  1. I am approaching sixty and have owned and driven many classics, hot rods and sports cars. It is the anniversary of my Westfield purchase in 2018, so I thought I would celebrate by writing this. I was looking for a "classic" car but the purchase price, poor handling, inherent corrosion and poor performance had put me right off anything that fit my budget. In desperation I purchased my "project" (wreck) of a 1990 Westfield SEIW (Q823 DSA) because for the money, I believed it to be the best British sportscar I could buy. Today, after a complete body off restoration I am still of that opinion. And when I say "best" I don't just mean the driving experience. As opposed to most classics, the Westfield is a delight for the home mechanic to maintain and modify. For a Crossflow engined Westie the parts are cheap and plentiful with great support from this forum and vendors alike. The Westie is really easy to set up for everyone's individual requirements. I have lightened mine to a shade over 500Kg and changed the springs at both ends several times (because there cheap) to achieve the most delightful ride. Adjusting most of the suspension settings takes just a few minutes with a basic toolkit to achieve the levels of grip and handling "feel" you desire and that surpass nearly all moderns. I have also modified my Westie to look "older" replacing all the black plastic bits with chrome items together with using older style lights and instruments. I was at my mates body shop Friday night and someone had asked him to sort out his "restored " MGB Midget, which he was selling for £7,500. What a coil of dogs mess! Apart from the wheezy 1275cc "A" series and live rear axle on cart springs, the panel gaps were the worst I have ever seen! And I won't even mention the corrosion bubbling up under the terrible paint job. 30 year old Westfield SEIW with Crossflow - when all things are considered, easily the best British classic sports car for the money!

  2. Hi I have just joined the group and expecting to have my first westfield from next weekend. Can't wait to get out on the road in it. Hopefully in the not to distant future we will get to meets again.

  3. Whoops indeed. If its any consolation I only watched our wedding video once, and that was just to see me arrive at the wedding reception doing a doughnut in the Westy, but the Mother-in-law was having a proper flap/hissy fit over it shouting 'it will tip over' (really???) and her husband had to stop filming to calm her down! 😀

  4. It was a very long time ago and I don't recall why I picked that cable to be the first (and last) I didn't test.....I just recall how spectacular a cockup it was! Having found and fixed the problem, I spent the rest of the day going around the site apologising to everyone that had been affected......

  5. “If it’s not tested, it doesn’t work!” A mantra drilled into me from the earliest days of making and testing cat cable runs, patch leads etc.

  6. That is exactly what I got and same as you, I switched off the wireless function on the virgin hub, I then added a Deco M5 which is 60ft away in my garage and I can nearly get 30mb down there (plenty good enough to watch amazon and netflix on the tv in there!) Had it for nearly a year and has been great and that's with 4 of us in the house working from home and home schooling. Our house is 1930's with solid walls so I was a little dubious at first but really does work.

  9. Westfield V8 Nicely put together genuine SEight, registered in 1996 and currently on only its third owner. The car is on a Q plate and was built from a Kit with numerous genuine Westfield parts. Obviously its correctly registered as a Westfield. Finished in the traditional dark Blue with Yellow wings and Ducted Nose, with Yellow Chequeers on the bonnet Prior to purchase the car had stood for around 15 years in dry storage, so had suffered from some neglect, with all the rubber elements of the car deteriorating and getting really dirty! As part of the recommissioning the car has had wide track front suspension added, all the brakes have been refurbished and all suspension has been re-powder coated and rebushed. The chassis was originally powder coated and this has stood up well to storage, with no corrosion evident. The car was thoroughly inspected and no chassis cracks were found (and yes I do know where to look!) The car has a contoured dash with the usual compliment of functioning VDO instruments fed by a factory wiring harness. The seats are the comfortable highbacked variety in Blue to match the dash, with the carpets being Black (the blue fades over time). The steering wheel has a detachable boss for added security. Quick release harnesses are present to both driver and passenger seats. There are sidescreens and a hood with the car, both of which are in Black. The engine is the ubiquitous Rover V8, with a capacity of 3500. Its fed through a 4 Barrel Holley carb and dinner plate air filter. I suspect there is a modified cam shaft fitted but can’t confirm this….The electronic ignition has recently been replaced as have the leads, cap plugs etc. The car has a pair of side exit exhausts as you’d expect, and makes all the right noises. The gearbox is the LT77 from a Rover SD1, and this has had all the linkage bushes replaced. At the rear there is a Sierra 7” diff the ratio of which appears to be 3.62, and it has a viscous LSD. The refurbished wheels are shod in new 205 tyres, and there is a spare on the rear The Car has covered only 7500 Miles and has MOT until May 2021 – This can be retested to provide 12 months MOT on purchase. This car is a fabulous tourer. The torque is addictive with the car just swallowing the miles, climbing any hills in just about any gear, a great car to take on those weekends away. It drives great having had a geometry set up and just needs a new home with someone who will enjoy it. Ready to rock and could be sat in your garage ready to go when the sun is out and the temperatures go up a bit! Realistically priced at £13500. Call Paul on 07973 504785

  11. January 9th, 2021 Spend: £0.00 Looking at the results of my spray painting and tears are welling up. It's just the wrong time of season for spray paint; unless you can do it inside in a warm room maybe. Cutting my losses and ordered some black vinyl wrap last week instead. It's too cold in the garage to do this, so am moving into the dining room this weekend January 10th, 2021 Spend: £13.48 Wrapped the panels and am now waiting for a delivery of rubber edging, as I'm not sure if I want to go with a glossy edge or something a little more matte. January 15th, 2021 Spend: £11.40 The edging finally arrived, but it was too small to fit, so went with the glossy edge instead. Then quickly tried it with the roll bar in place to ensure it all fits (just!), but I forgot all about the seatbelt eyebolts, so I have to fiddle a bit to get that fitted on the left hand side underneath the diagonal bar. That's this weekends job 👍 January 16th, 2021 Spend: £12.69 It took 3 attempts and many many profanities before my son pointed out that the roll bar was actually resting on the eyebolt. Doh! Shortened the collar and it is finally on. Have only loosely fitted the rest of the bolts as I ran out of light in the garage (left the flashlights on overnight. Doh!). Tomorrow just tightening everything up and then we can call it a day... January 17th, 2021 Spend: £0.00 Done. Secured the middle section with some heavy duty velcro so there are no fixings on display, but I can still remove the middle section if I need access. January 23rd, 2021 Spend: £0.00 Finished off the wiring for the 3rd brake light and removed the rest of the carpets as I will be changing from blue/grey to black. January 24th, 2021 Spend: £0.00 Continued with stripping out the interior by removing the tunnel top and side panels. The tunnel top is going to be remade in a single piece of aluminium covered with fabric and attached to the top with some poppers. Carpets, fabric and aluminium sheet ordered, along with new gaiters. It's going to look lush! January 31st, 2021 Spend: £11.70 Marked the outline for the tunnel top using the old pieces and then cut it with the tin snips. Perfect fit! Last month: £ 329.37 This month: £ 49.27 ----------+ Total: £ 378.64

  15. When we moved house 16 years ago I took a load of VHS and cassette tapes to the tip, only problem was the box also contained my wedding vid and our dolphin swim from one holiday in Mexico. I wasn’t popular.
