  4. Q: How many group members does it take to change a light bulb ? 1 to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been changed. 14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently. 7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs. 17 purists who use candles and are offended by light bulb discussions. 6 to argue over whether it's 'lightbulb' or 'light bulb'. Another 6 to condemn those 6 as stupid. 22 to tell THOSE 6 to stop being jerks. 2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is 'lamp'. 15 know-it-alls who claim they were in the industry, and that 'light bulb' is perfectly correct. 49 to post memes and gifs (several are of Michael Jackson eating popcorn with the words added, β€œI’m just here for the comments.”) 19 to post that this page is not about light bulbs and to please take this discussion to a light bulb page. 11 to defend the posting to this page saying that we all use light bulbs and therefore the posts are relevant here. 24 to discuss the merits of LED/swirly fluorescent light bulbs 44 to claim LED and fluorescent bulbs will kill you. 12 to post F. 8 to ask what F means. 7 to post 'Following' but there's 3 dots at the top right that means you don't have to. 3 to say "can't share" 2 to reply "can't share from a closed group" 36 People to post pics of their own light bulbs. 15 People to post "I can't see S$%^!" and use their own light bulbs. 6 to report the post or PM an admin because someone said "fΓ·Γ—$" 4 to say "Didn't we go through this already a short time ago?". 13 to say "Do a search on light bulbs before posting questions about light bulbs". 1 to bring politics into the discussion by adding that (insert politician of choice) isn't the brightest bulb. This usually takes place within the first three comments. 50 more to get into personal attacks over their political views. 5 admins to ban the light bulb posters who took it all too seriously. 1 late arrival to comment on the original post 6 months later and start it all over again.

  10. Whilst idly looking for something interesting to learn, I came across an amazing thing that I am sure lots of people already know, but I had no idea... The OU offer free courses! They're not long or in depth but none-the-less, they're free. Why am I saying this in here? Well in the Science Maths and Technology section there are several astronomy based items that could well be worth a look. The full list of all the options is here. Click on a banner and wonder at the sheer amount of free learning available. Why this hasn't been broadcast from the rooftops, especially during lockdown, is beyond me. But that's a whole other discussion. I've had to start a new Bookmark folder in my browser...

  11. February 6th, 2021 Spend: Β£38.58 Using Cardboard Aided Design to get the size right of the side panels. Thankfully they are symmetrical so I only had to do this once. Then transferring this to the stitched fabric. And then the moment supreme, does it fit? It does! After that, the tunnel top is easy peasy. February 7th, 2021 Spend: Β£0.00 Cleaned the car and masked off one side of the interior in prep for spray glue. Never done this before so decided to try it in two halves. This turned out not the best tactic, but any excess glue was quickly wiped off. And then I realised I'd completely forgotten to clear the harness bolt holes, so poked the holes through and put some bolts in to ensure they remain accessible. Leaving the other half for next week. February 11th, 2021 Spend: Β£0.00 A quick hour in the garage after work to glue the other side of the tunnel on. This time went really smooth doing it all in one go. February 13th, 2021 Spend: Β£13.95 Braving the cold to get started on the back panel and floor carpets, but gave up as I just couldn't use my fingers anymore. Also had to order more velcro. February 14th, 2021 Spend: Β£0.00 Installed the press fasteners that I still had left over, only to discover that I needed another pair to reduce the lifting of the top panel in between handbrake and gearstick. Ah well, this gives me the opportunity to spend some time with my other love πŸ˜‡ on valentine's day... February 17th, 2021 Spend: Β£6.99 Press fasteners arrived, so I obviously couldn't wait to complete what I wanted to complete last weekend. Glue can now nicely cure before the weekend again. February 18th, 2021 Spend: Β£0.00 Couldn't wait till the weekend so decided to fold around the handbrake and gear stick holes. Using some tape to keep the folded flaps in place until the glue has hardened February 19th, 2021 Spend: Β£50.66 Still need to fold and glue the sides, but here's a quick look at the nearly finished article whilst also showing off the new handbrake gaiter and gear knob. I also have a new gear stick gaiter, but it's way too big so I may have to ditch that. Anyone interested in a nice gear stick gaiter with purple stitching? February 20th, 2021 Spend: Β£7.99 Prepped the bottom side ready for spray glue and then got to it. Taped it all up and hopefully tomorrow the glue has hardened enough to see the final result. Then went back to the carpets and completed the final few bits and put some more velcro on the back panel. Tomorrow will do the same for the bottom pieces. February 21st, 2021 Spend: Β£0.00 Still need to do the footwells, but the rest is finished. Smart! February 27th, 2021 Spend: Β£18.86 Before I have seats in the way, I thought it would be a good time to fix the remote gear linkage. When I collected the car the reverse gear was incredibly difficult to engage, and after doing a little research (and having the tunnel cover off) I discovered that the bushes holding the linkage on the gearbox where perished. So this week I've been removing the linkage and ensuring that all adjustment bolts can turn freely before putting it back in again, along with new poly bushes. February 28th, 2021 Spend: Β£145.76 New footwell rubber mats made and fixed with velcro to the floor. Now I can finally install my Christmas present, an OMP Trecento steering wheel fitted to a steering boss extender. And a new gear stick gaiter that fits. Now all we need are seats and harnesses. Last month: Β£ 378.64 This month: Β£ 282.79 ----------+ Total: Β£ 661.43

  15. This forum has - or rather had - a problem, which was this: most of the people typing on it were unhappy for pretty much of the time. Many solutions were suggested for this problem, but most of these were largely concerned with the non-movement of small four wheeled vehicular propulsion, which was odd because on the whole it wasn't the small four wheeled vehicular propulsions that were unhappy. This thread tried to solve most of the owners of small four wheeled vehicular propulsion's angst by their small four wheeled vehicular propulsion being largely out if sight under very large rectangular pieces cotton looped drying material while they complained about something (it didn't matter what that something was, one day light bulbs the other who knows what) However that didn't account for the compulsion to guide said small four wheeled vehicular propulsion being away from bypasses which are devices that allow some people to dash from point A to point B very fast while other people dash from point B to point A very fast. People living at point C, being a point directly in between, are often given to wonder what's so great about point A that so many people from point B are so keen to get there, and what's so great about point B that so many people from point A are so keen to get there. They often wish that people would just once and for all work out where the hell they wanted to be. However the inherent angst was driven by the absence of driving from c to c along anything that didn't resemble a to b, but in fact if plotted by the sane would show a meaningless chain of zigzagging on byways away from square yellow boxes beside byways. And no-one asked the yellow boxes how they felt!

  26. "Shelf Queen", that's the saying I heard a while ago when I purchased the 540 motor for our Grasshopper, we are fortunate to have a little model shop in town that is what I call a proper toy shop (like Beaties and was it Trents before that?) selling Tamiya and Airfix amongst other well known brands from the day and he said that saying to me and how many off the kits he sells is destined for the shelf, he also confirmed our suspicions that most of his customers are mid 40's on. I kept looking at the Hotshot when I was last in there but can't justify it with everything going on at the moment. Unless my 8yr old Daughter needs one to race her older sisterπŸ€” πŸ™ˆ

  37. Good point Russ, we do generally, if it's felt the member who's reported needs to be contacted. For example - Some members kindly report a lot of post in the wrong section. Hence if we agree, we just move them and rightly or wrongly assume that the sender would notice it's been moved. Same goes for Spam. We check out the IP address, any other post history, discuss across the team to ensure it's agreed it is spam, and then zap the spammer as quick as possible. Again we'd not generally write a PM to the member who's advised. I agree it may appear rude, however many of the mods are moderating on top of busy day jobs etc and hence prefer to spend the time fighting spam etc and not sending pleasantries out via PM etc.

  38. Following this thread over the last few months fired up an enthusiasm to dig out my son's old lego technic models and build them as I'd got fed up with doing jigsaws! Rumaged through the loft and found two boxes dated 1989, one a JCB and the other a Drot - tracked loading shovel. Built the Drot first and to be expected there were a few parts missing, searched the large box of lego our grandsons play with and luckily found what I needed. Next the JCB, a lot more complicated, but worked through the instructions methodically. First problem, missing worm gear. Searched eBay and found what I needed, so waited a week for part to arrive from France. Moved on several more pages and again more missing parts, so sourced replacements, wait a week and move on. Eventually after 3 weeks it was complete! Really enjoyed the builds and the resultant models work really well and now proudly adorn our book shelves awaiting the return of our grandchildren to play/destroy them.

  40. Brace yourself I'm back! It's been a difficult year and I let my membership lapse. Lockdown 1 triggered a bipolar episode during which I dumped a boyfriend it had taken 2 years to find. So I was yet again alone which gave me ptsd from the loss of Brian. Its been utter s1t. I've had another episode half way through last year and seem to have cried for a year. The good news is, thanks to legal drugs, a vaccine, my family and friends I've popped back up like a champagne Cork in a jacuzzi! I found a family classic car restoration business near me and they serviced the Westfield and put right some long term issues. Nearly 6 years now since Brian was killed and at last I found a place I can take the car! It took me 2 years to create a new life using my Westfield as a way forward. Suddenly it was all taken away and I was plunged into loneliness. Absolutely horrid. I'm back now, it's been tough on us all and I can't wait to see you all again. Carpe diem

  41. My first car was a 1947 Series M Morris Ten. It had single dip headlights with a permanent high beam on the nearside and a mechanically operated tilting reflector on the offside. On 'dip' only the offside light was ON with a tilted reflector to aim the beam downwards. On main beam that reflector flipped up to a forward facing setting and the nearside light came on. All fine except that the bulbs were 35 watts in tarnished reflectors and the reflector required a hefty thump on the headlamp to make it work. I left it on main beam but such was sheer power of the lights that no oncoming cars drivers survived to complain!
