Mark (smokey mow) Posted August 15, 2011 Author Posted August 15, 2011 Things seem to be going a lot easier than I was expecting 10 minutes of cutting and I had the body in two pieces I've clipped one side on for the moment and the fit actually looks pretty good. I'm not sure at the moment if the wheels are quite in the right position in the arch, as I don't have any arches for it to check properly but by quick visual comparison to the other car and it doesn't look too bad although I think the wheel may be sitting slightly too far back? Happy days They'll be a bit needing to be cut off the front though Quote
Captain Colonial Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 Looking good there sir, watching with interest, well done! Quote

Mark (smokey mow) Posted September 4, 2011 Author Posted September 4, 2011 A quick update since I've been a bit quiet for the last few weeks. Progress on the car has been slow since the paid work has been taking priority, but things have been moving forward with the drawings. Lot's of parts have been arriving through the mail which has allowed me to do a lot more drawing and planning toward the final build. The main area I've been working on is the pedal box. I wasn't happy with the amount of welding that would need to be done in a very confined space, so I've redesigned the pedal box as a removable bolt in part. It also gives more flexability in the future too for conversion to a bias bar set-up or cable clutch etc as it'll be a simple swap rather than entailling a whole load of welding. I'm still finalising the drawings, and getting the pedal position where I want them before I send off the CAD files to get the parts laser cut but this is what it looks like so far. Quote

There's a lot of drawing and not much welding at the moment but in theory all the planning should ensure an easier build and will mean that they'll be no suprises of parts not fitting as they were intended. Mark (smokey mow) Posted September 4, 2011 Author Posted September 4, 2011 Less of the CAD drawings and more of the hammer and chisel Mark--------------------------or get a job designing at Westfield. Hammer and chisel is the day job now after 9 years as a Design Engineer and a degree from doing this. But, as they say, never say never I would be curious to know what system Westfield use for the design and stress analysis of their cars though. I know there's several kit car companies that are using SolidWorks. Shame I don't still have access to any CFD, otherwise I could model the aerodynamics and airflow too Quote
