  1. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-38795998 This isn't a thread on the rights or wrongs of Trump (we already have a cracking thread for that), this is more a whinge at the button clicking, social media masses (mainly those under the age of 25) and those who report on the activities of the same. No, a million people have not signed a petition... Signing a petition requires some effort, you have to stand up, hold a pen and remember your name and where you live. A million people have gotten sufficiently motivated to click a button on a tablet, smart phone or PC... Not the same thing... Especially if some vacuous celebrity twitters a link to the petition website to their million followers on FaceSpace Just like that little referendum we had last year, again no comment on the rights or wrongs of the results, but from listening to the interpretation of the results it seems most young people wanted to stay in and most grumpy old gits wanted out. And whilst the young ones stayed at home because it was raining and instead were squeaking their ethereal twitters of protest onto the Wibbly, Wobbly Web, the grumpy old sods got up, got out and voted. And that's probably why the result went the way it did. The moral for the youths of the day is, get off your bean bag and physically register your intent, those are the only opinions who count... And Lord help us if we ever go to web based voting..!

  2. Or not? As much as I loathe the buffoon, I actually admire the fact he's sticking to his pledges and looking after his country. Telling huge corporations to build in the US using US made materials or we'll tax you to the hilt. Can you imagine our nimby country doing that? It'd take a committee, then a vote, then an inquiry... We can't even get a runway built at our capitals Airport that is 20 years overdue!! I'd just like to add I'm not endorsing the views on race and immigration! I just think it's sort of refreshing that a sort of politician is sticking to his pledges. Or do I need a stiff drink and a word with myself?

  3. The North West Kit Car Owners Group are organising a run out on Sunday 12th Feb. Their lunch stop is at the Oil Can Cafe at 1.30pm so we are going to meet them there and if anyone wants to join us (and them) please shout up. If you want to go with them from the start they are meeting at Sainsbury's, Ashton-under-Lyne at 10.15am and taking a route up to Hebden Bridge and back down before getting to the Oil Can Cafe. POSTPONED TO THE FOLLOWING SUNDAY

  5. I'm lucky to have a reasonable sized garage free from my missus crap. The car lives in there along with my tools etc. Garden stuff is in there too, but this will all be going in the new shed when it gets delivered this week (and I've erected it, if anyone wants to help, let me know). Ive got a rapidly diminishing stock of wood on one side and a pile of pallets on the other that aren't a permanent feature just there until I cut them up. Ive got racking across the back wall and utilise the roof space where I can for ladders and some bulkier car spares. It's a mess though and I can never find anything I need - how do you guys decide what old bits are worth keeping and what to throw away? How do you organise them? What about all the miscellaneous screws bolts nuts clips etc etc etc?

  6. Whoops, not sure what happened to this months calendar entry, it seems to have disappeared! I've just re-added it, for anyone confused, yes, there is a Meet this week, usual time and place, Thursday, 7.30 or so, at the Whipping Stocks, near Knutsford. See you there!

  7. That is interesting Jeff. I can't help but see it much differently. I have read from numerous sources that many mental health experts all seem to think that he has NPD so it is hardly one "expert" that is saying this. Even my neighbor who is a psychiatrist openly says that no one can be professionally diagnosed via the internet but at the same time says the chances that he doesn't have NPD or slim to none. If you read the manual that describes the disorder it so plainly fits....as if it was written about him. But the chance that there will ever be a full professional diagnosis is small. most of those with NPD will not submit to being tested for obvious reasons and trump won't release his taxes let alone sit on the big leather chair. Your comment about the black lives matter protest is interesting also. That was widely reported here and debunked but most professional reporters. There was a protest that blocked on street....one street far enough away that it would only be a minor inconvenience to those wanting to get there. There is no evidence of there being block streets and gridlock even though the trump administration reported it. They need to find reasons for it being smaller and blaming a small portion of a minority is an effective way to go. I agree with you that trump is not boring.....train wrecks seldom are. Only time will tell but my money is on the fact that this will get much more "interesting" and dangerous as time goes on. He is a truly dangerous man who is eliminating any dissenting voices of experience and surrounding himself with advisers that make him look like a peace-nick. dave

  9. I take it the cable is coming from the bottom of the photo? If so the outer sheath should be inserted into the ribbed portion of the adjuster, as it is at the moment the adjuster isn't an adjuster it's just an inner cable guide and yes there should be some kind of cable clamp. It looks a bit cobbled together from bits n bobs to me, nothing like mine, but then again it might be correct that way. Ian

  10. Looks fine to me. I adopt the 'never put anything away' approach. If I want a tool, I just have to remember the last job it was used on and it will be in that area. If not, well it's obviously someone else's fault.

  11. I am attempting to become more organized by using clear plastic storage bins of various sizes to group things together by logical type (e.g. Westfield Electrical, Painting Supplies, Lawnmower Parts). I'm fortunate to have a very large garage, but the downside to space is the slippery slope to becoming a hoarder. Sometimes I'm not sure if it's more frustrating when I can't find something, or coming across an item and asking myself "what the heck is this? It certainly looks important, but..." Hopefully labelled plastic bins will help. If you aren't familiar with the garagejournal.com, it's well worth a visit to their forum. Many great ideas and threads on organization that might provide inspiration for your space. -John

  12. Boom... I have just been so shot out of the sky, nicely done Sir. In fact until Scott took the address list off me and raised the court restraining order against me, I would have personally visited you all and sat in your kitchens until you pretended to agree with me... And in my defense, there was typing involved (one step up from clicking) and I had to look up how to spell "ethereal" and "vacuous"

  14. Thanks for all the replies. And there are two names that consistently bubbled up to the top so... I've just checked and the local white goods folk stock both Miele and Siemens. So I am very tempted to go for a Miele w/mc and a Siemens FF. The collectaholic in me always tends to go for items from the same manufacturer so I have a 'set'. No reason to do that here. And in reply to Scott's Q on why I have drifted away from Bosch, ironically its a reflection on their power tools. I always used to view the green tools as decent enough and the blues (which I buy) as real top banana stuff. Recently the quality of the green stuff has gotten (IMHO) so bad that I wouldn't given them away in a cracker. Blue stuff is still top notch. So I'm worried that a corporation that is prepared to let some of its quality drop away to the point where it is badge placement and no more, can't really be trusted (yes I know I still trust the blue stuff, but I never claimed I was logical or consistent)

  15. My wife and I now look forward to waking up each morning to see what wondrous news comes from our cousins across the pond. So much so we've just installed a TEOPA (Trump Executive Order Panic Alarm). It's also been hard coded to activate should he issue any Tweet that mentions the name Kim Jong-un (of course at the rate we're going, this post may be way out of date by the time you read it or the server has melted under the extreme radiation heat ) edited: I still can't decide whether to laugh or cry though - it's certainly going to be a posterior clenching time for politicians in the UK and Europe as well as those around the rest of the world.

  16. And yet Obama banned Iranians from entering the US for 6 months and nothing was said. Also if your are an Israeli or have a stamp to show you have been there, there are 16 countries which you are banned from entering and have been for years. The world is crazy at present with everything being whipped up out of all proportion. I would bet half of those who have put their names to that petition have done it because some celebrity has endorsed it and it is a popular band wagon to jump on. The US is a democracy, they voted Trump in and those protesting are showing a contempt for the very thing they say they uphold. He told them what he would do and so far has done everything he said he would. If they depose him by any of these actions they will have a civil war there as so many who voted for him will see he was right and Washington and the liberal elite hold them in contempt.

  17. Thanks James. Im sure it'll really kick off when the season gets going but the initial response has been great. The idea is to raise the profile of the Speed Series and sprinting/hillclimbing in general which hopefully we are doing! Can I ask that if any of you guys haven't liked the page yet, take a look and indeed invite your friends to like it too! Thank you Rich

  19. What to throw away you ask. Answer- What ever you throw away today, you'll need it somewhere down the line. What ever you keep, it'll never get used again and sit there in your garage wishing you dumped it.

  21. That is a lot of information, but the facts are he made no secret of cutting back on government bureaucracy and money being wasted. He was voted in under their system and won fair and square. All the guff about the popular vote, is in response the HRC's team trying to undermine his win by saying he won, but we won more. There are many in the UK who would say why do we give funds to the arts, like the London Opera House, whilst taking old peoples homes to pay for care. Why fund people who can run a bit fast but not those who cannot walk at all having lost limbs in illegal wars. We may find his views on certain things abhorrent but others I agree with. I don't really have too much concern about getting information out of ISIS for example, if it works and saves lives then do it. Climate change, they say the science is proved, yet anyone who disagreed and gave a differing view were silenced and funding cut and the various government departments were allowed to spend vast money on promoting the approved view. He said he would stop that he has done so. So far, like him or not, he said he would do things and he has kept his word to the electorate who he is responsible to. Lets take the wall as an example. In 2006 Clinton signed the secure fence act to extend the existing border fence by an additional 700 miles. He was given a standing ovation by congress, the press lauded him, Trump said the same and was a racist!! Yes he has flaws, but he is not stupid and what is 100% clear to people is that he has the US and US people as his first concern. If he starts to make low paid, low skilled, people better off they will like him. He has surrounded himself with a good team and it will be interesting to see how he gets on.

  22. Can't say warm to him as a person but I do like the fact that he speaks his mind and actually speaks for a lot of Americans who like a lot of Brits are fed up with our Political Elite almost all seem to want to line their own pockets, talk a great talk and do NOTHING. I do like that he is actually seeming to get things done and be decisive, love her or hate her Maggie did get things done and any leader needs to do that, otherwise their just watching the clock till snout in the trough time.
