My Westy is a pretty paired back affair so today I set about making it more of a touring spec. So heres where it started 5 minutes later I completed the conversion! I honestly think this is a game changer for me! no more sore elbow! 👍 Cad drawings, blueprints and 3d renders can be posted in tech section if any one wants to make one. If lockdown lasts too much longer I fear it will look like I covered it in glue and ram raided Halfords! Just want to drive it. Stay safe👍9 points

Good news at last, the Costin is back home again from it’s holiday on the Norfolk coast. keen to resume progress I decided to pay a transport company to collect it for me rather than wait till the restrictions of this lockdown have been lifted. maybe the size of the lorry was a bit bigger than needed though Other than a couple of photos over the last few days this is the first time I’ve seen the new manifold in the flesh. Very pleased with the results and well worth the wait. and just a reminder of what this replaces5 points

Hello... Bought a 1996 SEW 2 years ago and I've been lurking about here ever since... As the site / club is so good I decided to become a paid up member... so, hello... Car is running a pinto 2.0 (maybe 2.1) with Type 9 box. After twiddling a bit with the car, its clear it was built by a drunk chimpanzee armed only with a drill and maybe teeth to strip wires... certainly no solder or crimped connections to be seen... scary when you consider it was originally running an efi setup...🤷🏻♂️ It's had 9 owners since and looking at the receipt pack, its had £1000s spent by owners chasing electrical gremlins... with one owner fitting zx6r carbs and powerspark ignition to get it running ok... ... as for holes and cutting, everything was stitch drilled and gnawed on until it kinda fit... 😂 So yeah, its a project and I've sorted alot of the wiring now and tidied up the engine bay.... i may start a build thread... heres a couple of photos... 👍🏻😄 engine bay before, old wiring i removed, some non soldered wiring and engine bay after. Also a photo of my mates car and mine... it was after riding in his car i bought mine... his car is better overall... apart from colour.😋 I'll be lurking about 😷4 points

Yep, I have got this from the very beginning, it was what really worried me about what was going on. However, I'm really pleased I'm not the one making the decisions because it strikes me that whilst there seems to be quite a lot of "data" it's not enough or helpful enough to really give anyone a clear cut decision. They are going to be dammed if they do and dammed if they don;t going by the current Media. So good luck to them, let's hope for our sakes they get it right for the long term benefit of everyone, although that may mean some short term pain.3 points

Firstly sorry for the long post: Folks let’s not complicate this. The reason for the poll is several fold but is mainly just to gauge how people feel about competing this year should lockdown be lifted. Im sure many of us can’t wait to get out on track again, but we also have to consider that some people may feel differently and it’s too late in the season to compete in a full championship due to other commitments such as self employed businesses catching up on lost work, or others may have a lack of finance due to being furloughed etc etc and won’t turn out at all this year, so this is what we are trying to gauge. Firstly the immediate concern is the Blyton Weekend as clearly there is financial commitments for club in relation to it. We are obviously dependant on MSUK resuming permits in order for Motorsport to take place but even if they do, we don’t know if officials, medical and breakdown crews will still be available, ( or willing) without which we can’t tun. After all it’s no use committing to running the Sprint event if we have too few entries for the reasons above. The track day is an important part of the weekend for members and the speed series drivers as has been pointed out as many of our volunteers attend the track day the day before, but things are that odd at the moment the track day could go ahead and not the sprint or vice versa..... who knows. Let’s hope it both....before we all go stir crazy 😝.We will no doubt run a further survey once we have a better idea what’s happening. Of course IF we do run the sprint we will always be grateful to anyone who is willing to help out with marshalling etc etc especially if they have attended the track day the day before and are making a weekend of it. The purpose of the poll of registered competitors is also to gauge whether we are going to have a meaningful championship going forward, with plenty of people turning out for the remaining rounds as this obviously has an impact on the awards do at the end of the year. There is a lot of uncertainty at the moment and I’m aware that Terry is in contact with other clubs to see what their plans are as this also affects our championship too. If we can get an idea how many people will be turning out this year, this can be fed back to the other clubs as they are in a similar position to ourselves. So if you are a registered contender please complete the survey. If you are not then please feel free to indicate whether you will be attending any of the speed series rounds either for a track day, to volunteer, or even just to spectate. Thank you and stay safe.. Should we be able to venture out into the big wide world at some stage soon, how do you feel about attending the Blyton Track day on Friday 10th July 2020? In order to ensure our plans are sound for making the track day happen, please respond to the poll. We normally get around 40 cars and some 45 or more drivers/passengers - this is however, not a normal year so we are expecting reduced numbers. Your responses to this poll will be really useful in enabling us to fully understand the demand for the day and if it stacks up, we will make it happen. In addition, any help you feel you are happy to give in supporting the sprints on Saturday and Sunday (should they also be able to go ahead) would be welcomed, so please also indicate if you can do so or not. Given the current situation, it is unlikely that we will have the regular evening meal at the Pub or the WSCC marquee and BBQ and are therefore unlikely to plan for them but, we believe there will be camping and the usual on-site facilities with the appropriate distancing measures in place should they still be required. Whilst we understand a few competitors make use of the track day for shakedowns, etc. and that the track day feeds the softer side of the sprint weekend by way of volunteers - please consider the track day as a separate activity i.e. it is not a dependency for nor is it dependent on the Sprints on the Saturday and Sunday. Thanks very much.1 point

Hi all, i joined the Westfield group on Facebook and got pointed in this direction. im looking at just purchasing just the chassis first and building up over time. I’m looking at using a focus Mk1 RS engine. Is there just one option of the Westfield for the Zetec? Also what other options can I get when ordering the chassis I have been told of low floor (I’m 6’3) and widebody. Can these both be got with the Zetec chassis? also I’m looking at about 400bhp does the chassis need any strengthing? Thanks1 point

Hi Everyone In response to to the above post from Andy Banks relating to the Blyton weekend please be advised that I have made tentative bookings for the pub and mini bus transport as usual for the regular Friday night Blyton Meal. Of course these tentative arrangements have been made on the basis and subject to the following provisos: 1) All or part of the planned w/e will actually go ahead 2) Pubs are allowed to re-open by the planned w/e 3) The Black Horse is able and prepared to offer food and drink under the conditions stated in the yet to be issued Exit Strategy 4) Any attendees for either part of the planned w/e do actually want to attend the Friday night pub meal! I appreciate we await a lot of answers at this moment and time is not on our side but if it is allowed, deemed to be safe and any of the w/e participants want to attend the basic foundations have been laid in anticipation! Thanks Graham/Glutey1 point

that’s the car your thinking about . “capable of 500bhp but running low boost” 250+ in a Westfield will make a very, very fast car. (Not guaranteed to be fast though, that’s why you never see Mega S2000s on track days)1 point

Welcome. Nice to see another 90's SE being worked on. Definitely start a build thread so we can see your progress, it's already looking loads tidier.1 point

As per title. Can’t even see carpets on the Westfield site anymore. my carpet set is blue but I wouldn’t mind either new or change the floor carpet mats to black. I already have the footwell ones just need the ones for under the seats1 point

I have found that getting access to the tunnel has been a pain when you have to take the seats out so you can then take off the cut and bound tunnel carpet. When changing mine, I covered the tunnel in three bits of carpet. The side carpet panels have webbing sewed over the top edge which is then Velcro fixed to the top of the tunnel. The top carpet is bound around the edges and then Velcro fixed. This results in access to the top of the tunnel by simply taking off the top piece. This might seem like a little thing but if you have a job like changing the handbrake cable or checking the heated seat switches, you don’t have to take the seats out!1 point

years ago, they were supplied loose, and the carpet was not cut, but there were many different engine/gearbox, gear-lever and remote gear lover mounting options. So you cut the holes in the right place for your build, then returned the carpet to have the gaiters seen in. Though of course you could get it done yourself. These days, with a more standardised range, the carpets seem to come with them already sewn in. Must admit, o preferred the old way, as it made it so much easier to build things the way you wanted, rather than being forced to follow a standard template. But they tell me it’s progress.1 point

Nothing sounds like a v8... pure porn for the ears... The only 4 pot which has ever come close is the e30 m3 Imho. Although cooling, reliability, and probably every other aspect would be better on the Honda. Just think of the sound :), not the pounds..1 point

I'm not sure everyone will get rid of the buzzing noise but I would be interested to see. I've calibrated mine twice (once with an experienced tuner by my side) and he said it was normal. As for the map, I have no idea but your logic seems accurate as that is how you modify other parts of the ECU configuration.1 point

Thanks @Dave (OnliestSmeg) - Manchester AO There is a certain "atmosphere" that I have really enjoyed with this and all the others you have posted. Not sure I would listen to the music on its own but I have really enjoyed them all when combined with the video. Already looking forward to the next one.1 point

I bought mine from Andrew, and have been pleased with the car and the service. Firstly, the website and facebook sites are clickbait - most if not all of the cars have gone BUT they do show the type of car he has on offer and he NEVER lists a price. This leads onto second point - there is no PARKERS GUIDE to westfields - even stock factory come with options and hence difficult to price private sale v trader (A lot of these are part-ex against tin tops)? Thirdly, as you have done, I gave Andrew a call, discussed the following: My experience, I was a Westfield newbie but experience engineer What was my wish list is? As you say, essential, desirable, luxury, safety...The list goes on and as it does so does the price! What was I aiming to pay (yes he will always find something to boost that) What Andrew was able to do was review his stock (apparently he has lots of cars in storage that he can call upon) and find something close to what I wanted....then it was negotiation time? As a follow up, I have had great service from Andrew and Dale both from an aftersales perspective but also as a source of info on my car and bits of it I didn't understand (as i didn't build it) and also some really good 2nd hand parts at decent prices. As to the stripes, I have them, slightly modified to my taste, and that is it - his 'signature along with the ToyBox stickers, personal taste and fully removable. From what I know now - 18 months on....yes there are cheaper cars and higher spec cars but as a first time buyer I am happy with what I got (Car and service). I always recommend others to join WSCC and ask the questions and visit an area meet to see other cars before buying. I've changed many a thing on mine so far and likely to do more, so wonder what it will be worth if I sell it in the future (more or less)?1 point

Oops, it’ll just lay in the sump, won’t get sucked up by the oil pump as it should have an oil strainer. I dropped a 6mm nut in my engine and it went down to the sump, stayed there for almost a year and I did a few trackdays. Next oil change I removed the sump and there it was, happily having a bath. I’m not saying keep on driving as normal, you should of course remove the tip.1 point

Er, did you search on the Westfield site under “carpet”? https://parts.westfield-sportscars.co.uk/index.php?route=product/search&search=Carpet&description=true Admittedly, only full carpet sets are listed, I’m not sure if buying individual bits is possible, you’d need to speak to parts about that. Though any local trimmer would easily be able to make them for you, especially if you have something to use as a pattern.1 point

Thanks Tim. Makes all the difference. It’s also got rid of the annoying buzzing from the throttle body.1 point
