16 sleeps to go ‘til the run-with-a-difference! Are we going to get some ‘softie south of the border’ folk to show us skirt-wearing heathens how it’s done?! For those who are up for the challenge, here’s a checklist of things to bring… 1. Cheery enthusiasm. 2. Full tank of fuel. 3. Pen. 4. Hydration, it's a long day. … and could also bring… 1. A clip-board - and an extra (bulldog?) clip at the bottom would stop the book flapping, especially if you’re one-up. 2. Half/full hood – the weather can be hit-and-miss. 3. A navigator makes it a bit easier (provided they know their right from left (no, the other left!) FFRREEEEEDDOOMMMMMM!3 points

Here I am, 3 years after being widowed following a horrific road accident in Scotland 05-09-2015, the proud owner of my late husband's hand built Westfield 7 SE. It gives me a lot of pleasure to drive and I shall be out and about meeting people and going to my local group. Having been a biker most of my life it sure brings a smile to my face. Happy days. PS Here are some photos, she has a 1600 ford crossflow engine, bored out to 1700. Brian planned to put a ztech engine in but that was never done. She had a Ford Escort donor car and very little money was spent at the time (two small kids and a nagging wife!). I might upgrade a few things... As you can see I am possibly not the most conventional owner, if there even is such a thing. My two dogs love it. Currently, following the wipe out of my Volvo by a drunk driver. The Wez is my only car - plus a motor home. I am just back from a three month road trip of Europe to get over the death of Brian. So I have two vehicles, one extreme to the other!2 points

Just like to say hi, my new (second hand) westfield arrived today, could not be happier. The usually kit car issues, cycle bracket breaks, drive back home to weld it all back together and then straight back out again.. oh I have missed it. If anyone is around the Stafford area, I don't seem to see many westfield's in the area, please get in touch.1 point

I have recently bought another Westfield hopefully I will have more luck with this one ! My last car caught fire so the car I have bought this time has a plumbed in fire extinguisher, given that I already had a freshly rebuilt nice specked Crossflow engine spare in the garage I thought it would be rude to buy anything other than a Crossflow engine car. So my membership has been renewed. My new car comes with a trailer so once I have picked it up if anyone needs the use of a trailer in the North West please give me a shout ( you are also welcome to store it for me ! )1 point

If you remove the rear wheel and check the brakes its a good bet they are the same manufacturer as the axle. Not 100% as its a locost and built to the owners ideas but Ford are a good bet. Remove a brake shoe and find a part number and google. Suspect owning it will be a voyage of discovery of the ingenuity of the builder. As mentioned earlier I would join the locost forum too as there many even have been some discussion of your car (I saw it on ebay from recommended searches) and the original builder may even have posted on there with questions?1 point

As Chris said, Locost was a name coined by Ron Champion for the cars built by many 7 fans across the UK and the US too i believe. The one i built ended up in Germany! I managed to keep an age related plate on mine, but it was registered as a Locost on the V5. The car passed the SVA as it was called then first time!1 point

Gary are those brackets you've fixed the harness bar to structural? They only look to be spot welded in place? I'd also recommend against having the bolted connection in tension due to the risk of the bolts pulling out in a hard front impact or if shell deforms in a crash. They'd be much better if you could mount them in shear.1 point

Just a heads up Gary (and anybody else thinking of going) - Cars and Coffee meet in Inverness has changed venue. It's now at Rollerbowl on Culduthel Road, next to Inverness Royal Academy. I don't know why it's changed suddenly, but I suspect it may have something to do with the idiots in other cars racing away from the V8 Cafe last month, and I think the cafe owner was distinctly unimpressed by them. We were very sedate and responsible by comparison. I don't think I can make it on Sunday anyway, as I may have to take my daughter to Clachtoll, but we'll see how we go. The plan is very fluid at the moment. There's also the Historic Wheels event on at Brodie Castle, near Forres, that you might be interested in on Sunday afternoon.1 point

5 years of driving my Westfield and it all just gets better and better, just when you think it can't, it does. All you lovely people just make my day. Meeting at The Wheatsheaf and pictured here are, in no particular order, but since Ian has taken the most stick today he can go first:- Ian, Dave and Jon, Jonathon, Andy and Ann, Trevor, Nigel and Lee, Ali and Gail, Richard and Liz, the owner of my car, Glen and his chauffeur, me.That made 9 cars and 15 people, no pressure then. Luckily the roads we were travelling on were quiet and the places we stopped at could easily accommodate us, so all was well. Trevor kindly blocked the road so we all left the pub in convoy and we got a clear run up the 13 bends, that warmed up the R1R's. We momentarily slowed for a view of the Dragon's Back, a peak in the shape of a stegosaurus, that's right isn't it Ian . Crikey, next we got a clear run up Crowdecote and even I went a bit too fast, so now I know the limit of the R1R's. NOTE - these are tight, twisty, hilly roads in a National Speed Limit area and no speed limits are exceeded. Glen was grinning away, not at the thrill of the ride, but at my face and my massive grin. To cool off we had a short break at Tagg Lane Dairy Ann and I had the Jaffa Cake flavour ice cream, Glen had blackcurrant and licorice, others had lotus biscuit, coconut or cookies and cream. Some people had 2 flavours in one cone, not naming anyone here!!! Rich and Liz left us here to go and meet the real Baby Bio, their first Grandchild, what a magical time it is for them and they exuded delight. The rest of us went in search of the Elton Essesss It was a reasonable run up the Essess and that nicely landed us at The Whitworth Centre in Darley Dale, just in time for lunch and cake. Lunch Cake - Lemon Fudge Cake and Bakewell Tart mmmmmmmmmmmmm Don't come between Ali and his cake And well done to his wife, Gail, for pinching Glen's flake right from under his nose and for battering him when he tormented her. The Hairy Westfielders bought their legs with them More rubbish parking at The Whitworth Centre, no pretty pics of the cars today. Thank you everyone for a truly brilliant day. Next Saturday is the breakfast meet at Curborough, followed by lunch at the Okeover Arms in Ashbourne. Some more pictures from The Wheatsheaf below. Richard and Liz, Andy and Ann Trevor with his fingers in his ears as I try and tell him the route. 'I am following you, Julie, why do I need to know the route?' he says. Ali and Gail Jonathon in his Vauxhall engined car, that is one mean MF car, sounded good and was fast, much faster than mine, it was right there on the button. Look forward to seeing you all again on the next trip out. Missing you.....already.1 point

Gary. If you intend to use it in the road at all i would add back one Sun visor and the interior light for those dark starts on your way to autumnal track days and home again in the setting sun Of course if you can't bring yourself to add that weight back......... It's your choice. I think I need another tintop track car, you're inspiring me.1 point

I remembered that I had not stripped the interior trim off from the tailgate, so did that tonight which gained me another 1.6kg. Running total now 44.85kg1 point
