  2. Ah this should see the pace of build imorove a bit. I finally got around to ordering all the various brackets and parts I need for both cars from the laser cutters. Whilst I was at it I also ordered a few spares so I now have enough bits to also build two more chassis should I feel the urge this is about half of the order, i ran out of room for it all on the lounge floor !

  3. Finally got to trial fit the zetec /type 9 combo today! Now on the look out for an offside engine mount, but haven't ruled out making my own yet. It's only a trial fit as I needed to check whether the flywheel /clutch from the original mondeo would fit and actually work in position with the cable fitted on the type 9. Lo and behold it would all seem tickety boo! Need to remove and refit new flywheel bolts and give the whole lot a bl**** good clean now!

  4. Thanks again for the replies. I’ve been doing a bit research and it seems the Civic engine will fit but will be a big job. By the time you adapt everything to fit then you might as well buy an S2000 engine which has more power as standard. It’s asp by all accounts a shorter engine so should give increased room in the engine bay and keep the centre of gravity down. As for the spare wheel then I’ll just see what happens with a car. If it has one then I’ll deal with it if it’s the right car. The more I’m looking around the more I’m drawn towards a new one with a duratec. Everything will be brand new and I can design it how I like.

  6. As they were given to me for me to build my kit I’d like to pass these on to another member who may find them of use. A set of 4x shock absorbers I got from @Trevturtle for a widetrack setup. Set of 15” wheels and tyres I got from @Quinten Uijldert - Northants AO Include wheel nuts. Both are free to a club member on the understanding that when you are finished with them that you also pass them on. Would prefer collection from Sutton Coldfield.

  7. I bought myself a new toy on Friday. Something I’ve always wanted and really pleased with it now I’ve finally got one. I had a 130i before this which at 260bhp I thought was pretty quick but this is in another world to anything I’ve ever been in. Mike

  8. Hi, So after introducing myself here when first signing up, I'm very pleased to say I've formally joined 'ownership status' as of Saturday evening with the delivery of my lovely SE! It was a bit of a mad dash to get the garage ready as I'd sort of planned for it to be coming over on the Sunday (and had planned a run to the tip in the tin top beforehand to make room), but managed to get things sorted enough for the car to go straight in (and thankfully it fits!). BEFORE... AFTER... I took her out for a first short run on Sunday and all I can say is 'wow'. It's been a while since I've driven one of these types of cars and I'd forgotten how raw, visceral and utterly compelling they are to pilot around the countryside. I definitely need to get a few more runs under my belt to get used to it, primarily things like driving position (I'm a sleight, short guy) and getting used to the visibility on roads (I've previously only driven 7-style cars on track/autotest conditions - a busy town was suddenly a different kettle of fish) and also the general feel and character of the car braking/shifting/engine sounds. Love it already though! The family are also quite keen. My wife - although still a bit hesitant - thinks its a beauty. One initial issue is I left the internal door open for a bit and the ground floor of the whole house smelt of warm oil for an hour or so which she wasn't too keen on, need to work on a solution to that. However my young son saw it Sunday morning properly and proudly announced "Daddy's new toy!" before getting settled into his future seat. Anyway, that's enough of a rambled reintroduction. All I'll say is I'm very happy to now be a fellow owner! Just a couple of Stoneleigh questions/queries from a newbie... I'm not going to be bringing the Westfield as I think the long distance round trip is an ambitious shake down for a car I barely know, however I'll be coming down (probably on the Sunday) in my tin top. As a new member of WSCC is it best just to find the stand and find someone to say 'hi' to, or should I be seeking out someone specific out on the day? I'd really like to have a look at/sit in some other Westfields to gather up ideas for mine (and try out some wet weather options, etc...). Is that likely to be possible or do people tend to leave their cars and wander off for the day? I've already got a short (read: long) list of bits and pieces I'm looking for at the show but not sure how much cash to bring along with me. Do trade stands take cards on the day? Are there any facilities to get money out there if needs be or do I need to come prepared? Is it worth digging out the old cheque book? Thanks, see you there!

  11. Due to the lack of time I just ordered replacement LED bulb's the same as I was using last year but I put them in my defender to help with the light output .At least I know the light output is good and they fit straight in

  13. Thanks. Getting out mid-week evenings are tricky at the moment (especially getting over that far) with work and my lad but I'll certainly try and get over sometime to "bring the car home" for a run

  14. I can't speak for that one in particular, but in general, the Supercharged S2000 is an animal when pushed hard. Great combination, but massive, massive power for a seven type car. It's difficult without knowing you/your son/son in law and your relevant experience. Bear in mind Westfields as standard have no form of electronic traction control or drivers aids, and are a lightweight rear-drive car that is traction limited. in supercharged form, the S2000 sits between 300 and around 340 bhp, depending on mapping, intercooler, exhaust etc. A lot happens very quickly at those sort of figures in these cars.

  16. If it helps, they just need 30mm or so trimming from the leading edge to fit a Narrow neatly as the tub is a touch shorter. They could be mounted un-trimmed, however, but would overlap a bit more than usual at the scuttle.

  18. Welcome Andy! Nice looking motor! It's our Cheshire meet this Thu- if you fancy a run over: 1. There's will be lots of folk in WSCC T- Shirts, you should find us all equally welcoming! 2. This will be possible as many members allow their car to be sat in etc. on the stand, again, just ask ! 3. Most stands take card and there may even be a cash machine on site? Hope to see you. I'll be there in 'Bagpuss' on Sun and Mon.

  20. I would like to add my thanks to Geoffrey for once again organizing a terrific day out at the Elvington Air Museum, thanks also to the members that took and posted images for all to enjoy! Despite the cold breeze, a top Westfield day out.

  21. Decided on a few mods to my dash. Replaced the 9 nylocs and bolts with rivnuts to make removing and refitting easier. Swapped the positions of the fuel and oil pressure gauges because when the half tonneau is on, the left hand gauge is obscured and I’d rather run out of petrol than oil. Also swapped the washer and light switches so that wash and wipe are next to each other. Fitted a warning buzzer to the indicators, lowered the steering column by about 10mm. Fitted an oil pressure warning light where the main beam warning was and moved the latter to the left. Fitted the ecu on a drop down tray, held by tywraps, above the passenger footwell. Previously 15mm had been taken off the bottom edge of the dash to improve knee clearance. Finally tidied up the wiring with a few dozen tywraps. Surprisingly, everything works. :-)

  23. A little more progress earlier today, I completed a couple of the trailing arm forks and trial fitted them to the rear uprights. They just need a coat of paint and then they're finished.
