Mark (smokey mow)
One question Mark - Who's going to get their head and torch down there to weld it? The way its coming along, you'll be looking for a new project before long. Who's says I'm not already looking for the next project I need something to do now I've run out of pictures to take for the SKCC photo comp
Mark (smokey mow)
At the moment I've given up thinking about why I have an odd ball diff instead I have been thinking ahead to the bodywork and my varous options. I've been watching a narrow tub on ebay, but it's 5 hours drive away and the seller hasn't been forthcomming with pictures so I'm not really willing to take the risk for something unknown that's so far away. It's got me thinking instead about the possiblity of fitting a wide tub, which then also gives me an option of detachable arches. Since they change hands for next to nothing I'm tempted to give it a go just for the hell of it there's nothing to loose While I ponder that idea I've also been doing a bit more work on the 3D CAD model. I've pretty much finished the chassis now and have made a start on the steering assembly to try and get the wheel placement right. For safety reasons and beacuase of parts availability I'm fitting a colapsible steering column, again from an MX5 By the time I'm finished I'll have built this car at least twice. Once on the computer and then a second time for real
BigRuss
I can't wait to see how you get on with fitting a wide tub. You should definitely give it a go. (With lots of pictures and measurements.) How different is the FW rear bodywork?

(With lots of pictures and measurements.) How different is the FW rear bodywork? If it can be done with a ZK body then I see no reason why it wouldn't be possible with an FW rear too. Ignoring for a moment the fettling/fitting issues that they'd be with both tub styles the only other issue I forsee with the FW is that the number plate recess would be narrowed by quite a lot when the body is cut and rejoined, probably to the extent that a number plate wouldn't fit within it. John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison
First minor problem Up until this morning I was under the impression that the ford english diff was available with 3 different pinion flange diameters and two different pcd's for the prop fixings to them. 87 and 92mm diameter flanges with a 70mm PCD and a 109mm diameter flange with 90mm pcd. Looks like I have something very odd as mine is 92mm diameter but with a 76.5mm pcd (3") I've searched google to see if it's something special but that's given no results It doesn't worry me too much other than it may create problems for getting the propshaft made. I was told by the previous owner that it's a It's a 3.9 ratio 10/39 cortina diff. The flange you need is the 3 and 3/8" dia flange from an Anglia

Alternatively should I just sell the diff on eBay and buy one with the correct size flange
Mark (smokey mow)
As it looks like fitting a wide tub onto a narrow is indeed possible, I've cleared some room in Flat Eric's garage for him and taken this off his hands. It's rough and falling appart, much like the rest of the car at the moment so should be perfect for cutting up as an experiment. Garry Bunn has kindly sent me a few pointers and photos from when he modified one for his car, so we'll see how it goes
Captain Colonial
Bear in mind that Westfield won't honour your warranty if you compromise the structural integrity of your car by removing the wooden cross struts.
