  1. If you volunteer to help on the WSCC stand over the weekend ( a few hours) you will get free admission and camping on our own plot next to the pitch. More details will be posted closer to. Free beer and a hog roast too.

  2. With the excitement of collecting the Costin now out of the way and the trailer unloaded last weekend it's back to working on the JW4 again. Last week I had a rather big delivery of laser cut parts so I can make some more progress on some of the remaining jobs. The fire wall panels I'd had cut to roughly the right shape but I'd left a small allowance for final fettling to get them to fit the body profile exactly. Footwell panels fitted as well for extra crash protection. And finally I turned up a some top hat spacers for the steering rack bolts.

  3. Goody, goody, I am messing about with routes and I am proposing change of plan. Matt and Andrew are travelling a fair distance and Martyn and Sue are not exactly on the doorstep, so how about we go for a bite to eat first, at a new place only 5 miles away from Sainsburys? So still meet at Sainsburys, but just use it to gather everyone together and go for eats. I could book a table for 9 people at 11.15, that includes for Michael and Marie too. Then with full tums we can have a scenic drive and land back at a place only 2 miles out of Matlock for some cake.

  4. Hi! After years of searching for a Westfield that fitted my expectations and dreams :-), I bought this car from a Belgian seller specialised in British cars. It's a imported (from England) Westfield SE from 1990 with a crossflow 1600 engine on a weber carb. The car had a yellow nose, but the seller painted it green. Previous owner totally rebuild, refurbished the car, it's in brand new condition. Did a test drive with it and was starstruck, what a feeling :-). I'm now waiting to get my licence plate and insurance so I can start adding some miles on it. Looking forward to being a part of this community, thanks in advance. Greets from Brugge - Belgium

  7. Refurb is finished, so back to the Red Kite. Might even sit outside if it's nice just to annoy the waitress.

  10. Thanks Dave. I've gone from being an Electrician to a Engineering Technician. I basically hit things with hammers until they work.

  17. Like anything as Craig says , cars do age. Fatigue can set in for certain parts. Some chassis had issues with diffs breaking free . Crazing on bodywork can be expensive to repair , as with any fibre glass cars can. Lots of people can get blown away with power outputs and blingy bits that blinker you away from the important bits like the chassis. Powder coating disintegrates with time and the tin worm weedles its way in there. Alloy panels can hide corrosion between the rails they are riveted too. The list goes on. Dont let it put you off though and if you need assistance with looking at cars, then your first point of call is an area meet to speak to others and get 'on the scene' . Take a pax drive with willing members and maybe rope a member or two in for looking a car over. They are usually easily lead , with food and beer. It would be worth its weight in gold to do this. I have seen 'immaculate' cars for sale and call me fussy, they are not. But everyone has their assumptions and what someone calls immaculate, in their eyes is. I maybe a 'little' fussy though

  20. The news of the sale came as quite a surprise to me and even more so that I was being offered first refusal on it. This was a car which I felt would be well beyond my reach and a project which I could only hope to work on but here was that opportunity. Well you can guess the rest (or if you're on Facebook then you might already have read). Yes this is the story of how I came to become the new owner of Frank Costin's Auto XVIII.
