Just introducing myself having rejoined recently. I originally joined years ago but never posted anything, so here goes… When I was in my early twenties, I bought myself a little Westfield SEi 1.6 X-Flow with money I earned from my first job. It was my only car for quite a few years, and I drove it in all conditions, including snow which was quite lively. I made a few changes to it, fitting a Vulcan 138bhp 1.7l Ford X-Flow which perked it up a bit. We had many adventures together, including driving it up to North Wales for a stag do in fairly trying conditions. It was always a lovely car to drive, but cosmetically quite shabby and needed a few bits sorting which I never got round to. I kept the car for 16 years until one evening someone (a car with three yoofs in it) pulled out in front of me from a lay-by as I crested the brow of a hill, albeit at a fair old lick. They were clearly up to no good as they rapidly disappeared from the scene of the accident, leaving me to pick up the pieces. The car had a fair amount of damage, including a bent frame, and I ended up selling it to a mate of mine who just happens to be a very talented mechanic; building Bowler rally cars being his job for quite a few years. Anyway, he set to work and over a period of a few years completely rebuilt the car to its current lovely state. It may have been posted up on here before but I’m not sure. He has had it for about 14 years, but wanted to shift it on and given its sentimental value, as well as its potential for fun (!) I was not able to resist the temptation to buy it back. The biggest challenge was it being up on the Llyn Peninsula. I sorted getting a tow bar fitted and and hired a trailer from Gloucester to bring it back on. I set out at 6am on Thursday, picking the trailer up at 8am, then headed up to Wales which took about 4.5 hours through beautiful countryside which I’m sure many of you have enjoyed in your cars. A couple of hours to rest and load up and I was on my way, back to my parent’s house in Wokingham where it will stay for a couple of months until I clear my garage in Somerset and bring it down. I got back at 8.45pm, so it was a pretty long day, and my already poor trailer reversing ‘skills’ were sorely tested getting the car onto the drive 🤪. My poor Mondeo clutch was smelling pretty bad by the end of it! I headed home to Somerset yesterday afternoon and conveniently was able to drop the trailer near home. As my forum name suggests, I am currently a sizeable chap (with aspirations to slim down 🤣), so a narrow bodied SEi is likely not the most sensible choice. However, I love the small size, weight and minimalism of these cars and I was delighted to find that I fitted it ok, albeit having taken the seat out! I’ll have to find a suitable pad for the interim until I reach my fighting weight and can refit the seat. Anyway, if you made it this far, thank you. Hopefully I can make contact with some of you local to Somerset and perhaps meet up. The first two pictures are from 2007. My son is now nearly 21 and taller than me 😃. I said to a friend when I told him I was buying it back that it was my mid life crisis car. He replied, that’s not a MLC, that is true love, and I guess it is. I couldn’t face it potentially disappearing off to France and being lost to me. Stu11 points

This is such a sad situation. My 250 Sport kit was ordered in mid December and they supplied most of the kit in a really short space of time, yes I had to wait for certain parts to arrive, the only part I did not have after the announcement was the exhaust link pipe/cat. I contacted Birchills Automotive who supplied Westfield , last Monday who had what I needed on the shelf and got it on Tuesday.7 points

Not, I hasten to add a subtle way of me telling you I've bent something!! Though the information is hidden away in other threads, I just thought I'd make specific mention here. If you're in the unfortunate position of having an accident involving your Westfield, in these uncertain times, you obviously cannot go to the factory. However, we would strongly advise contacting Andy or Dennis at Siltech racing, details below. I could say that with the factory not operating currently, they're the next best thing, but to be brutal it was probably always the other way round, the factory was probably always the next best thing to Siltech! Siltech have done major accident damage repair for the racers and sprinters, as well as road cars, and have huge knowledge and experience with Westfields. https://www.siltechracing.com Main number: 01362 820456 Andy Silman: 07912 219642 Dennis Silman: 07516 716053 - they have a complete car of body panels (including a tub) - which have their own design touches and are outside any possible IP issues connected to the factory. They also have a long and brilliant history of producing some amazing fabricated and machined parts for Westfields, including, but not limited to: wide track front suspension, modified rear micro adjustable suspension, Big brake kits, including a replacement front upright/big brake kit. Anti roll bars, chassis fabrication work and chassis damage repairs, fabricated parts and CNC made parts. And they really know Westfields. Additionally, as per the other thread, on help while the factory is in administration, both Tiger Racing and MK Sports cars (Via their Kit Car Direct arm) are both able to carry out fabrication and repair work on the chassis etc.6 points

Carbon zk nose Put some graft into this in the last 48 hours but the tooling is now complete! These are a mega style nose which have a deeper lower section to accommodate a oil cooler these fit in an identical way to a standard Zk nose Normally sketch with me Prepreg so light and strong this one in the picture has been clear coated but available uncoated for the more serious peddler who is looking to save every gram .4 points

First time in almost two months that the car has been out of the garage, and before I rip out the interior for a re-refresh I spent 30 mins having a run out. The local parkland areas were packed out so these were taken at a local leisure area. Was shocked to find my usual rubbish handbrake actually held the car here, the photo doesn't show the slope well but it was quite steep. I did leave it in reverse while taking the photos ( just in case) And you surely can't get anymore British in a photo than a Westy and a good old game of cricket..4 points

After much faffing about, changing days, routes etc. we managed 6 people, 3 cars and 1 bike. Meeting at the Motorist at 10 am, I was immediately insulted by the marshall telling me that there were some other Caterhams over there, when I told him "it's a Westfield", "sorry, nice colour" was his reply. Des'n'Debs and John were waiting for me, and after fixing my indicator we set off to meet Roger and Judy at Seaways cafe in Fridaythorpe then on to the NY500 for breakfast. From there, on to Pickering then Scarborough, missing Whitby (too far) and down the east coast passing through Filey and stopping off in Sewerby, parking up and having a walk down the coastal path. Fuel stop in Bridlington and down to Hornsea for fish and chips. We went posh, sitting inside, not eating them from the paper. It was then time to head for home before the rain came. Setting the satnav for "home" and avoiding motorways, I made it missing the rain. A long days driving, around 180 miles, but a good one. Thanks to @Breakable?and Debs, @Never Too Oldand Judy and @Barnsley John for coming along. See you on the next one.3 points

That is an interesting fact although it is one I try not to dwell on, otherwise I would never drive my car around on the great big circular road to nowhere. It does, however, help to achieve my aim of dying penniless😮2 points

From the Oops! storybook: VW decided to do a range of UP! models in basic colours and name that accordingly, ie, Red UP!, Blue UP!, White UP!, etc. until someone pointed out to them that it might not be appropriate to name a car “Black UP!” Budget please?2 points

I think Putin has been influencing gas/oil prices for a while now, in preparation for his latest bit of imperialism. I suspect his hope was to distract the world with high fuel prices so he could just carry on without interruption. Take look at how he has been messing with OPEC+, and of course, let's not forget just how happily the rest of OPEC would take western money coming from inflated prices while they control output. I'd pay £5 /L if that's what it takes to beat Putin. Small price to pay for freedom from fascism.1 point

There lies a tail Julie, I went to look at it with possibly the intention to buy it back. I felt sick when I saw the state it was in, it wasn't a patch on what it used to be, the engine still sounds great and started first kick after being stood for a couple of weeks but it's overall condition was shocking.1 point

Yeah, I think that's a hold over from the days before Auto Windscreens became just another hang 'n bang company and actually used to have their own stuff made.1 point

Unless you have deep pockets, get something cheap, slow and safe.... My 2 eldest had cheap £1k shopping trolleys, slow as a glacier on a frosty morning and pretty much disposable when they inevitably broke or bent them (which they often did 😂). Getting a phone call to come and tow a car home has happened more than once... One time I arrived to find chunks of gearbox casing, cogs and teeth liberally sprinkled down the road following a full send, 3rd to 2nd, "money shift" 😂. Another, it was to tow a little Fiat out of a ploughed field... after the usual "diesel on the road" excuses, it transpired he was attempting to beat his speed record round a particular bend and discovered lift off oversteer 😂1 point

Can well believe this. I could get similar IF I tried on a long cruise, but could also drop to sub 12mpg on a track day.1 point

I did a 508 mile circuit of Wales Weds/Thurs with two other 7s. My 1.8 Zetec Westy amazingly returned 42mpg 😯1 point
-
I just ran the figures and if I matched 4230 miles per year it would cost me around £2280 a year in super unleaded at current prices, and that is based on my average MPG of 16! I think I might be a challenger for the least miles covered at the moment, although I did just do a 28 mile blast round the Matlock, Chatsworth, Curbar route that I like to do of an evening and used half a tank (spirited driving so somewhere around 8MPG).1 point

Afternoon all, Nick here from TigerRacing, due to unfortunate events it’s with great sadness that Westfield has gone into administration, even though it’s a competitor it’s always sad to see company’s in this industry go under especially a company as big as Westfield. That being said we also understand the great stress owners / builders of westfields will now be under. So here at Tiger we’d like to extend a helping hand to anyone with a Westfield who’s struggling for bits or parts, MOT’s or anything else. We know the fall out from this is going to affect many enthusiasts and we don’t like to see the community struggle. King regards, The Tiger Racing team1 point

It comes to something when the WSCC is more cash fluid than WSC Ltd - and no, I’m not proposing the club buys WSC Ltd.1 point
-
Watch out for a pre pack management buyout? They will have struggled for the last two years as people could not try to buy so it does indeed appear cash flow has killed it. It sort of explains the lack of focus some mentioned against the likes of MK. I hope the guys get jobs as soon as possible as no one wants this to happen1 point
-
Oh my 😮 So glad I've got my order sorted last month. Really hope someone passionate takes over the kitcar stuff (cough cough MK cough cough)1 point
-
Not sure you need to be registered for the SS to compete here, just membership of WSCC used to be sufficient....but then i'm a dinosaur and things change......1 point
