning around the highlands. It was MOT’d earlier this month with no advisories (expires June 2024). As well as several highland flings, the car has been around the Alps and completed more than a few trackdays, so it really is a fabulous all-rounder. This car has never been one for gentle Sunday drives to the cake shop and it is certainly not a “show car” - expect to see signs of use! However, it is an absolute joy to drive fast and although it will suit someone who is into blatting around twisty country lanes and trackdays, as I have proved, it is certainly a very capable ‘grand tourer’ if you are up for it. With 378bhp per tonne, it goes very well (555kg @ 209.7bhp) The current spec: Engine and Drivetrain: 2.0 litre Blacktop Zetec (new crate engine 2016) on throttle bodies with Dunnell ZRV Cams mapped to 180.9 bhp at the wheels (209.7bhp crank) by Daytuner in Harrogate, runs like an absolute dream!
