  4. Never mind angry birds--what about Minnesota town alerts residents over 'tipsy' birds? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-45751886 Police in the northern Minnesota town of Gilbert say they have received reports of birds "flying into windows, cars and acting confused". The intoxicated state of the birds is due to berries fermenting ahead of time due to an earlier than usual frost.

  6. Schroth harnesses. Not cheap but fantastic quality. I've also used these. http://www.primamotorsport.com/prima_motorsport_products/kit_car/kit_car/4kit_car_harness.html As they're made to order you can spec adjuster direction etc. Not as good as the schroths but also not as expensive.

  7. Occasionally I've bought job lots of things to get a specific bit, then sold the remainder on - often breaking it down into individual items, or bits that go together. (Often manage to get all the money back, or better from the original purchase, like that). I usually pack the bits up right after taking the photos for eBay etc. so I write on the box, roughly whats inside. Sending one such parcel, from some chassis building stuff, I was at the Post Office sending it when the girl behind the counter got the giggles. At which point I realised what the note on the corner of the box said: "Gussets and Spreader Plates",

  8. No photos to show (only a drawing) but knowing I was going to be having a day off work today I thought I'd take the opportunity to get the chassis for the Carburol Special booked in at the fabricators for the missing body mounts and a few other ancillary brackets to be welded on. These I'd all had laser cut during my last order and were folded up so an easy job to weld into place. With all this completed by luchtime it was loaded back into the trailer for it's next journey which was to the powdercoaters Due to the surface rust I've gone for the full pre-treatment of shot blasting, zinc priming and then powdercoating so it'll be a couple of week wait now before I get to see the finished result. Then the final assembly will begin

  10. Hi John. I used to live in Hemsworth and we were going to buy a house in Great Houghton so I know it well. The route I take goes from Crofton to Nostell, through Hemsworth and Great Houghton (despite all those horrible speed bumps!), turn off at RSPB Dearne Valley and then follow the smaller roads to Rotherham, past the football ground and end up hitting the M1 just by the Sheffield Parkway. I then come off at J29A (to limit motorway miles) and get to Matlock via Chesterfield. There is a fuel stop the Matlock side of Chesterfield which gives me enough for the run around the Peaks. The route from mine takes 1.5 hours ... I'll be leaving mine at 08:45 so would be in Great Houghton just gone 09:00. I'm not a fast driver and keep to a steady pace (you might find me a bit boring in that respect ) ... which is why I like the Peak District runs as they aren't all about racing to the next destination. My route back from the Travellers Rest would probably be to go via Sheffield, hit the Parkway and follow the same way back home ... although I'm open to suggestions if you want to do something different / longer / more interesting? I've got your PM and will shortly send you my number. Feel free to text/call so we can arrange a suitable time to meet up. If you want to modify the route then let me know ... I'm happy to make it more interesting and take in more of the Northern parts of the Peak District although I suspect as it's the first shake down you want to keep it simple?

  11. @4 WAK we will be leaving Matlock before 11am, getting to Ladybower approx midday (toilet stop on the way as none at Ladybower), take some photos and enjoy the views for a short while. We will be having lunch at The Travellers Rest, Bradwell, S33 9HG, which is only a 10 minute drive from Ladybower, I expect to be there for about 1pm. I have booked a table for 20 people. The Sunday lunch is £8.95 or there is the main menu to choose from too.

  12. ... and remember kids, always adjust the lap belts nice and snug first, then the chest belts. You need the lap belts snug against the hips, and if you like a beer or two, below the gut not on top or above it. I see so many with the lap belts riding high. With the legs out straight driving position of Westfields, in a front impact accident they'd slip forward under the belt and cram into the footwell.

  14. @4 WAK ... I'll be travelling to and from Wakefield on Sunday. Assuming it's dry I'll be travelling to Matlock in the morning and probably leaving the group after dinner so I can get back before the light levels drop. You are more than welcome to join me on any parts of this journey so you have company in case there are any issues. Normally I go the back roads via Hemsworth & Rotherham in the morning to cut out some of the boring motorway. Depending on where the group eats dinner I tend to go back via Sheffield and then Rotherham to again miss the motorway ... but all of that is flexible and I'm more than happy to try different routes.

  20. The answer is obvious. More tax, isn't this the answer to everything? On a related note, just think how annoying it would be if they wasted this money they take from us!

  22. I’ve fitted the ones shown that have a HALO led sidelight dipped and main beam, they are in 5 3/4 bowls and use the standard 3 pin headlight plus with a separate sideliight feed. Sealed LED units Ebay from China in less than 2 weeks and work a treat

  23. Next up was a job I hadn't planned to do but after a chance meeting and a discussion at the Maldon car shown earlier in the year I decided that I'd get one of the seats covered. Back in the 1960's the original race seats were covered in a padded black vinyl which offered a degree of comfort but I'd originally planned to use the plain black shells for my rebuild rather than having them covered. The bare shells offer a bit more room for the larger driver and also being a race car would mean they're easier to dry after any wet weather. I'd already intended to get the steering wheel recovered as the vinyl was worn through and torn in a couple of places, but since I had a spare seat shell I though it'd give them that to try too. The company who did the wheel and seat for me is County Coachtrimmers near Maldon and I have to say what a cracking job they've made of it. The wheel looks like new now, but More so I'm very impressed with how the finished seat has turned out. I gave them one of the old seats as a patten to work to for the stitching and they've matched the original beautifully.
