  2. What can I say, from an abandoned run yesterday to 9 cars at the start with 2 more joining us at Sewerby tonight. I nearly missed it with a snapped clutch cable an hour before I was due to set off, but a 15 minute repair got me going. All 9 stayed together all the way there and even managed to get over the speed bump into the car park eventually, I get stuck but climbed out and pushedthe car over, every one else drove carefully. Took the scenic route along the cliff top path which the chef at the pub assured us it was OK to do, not our fault officer, he made us do it . Alsohad a new member joining us, Des and Debs, in their car they picked up this morning, hope it's not put you off. I'll sort out some photos tomorrow, feel free to put any on anybody, and thanks for coming, same time next year?

  6. Well new car in the drive today. Told the dealers, if they washed it or drilled the plates on, they wouldnt be selling it to me . So, I picked up a dirty car and spent the day cleaning, claying and waxing it. Ordered some Gtechniq sealant which didnt appear, so will use wax for the next couple of months now. In relation to GAP, the dealer said it is back to invoice cost, so went to ALA and for 2 years cover for PCP was £152 , for 3 years was £155 ! . Plan is to keep the car after the 2 years so paid for that. Happy days and £250 less than the dealer.

  9. Evening all, So after a little hunting I have found my new toy - which is an ex members car from a few years ago. Purchased from Toybox I'm hoping to collect next week and start doing a few track days as I'm not finding the time to get out in my Classic Race Mini over the last few years. Having previously owned a few quick cars - Lotus Elise, Aston Martin V8 Vantage, Audi R8 V10 and the most recent was a BMW M4 I'm looking forward to having something more track focused. I'm sure a few of you will know the car. Andy

  10. I did look at the car. The repair looked like it had been done ok but was quite easy to spot still. i brought another car in the end and have put up a couple of pictures in another tread

  11. I have been busy tidying up the car. Tonight I finished correcting and polishing the paintwork. It's my first time using a DA polishing machine and I am very pleased with the results Not bad bad for a 16 year old car now!

  13. Ford or Lucas are usually labelled quite prominently somewhere on the outer casing of the dizzy itself. May need to clean it up a bit to find it and use a mirror to see it if it's obscured. Looking at the photo of the old points again, wow are those toasted! Have you got an old set you can put back in and try before splashing out any funds, just to confirm the diagnosis? Can't tell but the contacts inside the dizzy cap might need cleaning with an emery board as well, check the rotor arm as well. As MotCO rightly says, static timing is critical. Make sure you set the points gap with the block on one of the four high spots on the dizzy cam or it will definitely not work. I'd start with his suggestion of 0.016 first.

  16. Shakedown run at 4pm. Quick blat of 5miles. 1mile from home, battery warning lamp comes on. Fanbelt burst / missing when I get home ..... Bummer. Visit to Halfors ... Don't stock fan belts anymore, can get one for next day .... Visit Smaller car shop Overdrive in Airdrie, same response, can get it next day. Need belt today as run to Applecross is first thing tomorrow morning. Guy at Overdrive then phones his supplier, ask for urgent delivery of belt. Supplier agrees and after 30mins, belt arrives at Overdrive shop. 10 out of 10 for customer support ... Shop stayed open extra 30 mins waiting for belt Then follows 3 hours to get belt on. Belt I purchased is marginally to small and won't go over the pulley rims. Had to unbolt the alternator and add the belt then bolt the alternator bracket back up again. 9pm back together ... Run it for 10 mins to get up to temp. looking good ..... Roll on the weekend run .....

  17. According to Javelin, it has only shortened the circuit by about 250 metres and the re-route is down to deterioration of the surface and the fact that the runway is being used again by planes. No change to the price and 15 days to transfer to another day, if we wanted to.
