  2. Great 'on the move' photo's there Luke, thanks for posting them. Glad you enjoyed it, and you popped your Winnat's Pass cherry ๐Ÿ˜ Meeting us at Sainsburys were Luke, Steve (with Stuart), Andy, Richard and Kevin Steve Richard Richard, who proceeded to try and nick Tangoman, just because he suits your car better than mine, tut. Luke Luke Andy proudly told us that his Cobra is featured in the latest Total Kit Car magazine. I didn't get chance to read it but it looks fabulous and is spread over 4 pages, it would sit well in our Westfield World magazine if you fancy a bit of writing Andy? Richard had only come to pick up the indicators from Luke and had to leave us here. We took the big roads up to The Rambler Inn, Edale which meant that Luke got to finally drive up the Winnats Pass. As we were slightly early for lunch I thought we would have a little photo shoot on the way. We are parked in a bus turning area, but the bus is a tourist bus and only runs in the summer, so cheeky sods like us can take full advantage of it. That got us to the Rambler Inn just in time for it opening, but not before a n head parked in our spot 1 minute before us Bonnets came flying off and tyres were kicked until it started raining and we headed indoors for lunch Kev's ST170 engine Billy joined us in the Porsche Tangoman came too We had lunch while watching the sideways rain come down, made worse when Steve's wife messaged him to say it was lovely sunshine in Rutland. After lunch we all got in our wet Westfields, but wait a minute, look at this, Bill is claiming that his roof is broken. How hard did you jam it with the screwdriver? He said he is going to search Sarah's handbag when he gets home as he is conviced there will be a missing part of his roof in it. I had to change my finish point because Steve had fetched Stuart with him and needed to deliver him back to Matlock, I refused to change my route, it is the best bit of the day, so we defected to good ol' Tagg Lane. We had a good run there, with a free run up the steep Mam Nick road, enjoying the twisty bits and keeping a good convoy on the emptier roads. I can really tell that my shock absorbers and springs have been changed, it's great, they really work. Tagg Lane It soon got messy. White chocolate and hazelnut ice cream for me. Perhaps they were expecting Ian's daughter, Charlotte, my little Kinderella, who would have enjoyed today Back outside Luke showed us that not only did he have a lovely engine bay housing the Honda lump but he also had the cleanest oil in his engine, it was cleaner than when it comes out of the container. Watch that Billy, he is still showing off in his t-shirt. Steve followed us down the twisty Via Gellia road and back to Matlock as we said our goodbyes to all. Thank you everyone for coming all the miles today, we kept a good convoy and nobody broke down, hopefully you all got back in the daylight. It was largely dry, it's just that the high ground is unpredictable this time of year, but it is where the best views are.

  3. Thank you @Julie Hall - Peak District AO for allowing the token Cobra owner to join in again ๐Ÿ˜‰ After all I've been through with my daughters condition it's great to be part of the Westfield family and it means a lot to still be accepted. I ended up taking a wrong turning on my way home however it turned out for the best as I went up via the Fiddlers Elbow ... which was a fantastic place to stop and enjoy a cigar after the sun came out!

  4. Good day out today and a nice bit of lunch whilst watching horizontal rain out the window .Luckily we ate whilst it rained ,the rest of the day was overcast with nicely greased roads Which makes for good fun in our cars .It was my first run up Winnats pass too and the roads and views were worth the drive . The road home from Matlock to the M1 was very busy and I was worried as the light was fading .I didnโ€™t fancy the slow trawl through Nottingham so decided to hammer it down the M1 towards Leicester ,as I pulled off at the Coalville turn I pulled into a lay-by with a sinking feeling,as My dominators are **** and it was near dark .I thought b*****x and then it dawned on me that my glasses had dark tinted lenses in ๐Ÿ˜‚ Thankfully it was my new pair and they had interchangeable lenses so I put the yellow ones in and wow what a difference .It was still dusk tho and I knew Iโ€™d be getting home in borderline dark ,as I pulled up at 4.40 it was dark but the glasses were giving me better vision than my headlights .Before I get that horse Iโ€™m upgrading those headlights ,on the plus side the days are getting longer so weโ€™ll have more driving time as the weeks go on . Thanks Julie and Glen ,and the rest of you .

  7. I did exactly that, I found a number of build quality issues so went over everything again for my own piece of mind . I had few receipts with it but I didnโ€™t object to getting a Q plate registration you can download a copy of the Iva manual and the forum here is a great extra set of eyes , help and advice if you do take the plunge start a build thread , post loads of pictures and everyone will help with anything you are unsure of hereโ€™s a couple of pictures to encourage you from pick up to on the road and having fun

  9. I put updated H4 bulbs in Luke, admittedly not led ones but I just feel that you canโ€™t get enough light out a 4 inch hole . If Iโ€™m blatting down a country road in the evening I want something that lights the place up . What about one of these fitted to the roll bar ๐Ÿ˜‚ https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/42-Inch-car-Work-Light-Bar-Flood-Spot-Offroad-12V-24V-240W-With-Wiring-Harness/163941257346?hash=item262ba91082:g:euYAAOSw3tddy2SE

  11. All done! I have impressed myself! So, just for those out there that may be doing a similar update, i took these steps... 1. Did a bit of a tidy up, deleting unused applications, files etc, then empty the trash! 2. Did a full backup using Mac's 'time machine' 3. Oh i did the same on all family accounts on the Mac. 4. Installed MD Office 2019 following the on screen prompts https://support.office.com/en-us/article/how-do-i-upgrade-office-ee68f6cf-422f-464a-82ec-385f65391350?ui=en-US&rs=en-US&ad=US 5. Once installed and i checked 'Word, Excel and Powerpoint' all worked, i then deleted MS Office 2011. This was simply done by selecting the old application from 'finder' window and drag the old application to trash. 6. Removed old app in the 'dock' on all accounts. 7. Did the 're-start'. 8. All up and running, fantastic. 9. Update the OS to MacOS Catalina 10. Re-start Very relieved it all worked out ok. Andy

  13. Hi all, thanks all for the useful advice, car bought and now in my garage. The build level is great as it was from a well respected owner who has built a few kits. In the process of assessing what few parts I need to buy to finish off the car. Happy to now be a Westfield owner after first going on a test drive from the factory about 30 years ago.

  15. Welcome! its absolutely do-able, but a real how long is a piece of string question without doing a thorough examination of the car. The utter worst case scenario would be needing to strip it right back to the earliest stages and having to virtually start again, even down to removing brake and fuel lines to get fixing spacings right etc. And the very best case would be a few weekends worth of tidying and IVA prep jobs. Or more realistically, it will fall somewhere in the middle! New parts mean nothing and are of no more value than normal second hand, without receipts, receipts, receipts! With something like this, paperwork is everything to do with what it's worth. However tempting it might look, and even if it's fully drivable, without the paperwork, the value is affected, as it's not a car, just a collection of old bits. There's absolutely nothing wrong with ultimately having a q plate, of course, so don't be put off if that is the likely result, but do use it as leverage when it comes to values. Dont underestimate the cost of putting through IVA and registration, either. Not only are the tests expensive these days, but factor in the other getting on the road costs and IVA prep costs. It wouldn't be unreasonable, on a well built car that is genuinely likely to pass IVA with just the normal final IVA prep left to do, to allow the best part of a grand to get it to the registered on the road stage, so the money paid should reflect that. If more work work is needed, then it could cost double that. This shouldn't necessarily put you off any given Westfield, provided the price paid is realistic and reflects this. And of course, you understand, and are up for, the work required. Be aware though, that it's also easy to get carried away and start personalising and modifying the car to your own tastes at the same time, so make sure this is a route you're picking, for the right reason! (Neither building, nor buying a pre-IVA part built cars are necessarily the cheapest way into Westfields ownership, a fullybuilt registered car is almost always the way to go, if that's your goal. But they are a fantastically rewarding way into ownership, if you enjoy the work involved.)

  17. I couldn't help but post this... I've had the facing fall off one of my savage switches a few weeks ago and finally got round to replacing it. Not wanting to remove the dashboard, the photo is of my son shoehorning himself into the foot well to do the swap... He's took great delight in telling me of the advantages of not being old and fat ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ One for the 2021 calendar?!

  19. Hi, Missed out on Julie's run out today, but have a pass for tomorrow morning (the better half is tending to her stinking money pit horses ๐Ÿ˜). There's a meeting of kit cars happening at the Cottage Kitchen near Leek at 1030 am if anyone fancies it? Address is: The Cottage Kitchen Leek Road Winkhill ST13 7PN From what I can gather from the whatsinstaface app thingys there's a few from the Stoke end of the world going (westies, locosts, catering vans, tigers etc)

  22. Thatโ€™s exactly how I felt Rob in fact the headlight conversion was the first thing I did, however since Iโ€™ve been caught out a couple of times now enough is enough . Id almost go as far as to say theyโ€™re dangerous,Ive still got my old 5. 3/4 inch shells so Iโ€™m going to look at an led upgrade with the Harley style lights . As I enjoy runs far from home I just worry that if anything happened and it got dark before I got moving again ,Iโ€™d not get back

  24. Sounds like a great day out again! I'm even more gutted to have missed it now.. Having a Cobra to drool over and missing Winnats pass! I love that road, Derbyshires Cheddar Gorge! I'm ashamed to say I didn't even know it existed until one of @Julie Hall - Peak District AO's runs ๐Ÿ™„ Glad nobody broke down this time! Hopefully it's just coincidence that it's always when I'm there, i don't want to get a reputation as a jinx! ๐Ÿ˜‚ @Weekend WarriorI know the feeling with the dominators... Scary in the dark, but they look so good in the daylight I can't bring myself to change them๐Ÿ˜

  25. Thanks Gary,50% driving 50% tinkering. I used to have a 1400 A series mini in my youth,so its like picking up where i left off. Although i'm doing bits and bob's now,i'm leaving the major work till next winter. Was thinking cams and porting, but the more i think about it.Would a turbo conversion be more value for money?๐Ÿ˜

  29. You can gain space just by removing the seat sliders and finding a comfy Low seat, usually the GRP kind which are comfy believe it or not. Bolt the seat direct to the floor to suit yourself only. You can also fit a smaller steering wheel and shorten or lengthen the column for extra space, itโ€™s not hard to do and help is at hand on this forum. As for footwear, the classic Puma and Addidas trainers have narrow widths and thin soles for pedal control, youโ€™ll find something to suit.

  33. December 1st, 2019 Spend: ยฃ36.99 Continuing with the badge fixing. And then I moved onto the next thing, replacing the odo display. This turned out to be a bit of a 'mare, but hopefully once put back together, not very noticeable where I had to damage things to get it apart. I'm taking the opportunity to change the face of the gauge as the plan is to replace all gauge faces in a similar style. December 8th, 2019 Spend: ยฃ6.69 New number plate and gel badge from Westfield completes the replacement nose cone. Having replaced my sausage filter not too long ago, I thought that the bonnet hole could have been slightly bigger so it doesn't squash the filter as much. Out comes my new favourite tool, the power file Just need to replace the rubber edge trim. December 14th, 2019 Spend: ยฃ0.00 With my son's input and execution as graphic designer, we settled on the following design. Printed on thick glossy paper, but it soon was apparent that it had to be laminated and have a black backing to prevent backlight from bleeding through. And then assembly is the reverse of disassembly December 15th, 2019 Spend: ยฃ0.00 And that's where I should have stopped. But no, I wanted to redo the gauge face of all my gauges, so with the speedo done successfully, how hard could it be to do the tacho? The ring went smoothly, but then I had to remove the needle, but unlike the speedo, this one is fused solidly on the tiniest of metal and after a few twists the metal just broke. ๐Ÿ˜ญ I've tried to solder it back together, but it's too fragile so I'm afraid I will have no choice but to replace the gauge with a new one. Which means that I will have to either undo my speedo again (so it looks the same as the new tacho), or replace the speedo (so it looks the same as the new tacho). Dumb f๐Ÿคฌck! December 30th, 2019 Spend: ยฃ5.17 Odds and sods today. Got the rubber trim fitted around the bonnet hole and fitted some spire nuts to hold the dash panel instead of the rubber rivnuts I've previously been using. And I also joined a new club Last month: ยฃ 9436.25 This month: ยฃ 48.85 ----------+ Total: ยฃ 9485.10

  34. A horse? Don't do it!! My better half has two of the things... I could run 4 or 5 Westfields for what I shell out on those big brown smelly cash hoover's ๐Ÿ˜ค. I will probably be retiring in a cardboard box with a 4 pack of Tennant's Super at this rate ๐Ÿ˜‚ On the upside, I have a quiet stress free life as I never see her ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ‘Œ
