What a fantastic project! I've enjoyed reading every bit and I'm sure you're proud of how it turned out. David Peers who you mention as the project manager is my Great Uncle. He is 82 now and doing well; I saw him last week. Still loves his fast cars and is an all round very nice guy! He mentioned that he had been working with Chris Smith on a mid engined Westfield back in the 1990s; I must get some more stories from him soon.3 points

Evening all, bit of a difficult post to write but....so I was bought a seiw kit for my birthday (ill tell house which birthday later!) Jmade pretty good progress at first, and accumulated lots of parts but, as I'm sure everyone here has experienced, I soon found becoming self employed, having two children, moving house, etc, etc meant I was spending less time on the car (wendy) so, now the embarrassing bit, I'm 46 now, the birthday the car was my present for was my 30th!! 😧 I've been a member here a few times over the years and always recieved good advice. As things stand i dont think I'll have the time or money to finish her for the next 10 years and seems silly to have her just sat there. So I'd really like a bit of advice as to what people think she might be worth, best place to try and sell her (here I hope) and maybe find someone on here who might be interested. I'll try and get some pics and a list of how far I've got and the parts I've accumulated this weekend. Thanks Dan1 point

Hi all, just a reminder of the next Warwickshire meeting is on 20th June from around 7.30pm at The Falcon, Birmingham Road, Hatton, CV35 7HA. We may have an additional visitor to the meeting as Patrick, the Westfield Sportscars parts manager has indicated the he will attend, possibly in the current factory demonstrator . However, the weather is not looking too promising so it may be tin top time. We have no choice at present so definitely tin top for us . So if would like to put a face to the name at the end of the phone then please come along as Patrick is on a quest to meet members/owners at as many regional meetings as he can. See you Thursday!1 point

Thanks indeed to you all for taking the time to post! What a fantastic adventure and brilliant write up. You are all a shining example of what makes this such a great club. And as a reward @Geoffrey (Buttercup) - North Yorkshire AO I will guarantee that as long as I’m the webmaster and you’re an AO your photo limit will be as much as you need 👍1 point

Fantastic, I imagine he would have quite a few stories to tell from his career working with Johnny Walker and also his time at Villers R&D. I've dug out a couple of pictures from my collection of Dave Peers and Johnny Walker during the delvelopment of the Type 65 (Mk1 JW4), this would have been from around 1965. Prehaps when you see Dave next you could ask him for me about the his model that was to become the Mk1 which is was secured him the job with Johnny Walker, I'd love to know if it was something he made himself or indeed what it was made from. The following is an extract from the unpublished history of Formula Four by Rod Pickup about Dave Peers involvment, there's a few names in there which he may remember working with at the time.1 point

Following last nights BBC Tory leadership debate between the remaining five contenders, today on Sky, presenter Adam Boulton said to MP Andrew Mitchell "if that's the best we've got for the next Prime Minister we are all in trouble". Having watched the program I have to sadly concur.1 point

Five grandkids here between 4 and 19 and all had at least one blat in the Westfield. One word of warning though, they can cost you as much as your own children, you’ll find out in a few years.1 point

That’s what I used to do as well, mum used to buy me a new kit every month when she was paid. Hit the jackpot when she came home with a Lancaster kit. I reckon I went through the whole of the Airfix catalogue as she sometimes bought a Revell kit. Also built up a collection of warships, remember HMS Victorious took ages to build.1 point

No problem whatsoever. Solid as a rock - slight bit of side flap at warp speed but nothing to write home about. Note this is a home made roof by @Madda so can’t comment on any commercial ones. He made plenty of Velcro straps to keep it held onto the cage at various points. The roof definitely helped - obviously not going to stop water getting in but when you get caught in a downpour in slow traffic or at a stop it really works. Combined with half doors it’s a great solution for a caged car.1 point

One week until mapping!! Flippin excited! Although this is the first car I've had where I feel like something might stop the day from going how I'd like it too... 😳1 point

I can join you for breakfast at The Real Food Cafe, but can't make the run with you on Saturday. I'll convoy up with Matt and look forward to catching up over a full Scottish 😀 but will head back to the Borders thereafter. Hope you have a great weekend! Cheers, Brian.1 point

Well she arrived home this morning at 8.30 am on the back of a small car carrier... apart from the dirt of transit and the roof being on she is how I saw her last. Good to have her back, she is at the local garage where Danny the owner helped Brian to build her all those years ago... Will keep you updated as to her needs! I feel I might soon be light headed with the rush of money leaving my wallet1 point

They'd just hand pick the jury, it'd be rosie cheeked toffs and academics, who because of the proliferation of far left wing views in the UKs academic circles, would end up voting for us to exit the EU on paper, but actually remain fully attached to it.1 point

Gary there are a few options to throw in... The tyndrum inn has a pretty good bar menu (maybe for the sat night, although may have to book a largeish group). There is a reasonable sized fully equipped communal kitchen for anyone wanting to cook there on fri night. Thanks for all your ( and Rabs) organisation so far - its much appreciated. Dave1 point

Hi Rab welcome back even though you never left, 1, due to hospital and work I can’t get away early , I think John Baxter, Jim and Laura, Jim and Jean and Brad and Diane are heading upwards not sure who’s meeting who though 2, as there’s not a large bbq , it’s up to folks as to wether they want to do a bbq at the huts and then congregate for a blether 3, Saturday morning breakfast at the real food cafe , time ???? How does 9 sound for breakfast ( I need to let folk know for joining us on the Saturday ) 4, the cafe is open until 9.30 and would see us together but would mean going into tyndrum and would be dry in case of inclement weather thoughts ?? I thought it was very telling that May voted for Rory Stewart as her replacement, the only true remainer on the list now. It seems to confirm her heart wasn't really in leaving and why she caved in so easy when the EU said no. As for the citizens jury, how does he think that would work? If they came out to leave the remainers would go nuts and vice versa. Simple facts we voted to leave elect a leader to do just that and draw a line under this. It will cause us pain but we will get over it as everyone will know what is happening and when. It is the uncertainty that is harming our reputation and has pushed Germany to the brink of recession.1 point

Depending on work, I might be able to join in on the Saturday run Did the Run to Portavadie a couple of weeks ago. Love that area. Bob1 point

I fail to see what any citizens' jury could achieve with the existing, immutable, agreement. There's far more than the Irish backstop wrong with the May proposal anyway. I don't see how we can leave by any means except by default under Article 50 and the Withdrawal Act as Parliament has repeatedly rejected the only available 'deal' and the default under the laws above is to leave under WTO rules if no agreement is made. Of course Article 50 could be rescinded but the recent scenes in Hong Kong could well be reprised in UK if that were to happen. Rory Stewart is fundamentally a remainer and we've been that way before haven't we? Against all of the predictions Boris Johnson won the mayoral elections twice, and it's not inconceivable that he could do the same in a GE if it is times well. Whether he turns out to be a disastrous PM or not only time will tell, but if he were to win a decent majority then that could be rectified sometime down the line. Personally, while I don't really believe in him, I do believe he may be the best pragmatic choice.1 point

Ah - I see. if mine were 420mm instead of 460mm they'd be fine. Looks like you're right then @CosKev I wish I'd realised this when ordering as I went with the advice of JK on sizing! I have just checked the invoice and mine are 3946 - ie 39cm at base, 46cm at top - so should have got 3942's. Ah well - they are still superb seats!1 point

This robot thing works outside at the airport in Singapore. If it sees someone pull and stop in a no parking zone, it goes to the side of the car and flashes its lights and howls it’s sirens and makes unpleasant noises until the driver is embarrassed enough to move on. No ticket issued, just public shame. Not sure it would work so well here. 😄1 point

We had a drive through a village and decided to see where the road went. Unfortunately it didn't go far as it was blocked by snow. It was fun turning the cars around but even with all the snow it was still warm.1 point

Hi Folks bad news for me i'm afraid. I've woken this morning to very blury vision in my right eye, so i won't make the start line today. It's unlikely I will make any of the trip but will get to hospital as early as poss next week and see what the consultant has to say. I can't tell you how dissapointed I am, but my sight is too important to risk. I hope you have the most fantastic trip and will be reading your posts wishing I was with you. Have fun and be safe.1 point

So why the hurry to get everything finished? Well next weekend I have an invitation to the car show for Motorsport at the Palace at Crystal Palace. If you happen to be near London and at a loose end over the bank holiday weekend come and say hi. Polished and ready As I close off this chapter I should also finish by saying that not a single cable tie was used anywhere in the assembly of this car 🙂1 point
