Just been speaking to a mate of mine who works for one of the bike race teams. Apparently even in bike circles, racing at Ollies is only for those who find the TT a bit on the safe side...

Did anyone see the FRS Trike go up the hill? looking at the results he was less than a second slower than Tell, with only three wheels and his girlfriend perched on the back...

Why can't Ollies install some proper safety barriers or reticel - it won't stop "incidents" and damaged cars ............ but all those flying fence posts and railings ain't good

Unless there are some alterations to protect us from the fence rails I will think twice about going there again

Ollies is certainly a challenging venue and one that appeals to many for various reasons ............. however those railings do seem to raise the risk level ........... are there known "hot-spots" where investment could be made in proper barriers or reticel ................. this is often high on MSA agenda when inspecting venues  ???  ???  ???

All hillclimbs are dangerous. Take Shelsley, Prescott and Loton as examples. All claim victims on a regular basis for some reason or another. Ollies is no different

I think we would all agree John. I reckon the main thread of this topic is that the fence posts and rails are meant to be a safety feature, but in reality are more of a danger. Both Gavin and Uncle Mick have been lucky not to have been "skewered"

Fully agree John .......... in fact all venues are dangerous to a greater / lesser degree............please re-read the thread ............ don't think anyone is saying Ollies is anymore dangerous than anywhere else..........

As Tommo clearly notes

All other circuits have proper barriers and/or Reticel ........... they don't stop accidents or damage ................. but to use fence posts particularly in known "incident areas" is perhaps not condusive to optimum safety      ;)
