  14. Having sat in a few different helicopter types from the good old S61 to the latest S92 I preferred the Puma to anything else at that time The 225 was better comfort wise and slightly quicker on crew change day( going home at least). The S92 is IMHO the most uncomfortable journey in a chopper ever, dare I say it worse than the Chinook! Very interesting link though and hopefully they have indeed eliminated the cause from future aircraft but knowing the mentality of the offshore workforce( well most of them) if they do indeed return to service they will not like it one bit .......

  22. Crazy Crazy Russians...... That's so funny it's obscene.....as a Royal Navy Medic you'd often be addressed as Doc...... I just got my minds eye screaming at me.... "DokSki.... I got the Mother of all headaches"

  23. Ha ha nice one Nemisis, I'd be right there with you! Have a look at the 70s/80s Russian Air Mobile 'Tank/APC' Para drops where they dropped the vehicles WITH crew inside! Not particularly successful as it was like putting eggs inside a tin can and dropping it on the floor...

  24. I had one and only one unholy terrifying flight in one of those...... correct me if I'm wrong but they have an 80 foot rotor diameter?? The nutter flying ours thought he was driving a lawnmower around a forest.... I think he got disciplined for his antics but that did nothing for my undies on the day..... now am I the only nutter that would want to be sat on that cannon for the worlds finest white knuckle ride?

  26. Hi all, Thanks for the suggestions and comments - all good with me. Should be fine with fuel - Taunton, Minehead, Lynton, Barnstaple and Tiverton so even if your not twinkle toes - you should be ok! The Bampton option is good. We could either go Bampton via Wivvy or Bampton, Exebridge, Heath Poult Cross and across top to Taunton. I'm completely fine with either. Monkton Elm is a good option or maybe even the Cross Keys pub on the roundabout? Really not precious about any of this at all - would just be good to have a plan up our sleeve so we can just get to it when we can - and woukd just eb great to finally meet up with everyone! Thanks all, W

  27. Well done W, know what it takes to pull together a route for a run, thanks for your efforts. Looks an enjoyable route, as and when the time is right to venture out again. Few thoughts (you did ask!): Fuel available at Barnstaple and/or Tiverton? (Usually try and plan fuel every ~100 miles with Dorset trips!) A fun way of avoiding the M5 could be to head north from Tiverton on the A396 to Brampton. Then head east on the B3227 back to Taunton via Waterrow, Wiveliscombe and Milverton. Lovely road provided thereโ€™s not too many Pheasants about! Monkton Elm Garden Centre always seems to be very busy, with congested parking plus the dreaded speed humps! An alternative suggestion could be the Otter Vale Garden Centre at Norton Fitzwarren (TA2 6PE) just north of Taunton. Just my thoughts, looking forward to it. Keep up the good work.

  28. I met some of the guys that were working on the Apache when it came into service during one of my free holidays around the globe. For every one hour of flying it required something ridiculous like 15hours maintenance. But agreed what a machine!!! Still not as good as the greatest helicopter in the world. Loved my time on these!

  30. Those who know me well would know that Iโ€™m lost without a project on the go so to pass the time over the summer I found something to keep me occupied while not working on the Costin. Iโ€™ve always fancied restoring a bike but not having a licence limits my options somewhat if I ever want to ride it. After a bit of searching the Testi Champion ticked the boxes but being Italian theyโ€™re few and far between in the U.K. a suitable project was found in Italy and after a few emails I was able to convince the seller to dismantle the bike and post it to me in 3-boxes! Suffice to say that my local postman was less than impressed with this. Against all odds it arrived safely (missing a few nuts and bolts) but all the important bits were there. from this.... to this....
