  1. At last some proper progress pictures. With the chassis unloaded from the trailer the first job was to clean all the powder-coating from inside all the holes with a reamer. I'd had the forethought to leave nuts on all the threaded studs so as to protect the threads and make it easier to clean those. I could then begin the task of assembling everything and the first job was fitting the new rear axle assembly. The pedals went in next. Followed by master cylinders and tachometer. The tacho is the original Krober unit from the Carburol Special so I was keen to re-use it. Whilst it's not within period for a JW4 I wanted to retain it as it's a part of the cars later history, the rubber mounts had all perished but luckily i was able to source some reproduction parts for it from Germany. Making good progress the rear wishbones and uprights were next to go on before the light outside began to fade too much and I was forced to call it a day.

  2. WESTFIELD the best kind of car to own and here is proof. One of the clubs highest mileage touring car next to the winner of the Speed Series car, both on a leisurely Sunday afternoon drive out, what other kind of car do you need to own to fulfill all of your hobbies. Meeting at Matlock were Howard, Martyn and Sue, Andrew, Trevor, Bill, Dave, Nigel and us, making 8 cars in the hot sun with everyone melting it was that warm. The super dooper Vauxhall red top at 240 bhp. We had a train to 'catch', well the camera lens did, so we nipped a couple of miles down the road to watch it arrive. That's what I tell you lot, really I just wanted the cars lined up for a photograph. It's coming, it is still in steam at this point As it approaches the station the steam is turned off and the air is diverted away from the chuff box (I think, please correct me if I got it wrong), resulting in some of the good old fashioned black stuff. For £130 you can spend 1 hour preparing the steam engine and then driving it, just saying Glen, Christmas is coming you know. Nigel crossed the line and went for petrol Next we sampled some lovely autumn sun shining through the bronzed trees to go past the pub, and into the really scenic part of the Peak District. Up there it is a mecca for all kinds of hobbies, walking, climbing, cycling and taking in the views, so it is a slow go. I tried keep us going at a pace that does not frustrate but is slow enough to take in your surroundings and be safe when we come across rogue sheep (2 of them actually) and dog walkers. The loop comes straight back to the pub where lunch was booked for 1pm. We parked at the pub, with it's lovely views over the Hope Valley I was minding my own business, taking a panorama shot, and these little sods just can't resist can they? they are like big kids and have to dive bomb the photo The grey bit in the middle is Trevor, running in front of the lens, and it has also made my camera turn the photo 90 degrees??? Weird, anyway, he is already in the dog house for the Stoneleigh comments on my other thread, so I guess as you can't be any more 'in the dog house' than you already are, you may as well be naughty Mr Naughty Martyn was ready for throttling his car, literary. Shall we say, it has run better. We made our way into the pub and to the carvery We tried to go to Chatsworth Farm Shop Cafe for a posh cake, but it was rather busy and people were queuing, so we went in a homeward direction to the Whitworth Centre and it did not disappoint. We even sat outside it was that warm. Lemon Fudge Cake and Victoria Sponge Cake, we also got a free slice of carrot cake, no argument there. Andrew with cake. With our big belly's full to the brim we headed off home for a lie down, burp, excuse me. So another successful day of driving, eating and viewing some lovely scenery. Not the fastest day as everyone else had decided to do the same, but can you blame them? I am not biased, much, but one last photo, I couldn't resist and he deserves it. Thank you all for coming, I hope to see you in Ashbourne next week and fingers crossed for more of this weather.

  3. After a brief spell of gardening this morning I could then get back to working on the car and todays first task was to fit the steering rack. I hadn't fitted it yesterday as I'd discovered the mounts were threaded UNC rather than UNF like the rest of the bolts. I thought I'd have to order some but then by chance stumbled across a pack of bolts the right size as I was clearing up yesterday. Then the front uprights and wishbones. I'm yet to order the shocks so the steel box section is just a temporary measure to keep everything in place for now. I'd made them when working on the first car and luckily had kept hold of them. Steering wheel and steering column going in. And finally the rear trailing arms. That's about as much as I can do for now as I've run out of UNF bolts in the right size.

  5. you mean Sue, the lady at The Whitworth Centre, she is lovely and Glen loves to torment her, just like the owner of Tagg Lane Dairy, he is consistent, cheeky, but consistent. funny you should say that, I was checking if everyone was ready to set off today and just as I looked around the V8 fired up, my ears answered my question, what a sound.

  6. Oh, and even better than the brilliant scenery of the Peak District, the sound of Andrew's V8, as I followed it. If I ever do scratch the V8 urge, I think that sound has convinced me to abandon the habits of a lifetime, and forget fuel injection, just go for a chuffing big carb and lumpy cam.

  7. Thank you Julie, and indeed everyone, for a great day out. And thank you for showing me some new parts of the Peak District - I'm sure there are plenty more still to be discovered. Great write-up too.

  21. It's not for the blue S2000 westy, that's running fine now, no misfire. I'm building another Westy, the red one. Was going to be Zetec supercharged but changed to Honda power. Need red v8 bonnet and nose cone now, if anybody's got one. Needs to be in good nick mind you.

  27. Self employed so spend most of the time in my 2016 Transporter. 54k miles and just over half way into the lease. Really hate driving this thing. We have a 2017 Abarth 595 that the wife uses for work and nipping to the shops/gym etc. Cant remember the last time i drove it. Only brand new car we have ever bought. Pic from when we picked it up. We ended up with this as i wanted a car as i was tired of using my Van for everything. Started looking at 911's and Granturismo's. Wife got involved and we ended up with what she wanted. And the family car. 2012 ML350. This was the wife's when she did mobile work as she needed lots of space for the all the crap she had to cart about with her. Wife no longer does mobile work so it does the baby duties now. Currently for sale if any one is interested. Hoping to replace it with a Maserati Gran Turismo. The last time i tried this we ended up with the Abarth above so should be interesting.

  28. Im lucky to have secured a spot on the last ever track day 8th December, got it for free for winning one of their sprint competitions Got the confirmation through, the Noise section made me smile (see below) Well no worries about the council shutting them down :D Should be quite a spectacle Noise This is and unsilenced & unrestricted event. Please feel free to be as loud as you want, in fact we encourage you to help us make as much noise as possible for out last track day! We may noise test some vehicles on the day but only in the name of curiosity and amusement.

  29. Hardly exciting but very practical, and very nice to commute in. 320d. 184 bhp 0-60 7.7 topspeed 144. Good points. Swmbo likes it. It drives nice. Red is sporty. Mpg is 55+. Diesel Knock and vibration less. Toys. Good DAB radio(no degree needed to use it). Devalued to under 1/3rd of its new price in 2.5 years and 40k miles making it feel a bargain to me. Bad Expensive run flats! Just paid £250 for a pair! My Old Seat Altea i’d Get a set for that.. should of bought an auto, the manual 6 speed isn’t particularly nice. There is an known issue with the F30 electric racks bmw first said it’s fine. Then it was out of warentee.. but on the last free inclusive service at 60k they did a service update on the rack and now it’s good..

  32. Proper exhaust that for track days too Mine now on its 2nd year annual service. Gearbox, engine and diff oil. Bleed clutch and brakes , topped battery up as low ( daft place with heat to stick a battery behind the rad !!) Changing the gearbox oil from Comma ( silkolene) to Valvoline GL4 has been a revelation for shifting . Also put fully syn Fuchs GL5 in the Mazda diff and it all runs sweeter.
