Meet at Tagg Lane Dairy, Bakewell, DE45 1JP, 10am. We have been today to find the toilets are back open and you can even sit inside. On the menu is cake, ice cream, cake and ice cream, panninis, toasted tea cakes, did I mention cake and ice cream? oh, cake and ice cream are on the menu. Afterwards we can go for a run on a carefully chosen route and find some normal food for lunch. Ladies and gentlemen, I give to you breakfast Peak District style. Ice cream made on the premises by Jack. He is looking forward to receiving the robots this week that will milk the Jersey cows. Weather forecast currently is good but I will update the post nearer the weekend to finalise the details. UPDATE. YES THIS IS ON. WEATHER IS STILL FORECAST GOOD. Mine is the Bakewell cake with Raspberry Ripple ice cream, what will you have?3 points

Westfield and Caterham builds are two completely different animals. I do know people over the years that have managed to book a couple of weeks off work, have a complete Westfield kit at the start, and a car ready to be submitted for IVA at the end, but they’re rare, very much the exception, and have always been experienced and well equipped builders, sometimes, though not always, with a team of helpers, too. They're also. With one or two exceptions, fairly “by the book” builds, usually, too. In other words, minimal fettling and very little development during the build. Most Westfields seem to average more like between six and twelve months, when fit in around real life and family. Caterhams, for all the similarities when built, are constructed in a different way to Westfields, the nature of the largely hand made bodywork, means that essentially, you’re starting off with a fully clothed chassis, so one of the main time consuming areas of Westfield building doesn’t exist at all. Further, because of the way the body/chassis is supplied, it also cuts out a lot of the faffing about aligning things individually, on a Westfield. Mounting points, exhaust cutouts, air filter cutouts, etc etc are always in the same place, so many if not most, are precut/pre formed. I know a few Caterham owners that have essentially assembled the cars in a few long weekends. That said, I’ve no idea how may kits Caterham still sell, but it does seem to have really dwindled over the years, with it would appear, the vast majority of cars being factory built.2 points

We had our monthly local-area meeting last night; 7pm in a local pub.... nothing unusual, I thought. Except that I was the only one to turn up in a Westfield, which led me to suggest that we should re-name our branch the 'Comfortable Saloon Car Club' in recognition of the 80% of local members who prefer a roof and stereo. However, when I got home at 10.30pm, freezing cold and driving this mud-smuggler, I thought that they might have a point:2 points

I have worked out how to add an image using an iPad or iPhone, so through Safari browser. See below for what to do. Select your image, then click on Show selected at the bottom of the image upload selector You should then see this box with the actual size option bottom right, click that. Then you should get some sizing options. I chose Large and it worked fine1 point

Unless it was a SEiGHT, which if I recall correctly, were only available that way, the panelled chassis with wiring and lines fitted was, and remains, a (paid) factory option for those that don't want to do the initial build phase themselves.1 point

I got my kit on October 7th last year and am currently waiting for the V5 to drop through the letter box. I work week on week off so have had lots of spare time and we had lock down etc too. I did have a couple months off in the middle also when it was freezing in the garage. Cost wise, I think it’s much better value than the caterham and certainly a better kit than the other seven kits (in my opinion). Caterham build is different to Westfield, I believe they are almost put together and you add the finishing touches. The Westfield is a box of bits. Hope it gives you a rough idea. Would I do it again, certainly… could I have done it without the help of the guys on this forum, no.. 0B9D7D91-C628-4986-AE0F-87729C2D59CC.jpeg1 point

We all met at Hulme End for breakfast and a warm up. We almost had the car park to ourselves, I love it out of season. Nigel surprised us by coming out of the blue, which was lovely, and Rob (S2000) bought all of his South Derbyshire recruits which interestingly included James in a MEV that was a Focus(rear) and a Mondeo (front) in a former life and Ben in a bike engined MNR. Glynn in his supercharged S2000 Westfield, Martin in his Duratec engined Westfield, Ian in Bagpuss (S2000), AndrewABC (V8) and a SORN Billy in the Porsche. Ready for the off, give us a smile Our route went right up the middle of the Peak District with the sun and shadows bouncing off the hills and the autumn colours adding to our pleasure. We had dry roads, empty roads and lots of fun, the line of cars in my mirror as far as I could see, not bad for a cold November day so well done everyone. Here we are at our destination, Quackers, don't you just love it as they always have plenty of parking and room in the cafe, it will become a regular feature now that the Bull i Thorn has closed until next March. Midday sun is great until you want a photograph. 9 cars plus Billy in the Porsche The inevitable cake frenzy. Ian was forgiven for bringing his hairy legs as he so kindly gives everyone good advice on their cars. The sort of advice you can trust as it is not coming from a company who is selling a product and hopefully he has solved our mysterious disappearing clutch fluid problem, thanks Ian. We all dispersed although ABC and us again failed to pass Adam's Happy Hen's without calling in for one last drink Undercover seating, oh the luxury, we weren't expecting that Thanks for a great day out everyone. It is rememberance Sunday next weekend so I will be choosing my route very carefully and researching where the parades are, plus Chatsworth have their Christmas market going on. We cannot make the Saturday so finger's crossed for a dry Sunday and hope to see you then.1 point

A great turnout today considering it was so cold (I certainly needed the heated coat!). A big thanks to @Julie Hall - Joint Peak District AO for organising a great route through some stunning scenery! Brilliant to see you all, it's been ages since I was on a proper Peaky run out, just what I needed 👍1 point
